            Hi everyone! I divide my year between the UK and States, and I'm not sure what I heard about the Tescos. We have a very large one, and what type of products would be there?

            At Queensgate I'm going to check out the Boots, the gourmet section that was mentioned sounds brilliant!

              One thing I found in Tescos which is great for anyone past the OWL starchy veggies rung (which I assume you are as you have 10 pounds to goal) is their 'Root Vegetable Crisps'
              These are made from parsnips, sweet potatoes and beetroots and are very tasty.
              But they come in a 100g pack so I divide them into 25 gram portions and use them as a vegetable garnish rather than eat them straight from the packet.
              Sainsburys and the larger Waitrose stores have their own brand ones too.

                  I find the shop food here in London gross when it comes to Atkins...

                  I also find again and again labels that just can't be true...

                  In holland and barrets the other day I found a "diet" cereal that said it had 12.5 carbs per 100 gram but also said it had 30grams fibre per 100 grams.

                  It seems sometimes they refer to suger and starch and other times I really dont know how they calculate the rubbish they write on the labels.

                  I personally am just tryong to make as much to eat at home as I can so I know exactly what goes into my food.

                  I even got shocked when I went out a couple of days ago and brought french salami from A french market only to find out when I got it home that it had 6grams of sugar per 100 grams...GRrrrrrrr sacre blau!

                    The only thing I know is that here in Uk the carb count showed on the labels is already the NET carb, so that you don't have to subtract fibre!

                      You are right, ruri - our labels have the fibre as a seperate item that has already been deducted from the total carb count.

                      So the cereal that John found had a total carb count of 42.5, of which 12.5 is the net carb amount.

                        hello there guys and gals
                        started induction 9 days ago lost 10lb hoorah! I bought a jar of Hermesetas because I was craving sugar like mad and couldn't afford splenda cuz i'm a dirt poor student. I was wondering if Hermesetas is just as good as splenda?

                          Welcome to ADBB.
                          That loss is great - well done

                          You will need to check the ingredients to see which artificial sweetener is used as I did a quick google and it looks like some versions of Hermesetas contain aspartame and other sweeteners not on the 'allowed list'.

                            You may use Hemesitas Mini (the tablets) and Liquid Hermesetas - both are saccharin and Atkins legal.

                            Hemesetas Gold and the Granulated form are not legal - Aspartame

                            I use the liquid form in cooking - it has a zero carb overhead. You can only get it by special order from an independent chemist - Boots don't stock it - it will take only a couple of days.

                            You may find a generic saccharin sweetener cheaply - I haven't looked. Tablets sometimes are not convenient - but you can crush them between two teaspoons, if you cant disolve them in water before use.

                              Hey team,

                              Wow, its wonderful to know there is a thread for U.K, just found it today. Some wonderful tips on what to buy and where to buy from. Interesting. I was always struggling with what to buy and from where???

                              I am on extended induction and have a craving from something sweet, My Morrision/Asda/Tesco have stopped selling low-carb bars, was wondering what I can have instead???

                              I read somewhere that some sort of cheese cake is allowed??? Anyone know about it????

                                I dont think you'll find a lowcarb cheesecake with only induction ingredients ready-made in UK.

                                I make my own when I need to make family desserts.
                                There are lots of recipes around for cheesecakes that are induction-legal.

                                Here is a thread with one recipe - read through it for suggestions on how to vary the texture by having different ratios of egg:cream cheese. The recipe I use has less eggs than the one posted here and makes a much smaller cake (less problems with portion control!!).

                                If you dont want to make a big cake for a party etc then try just mixing a couple of tablespoons of cream cheese (I get Waitrose own brand which has less carbs than the Philledelphia brand) with a little sweetener instead.

                                But bear in mind that feeding a 'sweet craving' with sweet food doesnt help you to conquer that craving - it just feeds it for a while!

                                Many of us avoided sweet foods during induction and into OWL and made our sugar monster shrivel up and die for lack of sweet stuff! Often eating something savoury or tart instead like a sour pickle or piece of sharp cheese will kill sweet cravings!
