    Newbie Here

    I just started on Monday. It does seem like an easy diet to follow so far. I have lost 4 pounds so far.

      Hi, Thats great you have lost 4 pounds. I'm having a little trouble with making me a menu since I don't like most of the foods on the introduction.
      What is your menu like if you don't mind sharing.

        It definitely sounds like you have a case of induction flu. The best thing to do is to increase your water intake a bit and try to cope. It will pass soon. If the shakes don't stop, try eating a fatty snack.

          hi everyone

          It's 4:00 in the morning and I just can't sleep. I have been up just thinking about my life and how much of it I feel I have lost but not being able to completley enjoy myself and feel happiness to the fullest within myself. I also just relized I have drank 6 bottles of water today. Which I am proud of but I have been to the bathroom like every five minutes...lol
          The more I read this board and continue to self relize I know I'm going to make it with my goal to lose weight. :nod

              For breakfest I have been eating the adkins breakfest bars. I like the Cinnamon Bun ones. Sometimes I dont even eat breakfest. For lunch I might have a salad. Sometimes take some turkey breast and a slice of cheese and a little mayo and roll it up. Have a adkins bar for a snack in the afternoon. I like the Smores bars. Hersey's now has a low carb chocolate bar. One bar has only one gram of carbs in it. For dinner have some type of meat with green beans or a salad or just some colby cheese or tomato slices. If I feel hungry in the evening might have some cheese and pepperoni or and adkins bar. I drink water, tea with splenda or caffiene free diet dr. pepper. I am very picky eater and dont like a lot of the foods on induction so I try and not have many salads with every meal. I get bored with that so try to have something different every night. Taco salad is good too. Hope this helps some.

                Lora, if you are on induction, you should try to stay away from the Atkins bars. Also, you shouldn't be skipping any meals, its important to go no more than 6 hours without eating something.

                  My first few nights I couldn't sleep either. it was like a rush of energy, plus I was excited about changing my life and all the peeing. You CAN do this. Take it minute by minute hour by hour if you have to. I just ended my first week of induction today and am down 8 pounds. No turning back now! I finished 9 glasses of water yesterday for the first time. They are right, when you drink a lot of water you feel great. Also, the constant peeing has finally tapered off. I treat this like a drug detox because I am such a carb addict. Having this help available to me 24-7 has helped so much. Now I have something to do if I get a craving, which I haven't had since day 3.

                    Floydgirl is right. Those snack bars are not fit for induction. They contain sugar alcohols which tend to stall or slow down weight loss. Also, if you are consuming these bars and you don't run to the bathroom immediately after doing so, you will have to count ALL the sugar alcohol carbs towards your consumed carbs for the day!!!! That would definitely put you over the 20g carb limit a day! So, save the bars for a more suitable phase, such as later on in OWL!

                      I am relatively new to the ha . I started induction on Moday anad have lost 5#. I am waiting until inuction is over to re-measure. I think that will be the "real" measure of my success todate.

                      I have been very strict with induction, and have been using Fitday.com
                      I know that most if not all of the LC foods are not allowed during induction, even the Atkins ones. What is the deal with the shakes? I don't have a sweet tooth, but my DH does! He is really struggling. Can he have one to help wean himself?

                      I know also from reading the book, and lurking on the board that aspartame is bad. But what drinks are made with Splenda? I just found a lemonade made with it, but I'm wondering about fizzie drinks...

                      I wish everyone success on their new path :icondance

                        I know this board doesn't advocate akins foods (Frankenfoods) etc during induction, but the list in the book does say... you can OCCASSSIONALLY utilize induction friendly frankenfoods, such as shakes. If your husband is struggling badly, i don't see the harm in him having a shake occassionally to ward off cravings. He may find himself stalling though Also, check the recipes. There is ALOT of stuff you can make doing induction foods from the list that will help with sweet tooths.

                        RC is the soda made with splenda, if that helps. Also, liquid crystal light.

                        Hope that helps.

                          Diet Rite is made with splenda as well as the canned Crystal Light.

                          As for your DHs sweet tooth, it's best if he sticks with induction as strictly as possible. Doing the 14 days will help detox his body and he will have less cravings. My suggestion if he still has cravings (also on induction), 5g L-Glutamine and 1000mcg chromium picolinate. These 2 supplements are great in keeping the sweet tooth tamed! :yes

                          Congrats on your 5lbs loss!!!!

                            Foods

                            I was just wondering if anyone would have any simple recipes. I don't like peppers,onions,tomatos, anything of that sort. For dinner I had a bowl of eggs with bacon ,sausage and a little cheese. And drank my water. So I don't suppose I'm really asking for simple recipes since peppers, tomatos and such would be more simpler if I could just eat the stuff but if there is anyone out there who has some recipes and eats like me please let me know.

                              Newbie needs mentor :help

                              I would love to have a mentor check with me daily coach me if anyone is available.

                              I am a 35 year old male (as of January 6th to be exact) who will be starting Atkins on Monday by my lonesome with a less than cooperative wife. She works evenings, so I'm on my own cooking wise and need all the help I can get with easy, inexpensive recipes.

                              Here are my #s:
                              Height: 5'7"
                              Weight: 205
                              Goal: I'm thinking about 175 but what do you all think?

                              GTT:
                              fast = 118
                              1 hr = 211
                              2 hr = 194
                              3 hr = 142

                              Triglyceride : 176
                              Tot chol = 230
                              HDL = 47
                              LDL=148 (md wants it 80-100)
                              chol/hdlc ratio = 4.9

                              TSH fine
                              liver functions fine

                              My doctor is giving me 6 weeks to "try" atkins before he puts me on Liipitor so I have do do good and I'm psyched / motivated to do good.

                              I REALLY wanted to get into boot camp but I understand there's going to be a waiting list, so if someone who''s led boot camp wants to maybe give me a private version, that would be fine as well. I love to read/research and do homework.

                              Any help would be appreciated.

                              for email, you can use mysterybrad@pollinacomputing.com

                                Welcome to ha bpollina!

                                I would be happy to help you out in any way I can.

                                First, make sure you read the book.

                                Second, Atkinize your home! Since you share your living space with others, you can stash all the carb-loaded foods in one specified place, and your Atkins-friendly foods in another, as far away from the tempting carbs as possible.

                                Third, make sure you follow a strict induction. If it's not on the list, don't eat/drink it. I've also noticed alot of people drink sodas during induction. It's best to save them for after your first 2 weeks. The importance of doing a strict induction is to ween you from the carbs that have gotten you to this point in the first place and to control your cravings.

                                Fourth, make sure to take your supplements. Buy a multivitamin (minus the iron, such as one-a-day carb smart or atkins basic 3), omega-3 supplements (fish oil or flax seed oil), etc. Also make sure to read the section on Nutritional Supplements in DANDR. There is a section in there that suggests supplements to target certain medical problems. This will be helpful in lowering your numbers and avoiding having to take medication prescribed by your doctor. There are also helpful supplements in that section to help you control certain cravings.

                                Feel free to PM me. I am usually logged on all day, so I usually respond quickly.

                                Happy low-carbing! :wave
