  • Re: UK!

    Hi
I've just been reading about Heinz Low Carb Ketchup...does anyone know if you can buy this in the UK?
I was thinking that added to mayo it would make an OK sauce for prawns

    Thanks

I've never found it in Waitrose, Asda, Somerfield or Lidl (my usual supermarkets) so I mix concentrated tomato paste (check for no added sugars) with my Lidl mayo (0.9 carbs per 100 grams) for my husband and other family members and they dont complain. I just like plain mayo with some chopped red peppers or capers with my prawns.

Some of the mailorder UK lowcarb sites do offer a lowcarb ketchup but I havent ordered any myself.

I have ordered from them several times and always got prompt delivery and excellent responses to emails or phone enquiries.

                  Hi Emma

I always have chicken tikka massala - usually with a spinach/cheese side dish. If I have a starter it will be a shami / sheek kebab. As we go for a curry every saturday night - our local has got used to me not eating rice, poppadoms or naan bread.

Is there anywhere to find sugar-free cough syrup? Boots was no help. I prefer pholcodine, it is the only cough supressant that doesn't leave me waking up jittery at two am.
I am probably just a stupid American that doesn't know her way around enough to find anything

                      Hi,

I haven't managed to find one so far, you're right Boots was no help. Try other chemists perhaps like Lloyds? An internet search for a brand and then stockists might help?

                      Hope you feel better soon

the one I have on my desk in work has syrup and black treacle!!! oops!! It really works though, and you only need to take it for a day or two!!! Oh yes it also contains chloroform - so totally knocks you out!! lol Its called Allens Pine and Honey Balsam - most supermarkets sell it - Morrisons do I know that for certain.

I hope you're feeling better soon too

I feel too guilty if I was to have a small cheat, even if it was cough syrup.

So what do diabetics do in the UK? I checked out another chemist near my flat, can't remember the name but no luck.

I am putting this on my list of 'things to bring me' when my friends are over next month for my wedding. I feel better already, guess peppermint tea was enough to let me sleep through the cough.

I am still on the hunt--I did find sugar-free Strepsils.

Quick question, I used to have Chipolatas from tescos but I just read somewhere that I can't eat food with both protein and carbs. I don't know if that's true. They are 12 traditionally made pork chipolatas, with 1.2g carbs (of which sugars 0.5g) for every 2 sausages. Are these ok to eat during induction week? Or is this a No No!!

                                Hi Mrs Minnie,

No you can eat protein and carbs together. I don't know what the average chipolata has in it - so check the ingredients thoroughly for any syrups or sugar or any filler like breadcrumbs. IF they don't 1.6g per 2 sausages sounds fine to me.

DANDR 2002 has a great list of induction friendly foods - and there is also useful info on induction in the FAQ - especially 40 tips for newbies - I wish I'd seen these earlier!

                                Best of luck
