  • Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

This is my second time around. The first time I went from 242 to 206 falling just short of my 200 goal. That was almost three years ago. I maintained the 210-215 level for more than a year and have gained quite a bit in the last 6 months. I now weigh 229.6 and have to do this all over again. I have no doubt that I can, it is the lifestyle part that I must be committed to. I found this board and decided that it could add a bit of accountability to the process which will really help me out. I will be adding pictures so I can't misrepresent my progress. I don't know how many times around that I have had with this way of life, but I do belong here because I have been through this at least twice before and successfully lost a lot of weight. I know I gained it all back and then some, but I leanred from my mistake that I can't just go off of this way of life. It's a way of life for a reason and I now understand that. I guess I was really immature when I started this a long time ago when I was younger, but now that I am older and wiser, I understand I am pumped to lose all that weight. I have been on this way of life for 6 days now and I kind of looked at the scale and the results are fantabulous!!! -dances- I can't wait till I get to my goal; weight, I don't mind how long it takes!! You guys so rock!! You're the ones that are keeping me motivated.

Hello everyone, and good luck to all of us. One day at a time, and let's not beat ourselves up when we slip. I started good today, and hope to do that tomorrow. And you?

I tried to do the ticker thing, but too confusing. Anyone willing to share how to do it with us? Thanks

I'm preparing to start induction tomorrow, and I personally find it much easier to stay on track if I am accountable to someone, so I wonder if I can run my induction scedule by you guys on a daily basis. By that I mean I will post my daily food choices, and just the knowing that someone will be monitoring them with me will keep me on track. I've re-read the book and think I've got it right...

I'm struggling to do the right thing, but guess what my husband brought home? I sent him for his potatoes(I don't eat them) and he saw an apple tart for l,57Euro and brought it home for me. He doesn't think about what I can eat, so I guess I have to do it. I hate to turn down his gifts to me, but none of them are on Atkins. He doesn't mean harm, just isn't thinking, and not realizing how important this is for me. Does anyone else have this problem with someone unintentionally sabatoging them? Any advice? And I can't yet walk fast for exercise due to a knee operation. Anyone have exercises that know about which would burn calories? Thanks for any help. I'm desperate!

I am so discouraged and so need help, but I know I am the only one who can make this change. I dread induction again. I am not sure if I want to do this or try Weight Watchers again. I miss not being able to eat fruit and have a hard time with this program, but I keep reading the stories and see how it works. I have been doing this since middle of July 2005. I got down to 220, but have gained back about 10 pounds. I slip a day here a day there. Why do i put on weight so fast? I am just not sure what I am doing so wrong. I need some coaching. I want to get this weight off and I am stuck! Can someone give me some help please?!

Hi. Welcome to the group. We are not very active in responding to others, but I'll try to do my part. I live in Holland, and found the first time around quite easy. I lived on our allotment, and the house has no electricity, etc. We grow our own produce, so I simply picked it, cooked it(propane) and ate so healthly. I also worked my butt off, literally. The exercise, I believe was the key, because I lost 28 pounds and looked and felt great. IBS was gone, I could do things I couldn't do before, like tie shoes. Then, back to apartment for winter, then to California for visit, and slipped and tasted this and that. Yep, cravings came back. Then knee problems, can't walk much at all, operations, and here I am, second time around, at 200 pounds. But, I am aware of what is going in my mouth, so I'm better than before. And when I start to beat myself up for eating a bit of the wrong thing, I remember to love myself. I hope you have success in finding the way through the maze of eating well, and being healthy. Success. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Barbara

It seems to be so much harder the second time around. I think because the first time around I really didn't have any expectations, so every pound that came off was a gift. I am having a REALLY hard time just getting past day one this time especially because all the kids easter candy is lying around. Oh, well, I'll just have to deal with it. Got on the exercise bike this morning, so that's a start. I'm so glad this bulletin board is still here for support. Thx

Hi Karen How was the ride on the bike? I find them so boring, but love to walk. Sadly, the knees don't like it. I had a great day yesterday, but ate at McDonald's. Great part was being with grandchildren (for last time) before moving back to USA, and loving every minute. Bad part was the bun I ate, but I had the smallest meal, and a very small dinner. Then did some garden work to work it all off. Today begins another day of choices, and not beating myself up. And your day?

Well, I didn't make it through yesterday either. Those chocolate eggs got me again. The exercise bike is ok, I have it right in front of the TV. I also have a treadmill that I haven't used. The bf isn't too happy about that. I like to walk also, fortunately my knees are ok, but I've gotten lazy. Today is another day. I'm downing the water like crazy and trying to figure out if I can bag the kids candy and tell them to stash it somewhere that I don't know about. From the things I've read on the 2nd time around, is it harder to get into ketosis? even if you follow everything the wayd you did the first time around? thx

Hi Karen, Bagging the candy is a good idea. Make your bag very small. I live in a very small apartment here in Holland, so all of my husband's lunch stuff is right under my nose. I realized today that I pass the cookies and then unconsciously think about them when I feel a snack attack. So, must find a way around that. I never did go into Ketosis when I lost all of my weight. I couldn't get the strips here, so just watched my eating and since there are no L.C. products here, didn't get tempted for Atkins bars, etc. The simplier I ate the better I felt. What is wrong now. Emotions, I guess. How about you. I leave some very dear people here in June, never to see again, so I'm a bit sad. Also my best friend is being operated on Monday for cancer, and just a week ago they operated on a colleague of my husband and sewed him up again..cancer and dying. Darn that cancer! It affects not just the patient but everyone who loves them. Anyway, walking isn't too exciting except when with someone, I have found. Even with lovely ancient buildings and a river and tourist boats nearby, I can't get excited. Limping is not a fun way to walk.
How about doing 5 minutes on the bike and I'll do five minutes of going down the steps (ouch) and work up to getting out the door by the weekend. Hugs, Barb
