Go outside on a clear summer's night. Put a sheet on the grass. Lie down and look at the stars.

Are you doing something nice for yourself this week?

Great question! Now that you mention I think I will!!! Maybe I can convince my husband to brush my hair. I love having my hair brushed. I like a lot of these ideas. This is a great thread! I wish I had one to add. The thrift store shopping is one I do as frequently as I can. Especially when I was shrinking out of clothes. I buys tons of books for myself and the kids there as well. I guess a nice thing I do for me is smile at myself in the mirror at least once a day no matter how badly I feel. Sometimes it helps to lift my mood.

Funny you say this....I just read an article last week about a technique to raise your spirits and it's all about the smile.....

They suggest putting a thick straw (like the mcdee's type) between your teeth and don't let your lips touch it. This mimics smiling and will actually fool your mind into thinking you are happy! I tried it and it DOES seem to work!

As for 'nice things' I do for myself..... a glass of wine (well, faux champagne will do these days...lol) my couch, a blanket, a fire in my fireplace and a really good movie....ahhhh

Of course this doesn't happen often with 4 rugrats running around...haha

Re: Do something nice for yourself - add new ideas

            This week, I:

            1. Took a nice, hot, long, bubble bath.

            2. Enjoyed some alone time with my son by taking him to a parade and out to lunch.

            3. Went shopping, all by my lonesome.

            4. Put a clay mask on my face (feels fresh and smooth)

            5. Painted my toenails.

            6. Rubbing Dove firming lotion on my thighs and belly every single night. (Don't know if it will help, but it certainly won't hurt).

            7. Getting my hair washed, cut and styled at the salon today.

Ahhh, feeling relaxed just reading it.

haha, no kidding! I'm pretty lucky though....my DH knows that I DO need my personal time and will often take all the kids and give me a few hours to myself....and as for going out...if I'm pulling my hair out, I'll head off to chapters for a book off their 'discount' rack and a nice starbucks coffee...hehe

Re: Do something nice for yourself - add new ideas

See if you can find 15-30 minutes of quiet time. I like dawn or sunset time. Make yourself a cool, refreshing drink (see below) and sit outside, enjoying the sights and sounds of the world coming alive or slowing down.

It's almost surreal, I find, and gives me a sense of quiet and centered-ness that can help me make it thru the most hectic day or evening.

                        Drinks to try:

Apricot tea. (not peach, apricot) Add a mint leaf. Pour over ice. Drink in a goblet.

Fill a wine or champagne glass with chilled club soda. Add sugar-free syrup (I like black cherry or raspberry). Add a dash of cream if you like.

Fruit-flavored diet rite soda ideas: (I like raspberry, but there are scads of flavors)

                        1. Pour into a tall glass. Add ice and a bit of cream.

                        2. Pour into a tupperware or other freezer container. Put in freezer. Every 1/2 hour, take out, shake, return to freezer. When it's slushy, pour into a goblet. Yummy!

This is such an inspiring post. Thanks for starting it Finelly

                            i buy books to read.

One of the things I like to do is to make a treat out of atkins friendly food. Not a reward, but just a 'something nice to do for myself' type of thing.

The other day I went out and bought prosciutto, piave cheese (kind of like parmesan), big fat green cerignola olives, cornichons and asparagus. I had that for dinner 2 nights in a row and used the leftovers for stuffed chicken breasts. And BOY was it good!

I do'nt really know what else I do - I make sure to take the time to see my friends, I do'nt know if that counts though!

Re: Do something nice for yourself - add new ideas

Okay, I have a weird one. I love to use nice linens. My most relaxing time is sitting in my big chair with my water on one of my pretty linens. I usually shop at Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn, but I only buy ONE! So, use those great goblets and pretty glasses and set them on your best linens. One other thing I do for myself is read non-fiction. I love, love, love to read fiction novels. Usually, Dean Koontz or Jonathan Kellerman type books, but to treat myself (I know it is a stretch to call it a treat) I will buy off the sale rack a non-fiction book that I would never normally read. I always feel great afterward. Something interesting and educational. This improves the overall me. I do this about once every six months.
