Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Hi lilblackdress - I have started today as well. I always have an excuse not to start....so I just said the heck with it. I have a get together this weekend with my girlfriends, so that is going to be a problem....I have to just stick with it, but I know there are going to be drinks which lead to eating carbs the next day. So I may just have to stop in and say hello and then be on my way....if not, it won't be good.....Wish me luck. I really have to lose this weight....Good job avoiding the pizza today!!! Keep up the good work...

Functions are my hard things and saying no to the drink during social hour if there is one. But I have to be strong.

Here is a question: what made you choose Atkins over South Beach?

I'm in the same boat - lost about 25 lbs. 6 years ago and gained it all back - I started on 8/17 before I saw this post, so I'd like to join in, please! Thank you.

Well, I feel a bit foolish. I was referred to as one of the ladies. I am actually a guy (the picture is a fat guy). I was cracking up. Anyways, as much as I wanted to eat Chinese today, I went and had a salad. I actually feel full so good for now. I will drink an Atkins shake and lots of water until dinner time.

          Good luck ladies (all)...

Well it sure sounds like we are all starting out very strong and committed...
Well this is the end of day 2..
Tania, why not try a LC shake for breakfast, you can be so creative and drink it on the way to work..
The mock danish is pretty quick..Grab a few slices of ham or make the ham roll ups the night before and you can eat in the car....

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

                Hello group,

                Eisakkha- sorry for the confusion!

Kathie68 - i have the same problem. when i drink the next day i am on a carb binge altogether. I have weakness for grilled sandwiches with lots of cheese (my mouth just started watering as i even type it..lol)

Yesterday i made lots of tuna+egg salad with green peppers and green onions. It actually tastes pretty good. I guess i am going to eat it for breakfast couple of days this week. But i like the idea of ham roll ups. Thats my next option. Thanks kerri.

Someone asked a question about why choose Atkins over South Beach. Personally i feel south beach confuses me....it has a lot of options for carbs and also it has restrictions (Eg. no chicken thigh and legs, no butter).......so i am often hungry and i overdose on carbs......i feel it works like a low calorie diet....which never works for me.

As far exercise is concerned, I had a hard time doing cardio this morning.......45 mins spinning and 15 mins of elleptical machine.....but i did it(yaay!).......the headache is back again......does exercise give u headache on Atkins......anyone had a similar experience?

I am scared of the weekend.....whenever its friday night, i feel i have to reward myself or something.....and i am down 3 glasses of white wine.....then the binge triggers....and the entire weekend becomes a carb binge.....GOT to stop this weekend.

                Hope we all stay strong.

No, you haven't "stalled" your Induction. The end results (when you determine your metabolic resistance) might be slightly skewed, but you will definitely keep losing weight.

Ditch the chickpeas until you reach OWL Rung 6 and finish your 14-day Induction by following the rules in the book.

Don't forget to take body measurements too. Happy losing!

OK, I am on Day 2.....I did great yesterday. I actually did a nice walk too....My legs are achy already, is that normal? My hardest time is the evening. I work until 9pm then come home and the munching begins....I am going food shopping today, so I will be prepared. Good luck everyone....I am determined!

Kudos to you for exercising! It's not the exercise that's causing the headaches, but the "Induction flu". It takes your body some time to adapt from using glucose as fuel to using fat, so for (typically) 1-2 days you will feel a bit crummy. Hang in there and you'll feel great soon, and likely have more energy than you had before starting Atkins.

I am scared of the weekend.....whenever its friday night, i feel i have to reward myself or something.....and i am down 3 glasses of white wine.....then the binge triggers....and the entire weekend becomes a carb binge.....GOT to stop this weekend.
It's okay to reward you, not only on Friday night, but even every day. With every "legal" bite you take, you are rewarding yourself with better health and a slimmer figure. That is the kind of reward you need (and might be different from what your brain asks for), not something that will make feel guilty, disappointed, frustrated and that will likely interfere with your weight loss and even throw you off Atkins. You can also reward yourself with a nice bath, a good book, a fantastic Atkins-friendly dinner, some new clothes for the slimmer you, a movie you always wanted to see, etc.

Write down why you want to do Atkins, write down your goals, plan your success and how you are going to deal with temptations (they will never go away; you are the one that needs to learn how to resist them). Drink water so that you don't confuse thirst with hunger and have some "legal" snack with you at all times, wherever you are. Read the book. Know the why's and how's of Atkins. And if you ever stumble, just hop back on Atkins with your next bite.

It's pretty common. As I told Tania, it takes some time until your body has enough fatty acids, more mitochondria and the chemicals it needs to effectively get energy from fat. In terms of physical performance, most people feel better after the first 1-2 weeks. Make sure you take your vitamins and choose nutritious foods.

Good for you to plan for your "night munching" issue. If you are not hungry, try not to snack unless absolutely necessary (i.e. the point where you go, "Oh boy, I'd gonna eat a whole chocolate bar if I don't eat that cheese stick now!"). Understand why you are "munching" and try to come up with a strategy rather than continue a bad habit, even if it's low carb foods you are eating. Georgiana - Thank you so much for your support. You are truely awesome. Appreciate this so much.

Wht kind of supplements is one supposed to take on Atkins? Currently i am taking multivitamin at night. What is the use of L-carnitine? Does anyone have a clue? Should i be taking it since i am exercising?

I am only taking a multivitamin and have no problems exercising. Some people take essential oils or chromium in addition to their multivitamin. You should discuss with your doctor to see if you need additional supplements. You might need extra iron or potassium.

L-carnitine only needs to be taken if you are having trouble losing weight. Carnitine has a role in fat metabolism --- it is used in the transport of fatty acids across the mitochondria membrane. Unless you are carnitine deficient, taking L-carnitine will not help. And you can also find carnitine in foods, beef being the richest in it.
