  • Confession:

I fell off the wagon yesterday. It's my TOM, and I had lunch with a friend and ended up having a non-Atkins meal. I'm feeling down on myself, angry because I didn't stick with it, and now I just want to eat crap again because I feel ashamed and embarrassed and unworthy of being healthy.

So far I haven't blown it today, and I am trying really hard to be good. It's ridiculous that I can get that down on myself.

    • The key is to get right back on the wagon, so many times I have messed up and then "thought, well I already messed up too late now". That mentality is what gets you. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on that wagon. Don't let one slip up sabatoge your mission!! TO LOSE WEIGHT!!

But at least you didnt fall into the old 'Well i've blown it now - might as well eat chocolate' trap that lurks around on those occasions.
And now you know how TOM messes with your head and body you will be prepared next time.

Good for you on climbing back on the wagon today.
You CAN do it Stephanie :joy

        • Now I know why they call it "climbing" back on the wagon - dang it's an uphill battle! I've been fighting with myself all day to stay on plan.

Why is it so much easier to say "Oh, screw it. I messed up so I might as well eat __________ ". But when I've got several days under my belt, it's easier?

          Stupid psychological baloney.

          • Hey, and do we have weekly threads, or just this one? I was thinking it would be nice to come up with some good questions to get to know each other better and keep us all motivated and "together". Can I post some or can only the leader of team 5 do that?

            • Good idea Stephanie - as long as you head the subject with Team 5 so we can recognise it!
There really isnt a leader as such - we are all in this as equals so please anyone feel free to post if you want to start another thread.
Maybe keep the weekly stats (if anyone wants to post them) in this thread to keep them together?

              • Congrats on those feeling thin. I wish I were, even though I have made it through day 7 now. Today I had 4 eggs, leg of lamb with an herb, olive oil and little bit of Parmesan crust. More calories than the past six days, but still almost zero carbs. Hope that the scale won't be higher tomorrow. The ketostix are still beige. Despite a week of strict zero carb induction, there has been no sign of being in ketosis. Oh, well. I am nevertheless going to start to add leafy greens and tomorrow have some spinach with the lamb. Have been drinking 3 liters of water and taking supplements twice a day. I wasn't on the exercise bike yesterday or today. I need to make a stronger committment to that. Good luck to all of you on continuing your progress.

                • Hello Marji :hug

I am not sure about the science of ketosis but maybe as you are eating no veggies as yet and nearly no carbs it is hindering your getting into ketosis?

Perhaps doing induction 'proper' might kickstart you?

Try to ignore the stix and the scales for a few days too. If you follow induciton as written you may find it comes together for you.

And Stephanie - keep fighting to stay on plan - it DOES get easier :hug

Are you planning your menus in advance? I find that by entering my daily foods into www.fitday.com it somehow helps me keep on track.
When I began to do this sometimes I managed to stick to it by remembering I will have to add the no-noes to it and mess up my nice piechart and graphs :yikes

Steph, don't be so hard on yourself! Give that baseball bat you're hitting yourself with to the good will. Instead pick youself up, dust yourself off, and then turn around and take a good hard objective look at what caused you to fall. How could you have handled that lunch differently? Explore your emotions? What triggered the slip? Once you figure out the causes then you can plan different response for the next time. Because you know there will be a next time. Planning is the key to long term success. I know you can do it.

                          • Well - another weekend has come around again and I wondered how everyone is doing?

I have been plugging away at things and am several days into the dairy rung of OWL now - had chicken tikka (leftover from yesterday's dinner) and yogurt tonight. Used to be my regular Saturday evening meal with basmati rice (of course) so I have had to improvise - as I had no lettuce I had it with some boiled celery - tasted fine. anyone any other suggestions for a veggie to go with it?

Next week we might buy me a new bike (a posh 'Pashley Princess Sovereign') if when I try it out I like it and it feels OK. Then all we need is some good weather to go out in!!

Hope you all have a good weekend. :hug
