Welcome to ha ! This forum is pretty easy to navigate. You will get the hang of it the more you visit! :yes

Well, for starters, you should definitely read the book. After that, do some grocery shopping for the items you need. Clean out your house of bad carbs (if possible, if not, stash those things away from your foods so that you will not get the urge to eat them when you see them), get your supplements and vitamins (check out the Vita Nutrient/Supplements forum), plan your meals ahead of time so you can keep track of your carbs, get an account at www.fitday.com to track your nutritional intake (as well as exercise, weight loss, etc.), get an account at www.mybodycomp.com to track your BMI and inches lost...

... and the most important thing, you!

Book... Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition.

DO NOT invest in the Atkin's Nutritionals books, since they were all published AFTER Dr. A's passing and are just advertisements for the products.

The book recommended on this board is
Dr Atkins New Diet Recolution published 2002 (aka DANDR 2002) (the UK edition was published in 2003 btw)

Also you could read the postings in the FAQ forum here

Right at the bottom of that page are two posts vital for anyone starting induction to read and remember - about the rules for induction and list of what you can eat when on induction.

yYu could also visit the Atkins site www.atkins.com but be warned thay do suggest you buy their products which are not all suitable for induction, so check if they are suitable for the phase of Atkins you are in before wasting monay buying them - you can easily do induction by buying normal foods!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

If I can help any of the newbies, just send me a PM. I have been doing this WOE for 2years now. Lost 41 pounds, and have maintained my weight for over a year.
I will be supportive. but be warned I am a by the book person for induction, and as the former commander of boot camp here I tend to really frown on the franken foods.
Really I will be very supportive, but want you to know I will tell it like it is.

What types of frankenfoods are you consuming? If you can stick with a clean induction for just 2 weeks, you will be able to eliminate the cravings and you will find that it is easier for you to pass on the extra sweeteners and frankenfoods. All you need is 2 weeks, which I am sure you will be able to do, once you get started.

As far as your sweetener goes, try switching to liquid stevia. It has no carbs and, therefore, no limit on the amount you can have. It only takes a little to make your coffee as sweet as you like it, without the guilt!

The importance of doing a clean induction is to eliminate your cravings and to rid your body of the foods that have caused you cravings in the past. Doing induction in correlation with supplements does help to kick cravings to the curb! :yes A couple of great supplements to take that will help you suppress those cravings are L-Glutamine (5g each time you have a craving) and chromium picolinate (1000mcg daily).

I am confident that you can do this. Now all that's needed here is your confidence and will-power to do an absolutely clean induction!

          Happy New Year!

Wow! Thanks for such a great response and I'll definitely look into those supplements and alternative sweetener to help me kick the cravings while I grudually ween myself off artificial sweeteners.

          Thanks so much!

:yikes I am new to this. i am 30 years old and 5ft 1 in. 180 lbs. I have done atkins before and lost about 10 lbs. before re addicting myself to carbs. I am ready and no fooling around this time. I am tired of it hurting to bend over and tie my shoes and getting out of breath when I go up stairs to get my kids ready for school. I am on my 3rd day of induction. I was up peeing all night and had bad leg cramps. I wasn't going to weigh again for awhile, but after peeing all night I decided what the heck. I was down to 177. Hopefully the leg cramps won't last long. I need lots of encouragement. I was up til 2 am reading lots of the success stories for encouragement. I would like a weight loss buddy. Greetings and Happy New Year to Everyone.

Well, i am not necessarily a newbie to Atkins but i am restarting atkins today and have 9 weeks to lose as many lbs and inches i can before seeing a friend i haven't seen in years!!!!! I am calling it my 9 weeks of ****. lol So i could use a mentor or 2 or 3 because well.. just because!

The way i am going to do this is the following: following induction strict, rereading the book, starting to exercise, and get in weight lifting for toning purposes, trying to keep cals between 1000 and 1200 for the next 9 weeks and drink 100 oz of water a day

My biggest problems are the following:
I will make every excuse in the book not to exercise, i mean silly ones like.. i don't have any music etc. This morning, i decided Monday was going to be my "Free" day.

My other problem is Dinner. I usually get home after 7 and am completely exhausted and choose easy, delivery please or pick up dinners. I am going to begin cooking meals during the weekends and then just throwing them in the microwave.

Weekends tend to fall under the WORST days for me because i don't have work that is a priority, if that makes sense.

Soo this is me. Desperate to lose as many inches and lbs i can in 9 weeks.. and then (total of 70-90 lbs hopefully) by 4th of July and if i have any left of the 90 by November 11th i want to be at goal.

BTW for those asking about caffine.... caffine triggers hunger ques So its partly why you should ween yourself off of it as soon as you can.

I am reachable through the following: PMs on here, messages on here, barely_n_angel on Yahoo Messenger (Please state who you are and where you are from in the message or i will ignore the request to add) and barely_n_angel@yahoo.com.

I am looking for mentors, but i can also dish out advice as i do know atkins pretty well, just never follow my own advice lol.

                    thanks all.. :angel angel :angel

                        :wave

                        Hi everyone...

I've just started back on the Atkins Diet, and I'm going to stick with it.

Back a few years ago, I lost 30 lbs. on this plan.
Sorry to say, I got back into my old ways of eating again.

It seems that I use food to medicate myself with.
                        I would eat and sleep.
                        That felt natural to me.

But, now I'm sick and tired of dragging this weight around.
I can hardly bend over to clip my toenails of tie my shoes....Very sad :no .
I want more out of life.
I started induction on the 1st of 2005.
                        Weighing 190.
I would like to lose 50 lbs.

                        Please help ...
I need encouragement and someone to help me to stay on track.

                        Thanks, Suzanne

I am trying to add my photos. I hope this works. Anyway these are me at a wedding Oct. 2nd. I just got these pictures from a family member and about fell over. I couldn't believe how big I am. I must have a magic mirror at home and I didn't see this person before. But this is the beginning of my 4th day and I feel great! :nod

Hello, I'd like to help out in anyway I can. While I'm not a newbie (started 4/18/04 and have lost a little over 50 pounds), I am in no way even close to being an expert. I still learn things everyday on this board.

A little about me, I now seem to be losing weight slowly and have experienced several weight loss stalls along the way. But I always persevere and work through these stalls.

You can PM me, I check my PMs here at work. Some days are busier for me than others, so it may take a little time for me to respond.

:wave I am the same height and weight, but 37 yrs old. Today was my first day of induction...I too am ready for a life change. I have gradually gained weight over the years, and the weight gain has pretty much made me miserable. My goal is 118-120lbs...I can only imagine how great it would feel to be at that weight.
Good Luck to you! We can do it!

                                Hi all,

I've finally started posting after lurking here for a while. I'm on my 9th day of induction and while I don't see the weight loss, i'm pretty deep in Ketosis so i'm excited about the prospect. I've recently started working out again so i'm finally feeling the energy level come back.

I would like a mentor. I think my big issue will be the transition out of inductino, which I plan on continuing through January. Not because i've cheated, but because once you get past the cravings, inductino flu and general crummy feelings, its pretty easy to stay on and the Deli across from my office is very Atkins friendly.

I will need a mentor for transition, and while I've bought and read DANDR I need more than the book to help me with day to day food transitions and general support. I can be PM'd as gypj or IM'd on Yahoo as gypsy8125. Thanks in advance.
