Did anyone else notice a 'Celeriac sighting' this week on the BBC?

Tom Archer included one (with a recipe) in Lilian Archer's veggy box this week!!!

I love using this veggie - chips, mash, crisps and roasted!!

So do I - always have it roasted when the rest of the family have roast potatoes

Laburnum and Elizellen - what does it taste like? I've seen it in the shops here but was not sure how to prepare or cook it. I love trying alternative veggies like this, so any tips would be welcome.

That is a good description of the taste.

All you need to do is peel them and then use them as you would use parsnip or potatoes.

            Re: UK!

Maybe this is the right place to ask for the kind of help I need. I posted somewhere on the OWL forum but nobody replied.
1- So can someone help me out with these 'veggie cups'????
I have already messed up my carb ladder once and I wanna do it properly this time: how does it come that during induction we are allowed to have 3 cups of veggie and then on the sticky in the OWL forum it appears that 13 cups of lettuce is only 5 gr carbs????
Even if lettuce has the smallest amount of carb ever among the vegs.......still?
I even bought some measuring cups to try to figure this out and I have been struggling while on induction with the little amount of veggies you are able to fit in this tiny containers!!!
is there any converter from cup to oz for vegetables?
hope someone here can help me out!

              Re: UK!

I think Dr Atkins wanted us to learn portion contral alongside sensible eating choices. Lettuce (especially iceberg) is virtually 'chewy water' with little nutrients so you would be better off with one of the darker lettuces and other 2-cup vegetables if possible.

Most of us added more nutrient-rich veggies in the OWL rung as who would want to eat 13 cups of lettuce when they could have more broccoli or tastier veggies!!

There is a database you can refer to and download for use offline which lists the carbs and grams for a cup of many foods here:

                Re: UK!

                Thank alot Elizellen!

this helped a lot and the nutrient database, even though confusing and not very eye-catching, seems to be very useful!

So, to make it short and simple, the 3-cup veggies allowance on induction, is more a suggestion than a rule, as long as we check the label and count our carb under 20........I can ipotetically have more than 3cups of lettuce while on induction! Am I right?

                  Re: UK!

Not really, gala if you want to do induction 'by the book'

Instead of eating piles of lettuce it is better to eat 3 cups of vegetables from the allowed list that contain more nutrition that plain old lettuce . Look at the allowed list and choose some with more goodness in them which will mean more carbs.

I think Dr Atkins wanted us to learn portion control on induction which is why he put a limit of 3 cups only.

Once you have done the 14 days it would be better to move to the first OWL level (we call them rungs) and start to eat more carbs of the same veggies. I did several 'sets' of 5 net carbs of different veggies before moving on so have 6-8 cups of veggies most days.

                    Re: UK!

Got it! thanks for the advice Elizellen!!!
I read DANDR more than once but I think the UK edition had it wrong in converting the veggies measurement from cup to oz!!! It says 8-12 oz salad a day and .......well there's no way I can fit all these oz in three of those US measur. cups!
Have you worked your ANA based on the US or UK edition?

                      Re: UK!

I went with the 'cups' rather than with the large weights in the UK book - I found out from a UK lowcarb board fairly early on that the UK one had incorrectly put weight ounces instead of fluid ounces and so bought some measuring cups to use.
