  • Re: Another 50+ member

I took a day off because yesterday from the exercise video and went on a short walk instead because the front of my thighs were so sore down to my knees. Tuesday I did ride my bike (normal ride) but yesterday my legs were just too sore to do any riding or God forbid, a video! Today the pain was finally gone so I rode the bike my normal 25 miles. I'm going to try and do the video later tonight, before I go to bed and hopefully since I won't be riding the bike right after I finish the video I won't be so sore tomorrow. I really want to do the video 3 times this week -- then I'll try for everyday next week or maybe every other - we'll see.

I woke up with a sinus headache this morning so after I got the hubs off to work I went back to bed - woke up at 10:30 and felt a little better. Since I didn't get up in time for breakfast I had lunch at noon and took my pills just before that.

I had a 1/2 avocado, 2oz of corned beef and cottage cheese for lunch with water. I had a 1/2c of 7 layer salad and a string cheese around 3:30 (no peas on the salad) so I figured that was sort of a meal. For dinner we had thin NY Strip Steak (5oz), fried radishes O'Brien (green peppers & onions cooked with the radishes) and 2 eggs. It was delicious! I also had 3 small strawberries and 1 oz cream cheese & 2 oz cream all mixed together after dinner. Delicious meals and just think - I'm dieting...ROFL! I love this WOE!

ok - today I got through the 30 Day Shred video again. I feel better today - but I only did the video, didn't ride the bike. It took 3 days to get to the point where my legs didn't hurt when I walked so I am thrilled that I have no pain in them now. The pain started right after I got off the bike the other day - so I'm thinking I'm ok today. I tell you that video will get you sweating!!!

We're going to a local festival tomorrow - they are having a taste of local foods and a vintage car show. It's a small town so we're going to help support them. They had a great St Patricks Day parade and we had ribeye steak afterward (it was suppose to be a sandwich but I had it without the bun). There are a few little food shops and a great grocery store there so I'm hoping they have the steaks again and I'll take my baggie of veggies to eat with it.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Carole. I hope you enjoyed the festival.

I have a Richard Simmons video that I really like but since I rearranged the livingroom furniture, I don't have enough room to do the dance moves so I haven't been using it. What is the name of the shred video you have and does it require a lot of space to do it?

I've been doing good on the diet and although I haven't gotten back down to where I was last year, I'm only 5 lbs. away. I've gotten rid of the peanut butter and cashews that give me so much trouble. I just can't stop eating them once I start but since dh left on a trip 10 days ago, I haven't had any at all. I'm hoping that I've weaned myself off of them to the point that I won't be tempted by them when he returns tomorrow and buys more. He was supposed to be gone for 3 weeks but has been sick and is on his way home now.

I haven't been online as much as I would like to be lately but now that things are settling down around here, I hope to be back as usual. I really miss it when I can't get on.

I miss you too when you aren't online Nyna!!! The video is Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Amazon.com: Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred: Jillian Michaels, Andrea Ambandos: Movies & TV. You only need enough room to lay down to do a small portion of the video. Most of the time you are on your feet and only moving a small amount of space from left to right....it's a great video and has 3 different levels so it will take awhile to grow out of it. I got mine at Target for $8.99.

We had another storm come through last night - 70-80 mph winds were reported but not much rain this time (yea). The worst of the storm went around us. This past week 3 people in the area died from the heat. The storm last night took the humidity out of the air and it's much more pleasant today. Yesterday at this time it was 98 degrees, today it's 87....doesn't sound like much but it's huge! I just keep remembering that this is what we dream of in December when it's cold or snowing!!! LOL

We had a good time at the festival yesterday -- there were about 100 antique cars displayed and we voted for our favorite before we left. They had a live band, different food tents and of course (because of where we live) Budweiser! Mom and I had a hamburger from the firemen tent...I thought it was best to support the volunteer firemen because there were so many eating at the restaurant where the live band was. I had my trusty baggie with 1Tbsp of ranch dressing in a container and red/yellow pepper strips and cauliflower to dip into it to go along with my hamburger. We each had a bottle of water in our purses and additional water bottles in the car. Luckily we had a great parking spot close to where everything was going on so it was nice to be able to go back and get additional water.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!! Almost the end of the month, hopefully I'll get my challenges finished! I've been slacking on the ab challenge, gotta go get them done!

Wow Carole, you sure do get a lot of storms down there! I love a good electrical storm but we seldom get them anymore. We get rain but very little thunder and lightning.

My dh got back from his trip yesterday with a mountain of laundry and camping gear so I've been busy with that. He takes this trip every June to check out hunting spots in NM and Co. He's still not over the cold he's had but he's getting better. His sugar and bp are out of control though. I think he needs to see his doctor but he won't go. Oh, well. I can't force him.

I just started the thread for the July abs challenge and I hope to see you there again. Have a great day!

We have really had our share of storms this year and frankly I'm ready for them to stop! It clouded up and looked like it was going to rain this afternoon but that passed (yea!)

We went grocery shopping just before lunch today and got home around 1:00. As soon as we put everything away we had lunch and around 2:30 I decided to go ride the bike. I don't know what hit me but I rode a little and then I was in the bathroom for almost an hour. When I finally was able to stay out of there I came up and took my blood sugar - it was 71 (I knew it was lower because of the way I felt). I ate a string cheese and went and laid down for awhile. So, instead of my usual 25 miles I only rode 7-1/2 before all h#ll broke loose!!! I'm going to go try to get a few more miles in before I go to bed because I feel a little better now.

We had tacos for dinner tonight -- I love the cheese shells...I had 1 "taco" and a small taco salad because I needed some veggies. I had no idea my stomach was going to be so upset when I made the taco meat this morning....so I went very light on the meat in case it might upset my stomach again!

I have to drive dh to/from work tomorrow, his ride is taking the day off so he has an additional day on the long weekend. I'll be glad when the 4th is over because I'm so tired of hearing the fireworks going off and it scares Sadie. The people 2 houses down have a huge display every year - last year it lasted over an hour & a half and they had a HUGE fanale. Friday I get to sleep in ...yea!!!

              Have a great weekend.

Sorry to hear that you were sick, Carole. I hope you're completely over it now!

We had a nice thunderstorm last night but it didn't last more than 10 minutes. We just don't get them like we used to and I miss them. Ours were never as severe as the ones you get in the South and we don't get tornados either. We don't even get blizzards anymore!

I made Curried Chicken again last night. I had it last week too but dh was still away on his trip and didn't get any. I could live on it! I put the recipe for it in the Main Dish thread of the Recipe forum if anyone is interested in it.

I need to spend some time weeding the garden again. Thank God we don't plant the huge garden we used to. We had our first batch of turnips for supper last night and they were so good. I used to cook them with potatoes and then mash them but this time I cooked them separately because I don't eat potatoes anymore even though I'm on pre-maintenance. I stay away from anything that might cause cravings. The only starchy vegetable I eat is the carrots that come shredded in lettuce mixes because there are so few that they have no effect on me.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out what we're going to have for dinner...mom's stomach is upset and she threw up earlier, so she won't be eating anything solid tonight - so that leaves dh and I.

After I rode the bike and did my other challenge exercises I cleaned the car inside and out and then cleaned the garage. I figured if the car was clean the garage should be also.

We were planning to go to the parade and then to the fair afterwards but I'm doubting we go now - not with mom not feeling well.

I made mock potato salad today - I keep seeing the recipe (using cauliflower in place of potatoes) and thought I'd make it someday...well, today was that day. When I tasted it to make sure I had the right amounts of everything in it I must admit is tasted like the potato salad I use to make!!! YEA! I also made deviled eggs. We are having hamburgers and hot dogs tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the end of the 6WEC and I don't know how things are going to go....I know I haven't lost any weight but I don't know about inches. When I lay down my body seems to feel smaller than it did before so I'm hoping that means I'm loosing inches still. I really need to get serious again and do things rigidly like I was before. I don't know what my problem is, I honestly am not bored with the food because the food is wonderful....I just need to get back at it again. I think I'm going to sit out the next 6WEC - I've participated in the last 3 so if I sit one out maybe I'll be ready for the next one.

Did anyone else experience not being able to sign on the ADBB earlier on the 3rd? I tried from around 7:00 until 2:30 a.m. - kept getting a database error. Finally at 2:30 a.m. I was able to get on.

Was beginning to think I wasn't allowed back on due to something I said or didn't say....oh well

Carole, I think you are a week ahead of yourself on the 6WEC because this is the end of week 5, not week 6. We still have a week to go.

I know how hard it is to get back on plan strickly because I've been there. I eat only allowed foods, just too much and it's discouraging at times to not be able to resist overeating. But I'm doing better now that I've given up nuts and I've lost 4 lbs. in 3 weeks just by doing that although I'm not back down yet to my lowest weight yet. I still have a couple of pounds to go.

I hope your Mom is soon better!

I have many anniversaries throughout the year - Cancer survivor anniversaries (2 time survivor) - marriage anniversaries - divorce anniversaries (being married 3 times helps get the total up), but July has a couple more than other months.

Mom had the Cancer surgery that saved her life 5 years ago this month - things have never been the same but she has her life and for that we are thankful. I'm sure there are times she wishes she had her old life but some things are not meant to be - she is alive - that is what matters.

Today - July 4th - is my 3 year anniversary -- 3 years ago this morning I woke up, tore my last pack of cigarettes in half, threw away all the ashtrays and lighters.....I have never looked back - it was the best decision I could make for my health at that time. Those first couple days were not fun (cold turkey is a killer) but after those first few days I was ok. I only tried to stop smoking twice -- the first time I used the losenges but they made me lightheaded and sick to my stomach and 3 days later I was back to smoking 3 packs a day. I must admit when I smell someone smoking it still appeals to me (the smoke smell - not the act of smoking) but I've not waivered. 3 years ago this was the only thing I had on my mind.....

3 years later I am 6 months into another health decision -- this time it's my weight. I need to get my mind back in the game and back on the prize!! I measured this morning for the 6WEC (thought it was Sunday) - I've only lost 2-1/4 pounds since this challenge started but they were from my waist, which is where I carry the bulk of my weight so it's a good thing!

I haven't lost any weight in this 6 weeks and I know it's because I'm not in the right frame of mind! I am going to spend some time re-reading DANDR and find my way back. I'm feeling lost right now.

No, I'm not 50 yet... Just wanted to answer your question, Carole. There was indeed some funny thingie going on with the database, I wasn't able to access parts of the Board either, although I managed to log in (I'm always logged in ). We obviously wouldn't kick you out like that.

It happened again last night when I came back to check in -- couldn't get in....I was told Tom has been informed and will check on the database. I emailed him the first night and ask what as going on .....

The fireworks started around noon today -- I haven't heard any for about 5 minutes so I'm hoping everyone has finally gone to bed and the rest of us can sleep now. Our dog is shell shocked and hasn't been outside in a couple days....I'm hopin with people going back to work tomorrow we won't have any fireworks going off tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the 4th of July and celebrating our country -- the problem is this has been going on since Thursday -- 10 - 12 hours of fireworks -- constant deafening sound -- the smell of sulphur and smoke so thick you can barely see across the street. A few fireworks are one thing -- we've been living in a friggin war zone.

Today was a good day eating -- I had an egg/cheese and salsa for breakfast, faux-tato salad and a hot dog for lunch and a big salad, broccoli and NY Strip Steak for dinner. Around 9:00 I had 3 tbsp of cream whipped up as a little treat - since it's a holiday weekend.

                              Have a great Atkins week!!

It's Monday -- after the hubs went to work I laid back down to try and relax after the weekend. Mom still isn't feeling well but she ate good tonight -- when she does this the only thing I can get her to eat and keep down is potatoes and gravy - so I made fried chicken (flour on theirs - mine in a seperate skillet) so I could make her white gravy. When I say "fried" chicken I don't fry it like they down in the south - with a skillet FULL of grease....I put a couple tablespoons of oil in the bottom of the skillet and fry it fast until it's crunchy & brown then turn it down and put a lid on it (so it cooks through) -- about 5 minutes before it time to eat I take the lid off and crisp the skin up again. Then I use the cracklings left in the pan and the little bit of grease to make the gravy.

After I got up I had lunch - Nathan's hot dog and the end of my faux-tato salad and an ounce of the grilled colored peppers we had the other night. Then went to 2 grocery stores to get supplies for the week. Also stopped at the UPS store to send back 3 dead harddrives to get them replaced. When I got back and the groceries were put away I started dinner and now that it's almost 8:00 I'm finally getting a second to sit and have a much needed cup of coffee!!

I had fried chicken (no flour) and spinach for dinner -- I really wasn't hungry but managed to get all my carbs in today and am completely full. I left a little of the chicken for tomorrow's lunch or a snack.

Talked to my brother this afternoon -- they had a nice weekend. My oldest niece is moving into her new apartment (and out of mom & dad's house) the 1st of August. She had an apartment at college but her cousin is staying there for the summer so they didn't have to store her furniture for a few months. It worked out for everyone that way. She has mom's living room set and most of the kitchen stuff was mom's and she has my old bedroom set so she was set up with everything she needed. I also gave her an extra big TV we had so she could see it - they one her dad gave her was a 13" and was so old I'm really surprised it was a color set...LOL! Last month there were 4 girls looking for a place to live together - then it went to 3 girls, back to 4 girls and now it's my niece and 1 other girl....they sign the lease tomorrow so there won't be any other girls allowed once that's done. The girls have been great friends all through school so I hope it works out for them. Her boyfriend got a job at the same company she's working - but in another department....he'll be moving to town in the next few weeks - he's in town all the time it's about time he got a job there...LOL!!!!!

I need to break out of the funk I've been in lately.....I don't seem to remember things because I'm not concentrating on things. I'm trying to take 1 thing at a time and get it back under control....Lord knows I don't do well in a world that has no control!

Have a great Atkins food day tomorrow!!
                                Carole
