Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

I did make it two days so far no weighing, no wine, no nuts...I'm remembering how to cook, dinner mushroom/spinach/gouda cheese stuffed pork tenderloin, steamed broccoli and califlower (I'm tired of salad). Still only have one workout in for the week though. Welcome to the newcomers and I hope everyone has a good day.

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Tania thanks for posting, got busy with meetings and work so hadn't had a chance to post. I guess I wrote it wrong to it is faux potatoes - got all brain mushed because I was thinking cauliflower..lol

Did well yesterday with food and water. Today will be challenging with confirmatin picnic tonight and no time after work and before it to eat. Hopefully there will be something if not I will just have burger no bun and eat when I get home. Maybe someone will be good and bring veggies.

Off to get ready for work, need to get caught up on laundry so its down to the icky clothes left in closet..lol When I get down another 20 pounds I will have LOTS of new clothes to wear that I have kept from before. Can't wait!

Caught up on the previous posts and Congrats to all who lost last week.

      Have a great day everyone.

What can i say? I had a glass of white wine yesterday. Was too stressed at work.....14 hr day and then dinner with team.....just couldnt help it but i was good about food choices, ate grilled chicken with a side of steamed zucchini! I am such a weakling!

Am i kicked out of induction? do i have to re-start again?

I am feeling so bloody low now.......i wonder if i can really even do this.

        Thanks for listening.

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Tania - Others may differ but I have read on other boards and just my own opinion that it is ok as long as you don't do frequently and get right back on track. I faltered a bit the first week so I might just extend the induction eating a bit. This is a life learning process and I have to listen to what I say also in that don't beat yourself up just move on. You have to do what you feel is right for you and your peace of mind.

Its learning a new and soon you can add things back such as a glass of wine. I know that is my weakness also, except mine isn't wine it is a brandy while making supper with my dh. Habits are hard to break. Anything new that you can do for 6 weeks will become habit I have heard. So water instead of brandy will become a habit.

Thanks lilblackdress, this is very helpful. I loved your comment 'Anything new that you can do for 6 weeks will become habit'. Here's to a new habit (water)!

I am back on track again. I love this forum....and can i just say...you guys are awesome!

Cant believe the week is almost over.......another weekend and the fear is creeping in already.....specially after what happened yesterday......but still keeping the faith.

lisa1 - Welcome to the group! Since you are on day 4 you are probably going through the induction flu (i had horrendous headaches for my 3, 4 and 5 day) but trust me its gonna go very soon. For motivation, headaches mean that you are on the right track....so just hang in there.

              Cheers!

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Confession time for me - tonight was the confirmation picnic I went to it right from work so no time to eat or anything for me. I was hoping there would be something low carb friendly. Well only low carb friendly was a grilled hotdog. So being hungry I gave in and had a few things that were not low carb friendly. Typical picnic fair. Anyway so after we got done eating I was instantly THIRSTY and my heart started racing and I felt down right bloated and yucky. There was a group of ladies sitting around the table and I said to one oh I am full and I don't usually eat sweet and such and now my body is on sugar rush. There was this lady across the table that was listening in and the look she gave me up and down was like "sure you don't eat I can see from your size you do"

Well, first I am confessing to my weakness tonight and second of all that I was committed to this but not like I was when I did it years ago. But with all of you who I couldn't stop thinking about and how good and committed you are. Between you all and that look she gave me sparked the drive in me that I needed to get totally committed and do this. I will show that lady. I can't say bad as we were just at a church event .. but.

I am it doing this for a healthier me. I was at one time 296 and I do not want to be back in the 200's.

So, with confession and determination I move on. I am n ot thinking of it as starting over as then I feel failure and I don't want to feel that so I am just going to extend induction. And remember the yucky feeling after the carbs..blah

Hope everyone had a good day!

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Okay, not only did I step on the scale this am (when I was going to wait 'till Monday), I had 3 oz of red wine. I did well with my food however and did get 30 min of cardio in today. Tomorrows another day...anybody going on with induction past next week? I'm thinking about it.

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

lilblackdress - I totally understand how you feel. I have been in the same situation before. I think its great that you take it in a positive stride. Think about how her jaws are gonna drop when you drop the weight. Ha ha!

As for me, i dont know why, my weight has stalled. 170 and not moving an inch. Confession time - i have been secretly weighing myself every morning for the past 3 days and how is it possible that my weight doesn't drop. Maybe its that stupid glass of wine. I really need to push past this.(Grrrrr....so frustrating). It happens to me all the time. If i am at a certain weight for a long time, my body doesnt want to lose for more than 4-5 lbs. Does this happen with anyone else??

So as a result i am extending induction for another week coz i have no option. This time i am determined to lose the weight. So will not give in.

Tanja and lilblackdress - i am with you guys for extending induction.

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

I've been doing fitday everyday to track my carbs and calories. No more weight loss yet after a good first week. I have to increase my calories without increasing my carbs. Last time I went into a stall I think because I wasn't getting enough calories in the day from fat and protein. TOM started last night (a WEEK early!) and my DH steps on the scale (who sort of follows the plan and CHEATS all the time) says to me "hey I'm down 7 lbs this week". Okay....where is the justice. I am a nurse and on my feet all day and he works a sit down job. On the plus side I was able to not eat the bread sticks without feeling deprived last night and passed up chocholate that were being passed around. It's much easier now than a week and a half ago. I can't break the scale habit. I didn't participate in the forum last time around this thread is really helping thanks all you guys...I am going to be extending my induction another week. Have a great day everyone.

Does your weight stall if u eat too less? How is that possible? Does someone know the reason behind this?

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

I have no idea how that works with eating more and losing???

I keep wondering to myself do I continue on and just have better days or call it induction. Not sure I am making that clear.. I know what I am thinking but can't seem to put it in writing..lol friday brainfart

I weigh myself quite a bit, not as much as I use to which was daily but now just when I think of it and of course every wednesday I do.

Tania - yea I can't wait to show her .. hey whatever it takes for motivation right??

TanJa - I know I hate that some men seem to lose weight so easy. That is just not fair. But it catches up with them.

I know I lose slow and I have learned from experience that slow keeps it off fast it comes back. So I will take slow even though I have gained back some weight now but it has been three years since I did atkins. Have been on every other diet inbetween. I like atkins cuz I don't count anything or weigh anything that is not me at all.

OMG....I have been sooooo tempted these past couple of days. I have not given in, which I am suprised, but I dont remember feeling this tempted in the past. Tomorrow is my daughters birthday party, that is going to be tough because we are having pizza and cake, and of course chips, dip etc.......I am going to have to make something for myself, or I will slip...Wish me luck!

Thats a tough day lots of temptations, eat before, have something "legal" to snack on, keep a drink of water in your hands. Send the leftovers home with the guests. Just some suggestions. You only have to make it through one day. I'll be thinking about you. Happy birthday wishes to your daughter remember you're doing this for her too. Having a healthy mom is the best birthday present.

Re: Re-starting induction aug 17th......anyone wants to join?

Did I miss the party? I see you gals had a nice glass of wine.

Wine will stop your weight loss, because your body will need to metabolize all the alcohol before it goes back to burning mainly fat. You will hear some people saying they lost weight after drinking alcohol, but that is only water loss (not fat) caused by alcohol. Also, if any of you is testing for ketosis using ketostix, it's pointless to test after drinking, because the reagent on the ketostix will react with the products of alcohol metabolism and that will turn the stix pink; but the pink won't be due to ketones (fat burning), so it means nothing. If you miss having an occasional glass of wine, better move to OWL and add alcohol back, in moderation (remember it stops weight loss), in OWL Rung 5.

Someone here asked how eating more can help one lose weight. If you do not eat enough, you are not giving your body sufficient energy and sufficient nutrients/micronutrients to run efficiently. If your average caloric intake is below your body's needs for a longer time (I'm not talking about one low calorie day), your metabolism shifts into starvation mode and starts to conserve energy (this includes that fat on your tummy, thighs, etc.). Overeating, on the other hand, will not help you lose weight either. That's why it's important to eat just enough food to feel satisfied, without getting stuffed. It takes some practice to find that point.

Other than not giving your body enough energy, eating too little can create vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies will slow down weight loss, by making it difficult for your body to create the necessary chemicals to mobilize body fat. So, besides eating enough to avoid feeling hungry (or every 6-hours, if you don't feel hungry after 6 hours without a meal), you need to choose foods wisely (nutritious, varied) in order to give the body the necessary vitamins/minerals.

I see some of you are considering extending your Induction. You should remember that doing a longer that two weeks Induction may help those who are very metabolically resistant (you should all determine your degree of metabolic resistance based on your Induction weight loss and using the charts in DANDR). But if someone is not very resistant to lipolysis or has little weight to lose (20-40 lbs), Dr. Atkins said it's better to move to OWL, so that you have time to progress through all the phases of Atkins by the time you reach goal.

Oh, and when you determine your degree of metabolic resistance, if you cheated during the first two weeks, your resistance will likely be overestimated. So keep that in mind.

For the birthday party. Instead of chips, you can make cheese crackers and flax wafers (remember flax is limited to 1 tbsp per day during Induction). The dip shouldn't be a big deal. What about some guacamole? Instead of having sugary cake, make a cheesecake. It's quick and many recipes are "legal" for Induction. And instead of carby pizza, you can have cauliflower pizza. Here are some recipes:

Have veggies, cheese and some meat on a plate, so that there is something you can snack on (try not to eat unless hungry though). You can also make things like bacon-wrapped asparagus (recipe: Food Junkie: Meat: Bacon wrapped asparagus & Bacon wrapped water chestnut), deviled eggs or jalapeno poppers (recipe: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes). No reason to feel deprieved or go hungry on Atkins. Happy Birthday to your daughter!
