    I can't wait to try this! I could boil up a smoked ham hock and start out the same way I'd normally start out a split pea soup, right?

      Moochie you can boil a ham hock for the stock in the faux split pea soup. It will taste even more like split pea soup that way. And you can cook it exactly like how you would cook real split pea soup. The recipe I gave is the "quickie" way to do it. Sauteeing the veggies before adding the broth is a short cut to get the approximate amount of flavor as the more traditional longer cooking method.

      Oh yeah, this soup freezes well.
