You are a good person, Carole, for taking care of your Mom and the others. Not everyone can or will do it because it takes an incredible amount of time, work and sacrifice. Kudos to you for being so unselfish!

I've started lifting weights again. In the winter, I swim alot and don't do the lifting as often as I do in the summer but I miss doing the routines and after a while my back will begin to bother me if I don't keep it strong. I'm trying to get back to the elliptical more too but it has gotten boring and I get on it but don't do more than 10 minutes anymore.

Let me know how your almond cake turns out. Have you ever eaten Marizpan? It's a candy made from almond paste and I used to love it. Two days after I went back on Atkins over a year ago, one of my daughters gave me a box of 6 dozen but I didn't even taste one! Instead I gave them all away. Maybe your cake will taste like them so let me know.

I've never heard of coconut flour but I bet it would make a great cake. I love the Atkins Chocolate Coconut bars but I can't eat them because they upset my whole system.

I have no idea what to make for supper tonight. Sometimes I get so sick of having to cook 3 meals a day that I just don't even want to think about it anymore! My dh is retired and wants his 3 squares a day so I'm always either cooking or thinking about cooking. That's why it's so nice when our SIL cooks on weekends.

Well, I'm off to wash the bedroom windows.

the almond "cake" turned out to be more of a bread than a cake. Of course, with 6 eggs it's pretty eggy tasting but I found this morning cut into slices (it made 12 slices) and fried in a pan with butter and cinnamon and topped with a little deVinci maple sugar free syrup F R E N C H T O A S T -- OMG it was so good!! you don't notice the eggy taste as much because french toast IS eggs tasting. I had 2 slices yesterday for breakfast and dipped it into my eggs but this morning's breakfast was so much better!!

Here is the link for the recipe Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes but in place of the coconut flour I used almond flour. The flour really had no flavor - I thought since it was crushed almonds it would taste like almonds, but it doesn't. I WILL make this again!

I figure the difference between almond and coconut is minimal so I used her totals and each slice was 2 carbs each. It was wonderful!!

well I know I posted my final total for the 6WEC but I can't find it on the board now....and jimmie is showing I had 2 slug days this time...I can't remember not doing my exercises but I didn't write them down so I get a slug award.

Anyway -- 6 pounds and 6-3/8 inches lost this time. That's good for me.

last night I decided to do more ab work because what I was doing just wasn't showing any results. I also added 25 leg lifts for each leg to tighten up my saggy skin around the upper thigh before they just decided to sag forever.

I did the ab work last night and again this afternoon -- I am really feeling it now and I'm hoping this helps get rid of a few more inches and tones my midsection. My stomach was always hard as a rock but since I've been loosing weight my stomach is slightly spongy so I want to do more to tone it up. I realize the skin has been stretched so long it will probably never look real good but as long as I do as much as I can to tone it up as much as possible it will be ok with me.

I talked to Sunny the other night and she is following Protein Power now - she says it's less restrictive for her and she is happier on it. That's great. I wish her well. I went to the Stallbusters forum today - there is no one there now. Sad because it was a fun place to be when we first started them.

I'm sorry to hear that you got slugged in the 6WEC, Carole! And after that impressive loss too. I haven't checked the results but you might have won a ribbon otherwise. I will have to see who did win.

How is Sunny doing on the new diet? Has she managed to get past her stall yet?

You said that you weren't seeing results from your abs workout and it made remember that I didn't either the first few months until I realized that you're supposed to only do them every other day so they can rest and grow in between exercises. Now I can't see them of course but I sure can feel them! I was just tearing them down and not allowing them time to recover.

Hi Nyna -- I talked to Sunny last night and she has lost a pound so she is very happy. She said Atkins was too restrictive for her and she needed bread in her daily life. I think some of it had to do with DH not being on plan with her. She ordered some low-carb pita bread from Netrition the other night while we were talking. Personally all that stuff doesn't sound good to me but if she's ok eating it that's great.

I know about resting my abs in between days...at first I didn't believe it but now I do! I did my "usual" ab work and a half hour HipHop Abs workout DVD last night....can you imagine how funny I must look doing that thing....I try my best to keep up and I don't stop until the 30 minutes is up so for that I am proud but I'm about as far away from the "HipHop" crowd as you can get! I liked the fact that you weren't on the floor doing nothing but crunches for a half hour with this set of video's. It is fun and the instructor does keep you doing and gets you into a sweat - it really doesn't seem like a half hour when you are done.

Yesterday (being June 1) I decided to write down where the odometer on my stationary bike is so I can figure out how many miles a month I ride -- it was at 700 when I started....we'll see where it is at the end of the month. Honestly I really enjoy the time on the bike - it is the only time during the day I have to myself (unless I do any of the other exercises in my bedroom)....it's about 2 hours that it is peaceful for me. When I get done I KNOW I've had a great workout and except for the fact that my rearend is asleep I keep real well!

Today is "dr. day" -- we go to the Internist and I go to my Endocrinologist today -- I can't wait to see what my A1C reading is this time...if nothing else I would love to have my meds decreased but if she doesn't think it's time I'll wait and see what she has to say in 6 months when I go back and have lost more weight. I have had a few low reading days recently so I'm hoping that helps her decide I need less medicine during the day at least.

I worked so hard yesterday -- today is going to be pretty much a day off since we'll be gone about 4 - 5 hours with the doctor appointments. Yesterday I planted 4 Japanese Maples and a holly bush in the back yard, re-potted 2 Boston Ferns on the front porch. While I was doing a load of laundry I rode my 25 miles, made dinner then after the dishes were in the dishwasher heard the neighbor mowing so I went out and mowed when he was done....If I don't mow the same time he does our lawn looks horrible - the neighbor on the other side had mowed earlier in the day so I needed to but just hadn't gotten around to it...LOL... then I came in a around 8:30 did the HipHop Ab video. When I got in bed last night I slept very well but since I was so thirsty all day I was up several times during the night.....that's ok -- that means I'm getting enough water!!!

Need to get cleaned up and ready to leave...only have a little over an hour before we need to be in the car -- I don't need that much time to get ready but if I don't start pretty soon I'll be rushing at the last minute.

              Have a great Atkins day!!
              Carole

                Hi Carole.

I really hope your dr. decreased your meds for you. That would be proof positive that Atkins works wonders!

And I hope the bread thing doesn't do Sunny in. I know it is a big no-no for me. It was the one thing I didn't think I could live without until I gave it up and now I don't even think about it anymore. Tell Sunny I said 'Hi' the next time you talk to her.

You really got a lot of exercise yesterday! I didn't do nearly that much. Running after a 1 year old is a bit of exercise but she slept half the time I had her here in the afternoon! I did do 30 minutes on the eliptical machine after my abs routine and I weeded 2 rows in the garden after supper.

It's raining today so I think I'll go shopping after lunch because I can't do anything outside and I'm out of cat food! Ye old kitty gets very testy if I'm out of her food because she won't eat people food, not even fish, and she only eats 1 kind of cat food.

Well, I'm off to the elliptical again! I hope you enjoy your day off!

not the greatest news at the doctor today but not bad by any means. No meds were changed....but the next A1C I have (and after my next blood tests which are any day now) she will decide whether to take me off the glyb/metormin in the morning and only have me on metformin morning and evening...that would be some good news.

My A1C this morning was 5.0 -- last June when I was diagnosed it was 10.3 so I've taken it in half in 1 year. I actually didn't do anything good about my weight or my diabetes until January when I started Atkins. I had been to a nutritionist but wasn't happy with the plan she had devised for me....I didn't want to GAIN weight......sheesh! The Endo looked at her charts and I had lost 12 pounds since I had seen her last so she was happy about that and said she felt I was really trying to get my health and life in order (glad someone noticed!!).

I will go by the end of the week and have my blood work done so we can see how things look now.....my blood pressure was the lowest it's been in 5 years so I was also happy about that.

I'm taking today off completely - no challenges except the water challenge...I will hit it hard tomorrow!

Good news today ... just maybe not as great of news as I was hoping for! But, it will come in time.
                    Carole

Sorry you didn't get the news you wanted, Carole; but the weight loss and the low BP reading sound great, and no doubt made your doc happy, so there is that!

I'm ok with the visit Norah -- in the back of my mind I knew there were going to be no changes but it was something to shoot for. Once I have my blood work for both of them to look at (I'm going Monday to have it done) things might be different. I understand without the blood work and since my last tests came up with fatty liver it would have been silly for her to make any changes. At least I don't have to test twice a day now -- only 3 times a week unless I feel I need to check more often than that. o there was some good news -- those little test strips are very expensive and we're buying for 2 people! I get them through a company online and for 3 months the strips run almost $200.00 -- it will be nice to cut that amount down.

My day will come (singing the song "Our Day Will Come" by Ruby & The Romantics) -- I am learning patience. It is a hard lesson but one that will suit me well the rest of my life I hope!!

                        How are things with you???

I went yesterday morning and had my blood work done....1 vial and a cup later I walked out --- still have my fingers crossed I hear good news. This is the first blood work I have had done since I've been on Atkins -- I had some blood drawn the last of the year so I pretty much knew where I was starting then I did start in January.
Since i"ve been on Atkins I have been taking all my medicine correctly -- some days I haven't taken my meds at the right time (latelly not at the beginning of Atkins) but the Lovaza (fish oil pills) I have been taking correctly -- before I was taking 2 a day because they were so expensive (50.00 a month) but I have been taking 4 a day as the script was written since January so I'm hoping my triglicerides have gone down - they should be down just by the way I've been eating but you watch, the doctors will say it's because of the pills and not diet. When I hit goal I'll tell them my way of eating is Atkins not that stupid diet each of them wanted me on where I was doing a great job of gaining weight.

                          Enough for today

Fingers crossed, Carole! Atkins greatly improved my triglyceride level; I'm doing the fish oil thing, too, but I get them online and they're very reasonably priced. Yours are prescription strength? Do you get "test anxiety" when a lipid profile or other test comes up? I do! I think that little bit of stress causes the total cholesterol reading to go up a bit (like your blood pressure tends to go up at the doctor's office ... "white coat hypertension") ... then again, that may just be a juicy rationalization on my part !

Hi Norah -- we'll see if I had any test anxiety of not!! I was more worried about mom's eye surgery that morning and the fact that we had to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. (GAWD awful time of day!) and not so much about me so maybe that's a good thing. I know what you mean about white coat hypertension -- I use to have that all the time - as soon as the nurse grabbed the cuff I was all but hyperventelating! When I was at the doctor last week my numbers were lower than they have been in the last 5 years .. YEA!

The Lovaza I take are huge and I take 4 a day. Yea, they are $50.00 a month so hopefully they are doing their job.
