One thing I learned last time was the importance of treating myself to something nice FREQUENTLY. If I was a wealthy STACked person, I'd be swimming in facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. Alas, I'm not.
So here are some cheap things that do wonders for the soul:
1. Go to one of the makeup places in the mall (Sephora, MAC, etc). Ask them to do a makeup lesson on you. Sometimes you have to schedule an appt, other times you can just walk in. A trained professional will give you a makeover and teach you how to apply your makeup for FREE! You'll leave looking gorgeous and there's no obligation to buy a thing!
2. Get a pedicure. I don't know about where you are, but actually here in California, you can get them for $15 to $20. It's amazing what lovely toes will do for your self-esteem. Not to mention getting your feet massaged.
3. Have a tea party. You can invite your kids, or a friend, or do it all by yourself. Use decaf tea (there are SO many flavors) and make yourself a little plate of treats. Serve in an elegant way (the kids love this!) A nice plate is: 1 cloud, 5 olives, artichoke heart, flax cracker with melted cheese or brie. Put on some nice music (I tried Van Halen once and it just wasn't the same, so I stick to classical for the tea parties!), a nice outfit, and perfume. Sit outside if you can, or in a nice place in your house.
4. When all the kids are asleep (this is critical!) make yourself a bubble bath. Light some candles. Put on music. Soak. Lather yourself afterwards with fragrant lotion. Paint your toenails. Seduce your hubby if the mood strikes you!
Any more ideas?
