Hi everyone I am new to the board. This is my second go round at this and I am NOT losing. WHY? I have heard the theorys but I am losing motivation due to the lack of weight movement. I know it's about health but I REALLY want to lose. Please, give me some advice about kicking this thing into gear so I can drop the lbs. I have been on it for 5 almost 6 week and 5lbs of water and nothing else. What can I do??? Please help second timers I need some support!!! Thanks.
Hi, I'm new to these boards but this is my second try at Atkins. In 2004, I lost 28 lbs., going from 188 to 160 but after that, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't lose another ounce! I was sticking to the diet but was eating TOO MANY CALORIES. Calories DO count! I'm only 5'2" and all that fat was adding up, so this time, I'm doing low calorie, high fat. The problem was that at first I could eat 1800 calories and still lose but I got so used to that level that I couldn't cut back as my weight got lower. This time will be different because I'm counting both fat grams and calories. I have to, to succeed.
As for exercise, I've been walking on an ellipitcal machine for a month and a half, despite the fact the my left foot isn't completely healed from reconstructive surgery last Nov. I had the right one done a year ago, so I've been laid up for some time now. I've found that watching Richard Simmons 'Sweatin to the Oldies' while on the machine makes it easier to keep going.
I'm really enjoying the support here. You guys are wonderful! Thanks.

A little encouragement, please... this is my third time on Atkins. I've been on for one week. I lost five pounds, right off the bat, and am now back up to exactly where I started. I think I may be eating too many vegetables this time. Before, my inductions consisted of almost all protein. This time, though, I've been eating veggies and salad every day.
Would it be smart to cut down on the veggies for a day or two to see what happens? There has been no cheating -- though I haven't measured my carbs exactly -- just made sure to eat a little bit of cooked veggies and salad each day.
Any input?
Thanks!

Hi Peachykeen 62:
If you're on induction you should be getting 12 -15 net carbs/day from veggies alone. Have you ever used FitDay to keep track? It's a great site, and you can set up a free account. Here's a link to a thread from these boards that'll explain a lot: FitDay
Keeping your percentages of fat, protein and carbs around the recommended 65%, 30% and 5% respectively makes a difference.
Give that a look see and try out Fitday~~let me know how you make out!

My body feels as if it's changing -- for sure. And, believe it or not, in one week my sciatica issue is clearing up. I don't have it chronically, but I've been experiencing it for the past few months.
I just get discouraged when I weigh myself.
Can you tell me how to do that ticker factory thing? I've gotten as far as designing it, but I don't know how to transfer it to my signature.
Thanks!

Hi
If you're using TickerFactory.com, you create your ticker and when it's the way you want it, there's a box that says, "bbCode". You highlight the text that's in that box, copy it, come to this board, go to your Edit Signature box, right click and paste. Then preview and see if it's there. It should work!
As for the sciatica....do you have a diagnosis for what's causing it? It's pretty horrible isn't it? I had it bad for quite a few months and I ended up going to a massage therapist. She worked on me steady for a couple of weeks and finally got the muscle affected to release, and I was good for a long time after that.
The other thing I was going to tell you is that your scales are not your friend...put your scales away and get out your measuring tape. If you have a weigh-in twice a month or something like that, it'll be a lot less stressful for you. You will lose inches (and a lot of them) before you lose a lot of pounds. Please don't get caught up in what the scales say...it's just another stressor that none of us need. I take my measurements once a week and go by the fit of my clothes.
Let me know how you're doing~~I check in every day usually.
By the way, I was wondering if I could pick your brains and others' brains as well. I've been following the induction rules religiously (at least I think) for nine days, and I have not yet experienced ketosis.
I know what it's like, and no sign of it yet.
The weight, which had gone down five, keeps going back up, and then down a pound, and then up a pound...
I know that inches can matter as much as pounds, but even when it's just inches coming off, shouldn't I be experiencing signs of ketosis?

You know...I've been giving some thought to why things fell apart the first time. I think mostly it was a lack of support from my family. I was feeling awful and sick all the time and I think my family thought that it was due this WOE, when really I had underlying medical issues. It REALLY didn't help when I started losing hair (my doctor attributes this to quick weight loss and it's completely normal apparently. Anyone else experience this?
