I have been doing induction for 36 days today. I am still refusing to get on the scale because I do not want to obsess over the lbs. I was on atkings about 10 years ago and I would weigh every day and when I did not lose for a few days i would get discouraged and say screw it. I don't want to go there this time.

I am using ketostix and have been in ketosis since day 3. My energy level exploded on days 4-5 and has yet to slack off. I feel fantastic and I have had to poke new holes in my belts in order to hold up my pants that are now falling off (lol). My wife hugged me the other day and she got excited that she could put her arms all the way around me and hold her hands together (woo hoo)

I wear dress clothes and a tie to work every day and prior to starting induction I could hardly button the top button on my shirts to put a tie on and now my shirts button easily and I have room to spare. I am focusing on how good I feel and how my clothes are fitting rather than how many lbs I have lost. I know that if I am still in ketosis and if my clothes are getting too big that its working.

    Any advice or response appreciated.

    Great job Tim,
I'm 54 days into the program and lost 42 lbs. as of today. You are right in saying that the main thing is to stay with the program. I weigh at the same time every day in the morning. ONE TIME! In the last 3 weeks I've lost 13 lbs (4,4,5) and I've added a "little" bit more carbs to spice up the diet and have had a couple of days when I had a rounded meal w/ bread and potatos. My weight may not change for a day or two and then BAM 2 lbs or more. I don't know why this is but I accept that it's the way things are working. I had one wk end when I gained 3 lbs. and I know why!! But I quickly went to work and lost that and 4 more by the end of the week. The scales help me govern what's acceptable and what's not. I certainly understand why they can be a problem but when you know you're doing right, the scales will always support you and encourage you in the end. God bless and keep up the work!

Tim, I waited until I had 30 days in as well.

Wanna know why it is important to get weighed soon? To inspire others! You have likely shed a good bit of weight with this great induction. That needs to be shared so that the guy or girl with 1 day on Atkins can see your weight loss numbers and think "**** yeah! If Tim did it, I can do it too!".

Stay with this board and these people, they are winners. They will tell you when to use a scale...or a tape measure. Sometimes neither of those works, but you'll be telling us how simply awesome you FEEL on a daily basis now.

Get a scale Personally, I look forward to seeing your numbers!

Yeppers I think Im going to ditch the scale! It makes me depressed if my weight fluctuates.Even though I know this happens it still messes with my head.

Re: 36 days on induction and I refuse to weigh

I told my husband that I'm putting the scale away and will bring it out only on weigh in days, cause he weighs himself every day and because it's a digital scale and highly sensitive, he will get on 2 or 3 times in 5 minutes!! It's ridiculous. So after my son weighs himself today, the scale will disappear. Hopefully he isn't too upset.

Re: 36 days on induction and I refuse to weigh

I use the scale as a constant incentive. If I'm up a pound, I'll get MAD and do an extra hour a the gym plus do another review of my food. My body knows if it doesn't want me to drop a hammock at the gym and live there, it better drop some weight this week.

If I'm down, I get excited and happy and do extra at the gym.

Either way, it's a fueling source, and inspiration for my day. Just another way of looking at that scale!
            What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
            2 filtered containers water/day
            Daily salads/veggies

            Goals:

Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
            Workout in a XXXL shirt
            - DONE!
            Workout in a XXL shirt
            Workout in a XL shirt
            270 on the scales

Re: 36 days on induction and I refuse to weigh

Good point John! My husband did question the disappearance of the scale, and we discussed my reason behind it. Since he only eats what I give him, there's no reason for him to be up unless it's water retention. Maybe I'll put it back out after asking him to get on it only once a day, if at all. Then see what happens.

My next thing is to get him drinking more water! Before we were on Atkins, he drank most of the milk in the house, and the juice. I'm the water drinker. I wish that Crystal Lite wasn't sweetened with aspartame. Anyway I'll figure something out.

Re: 36 days on induction and I refuse to weigh

Great Job Tim. I have been obsessive over weighing myself because the pounds are falling off so fast, but I like your approach better. I think I am going to give the scale a break for awhile. I am always pleased to see the weight come off, but I'm afraid 1 day I'll look at that scale, and see no improvement. Instead, I'll toss the scale, and not worry about it, and concentrate on how I feel.

                  Thanks Tim

It sounds to me like you are right where you should be and are looking at this in a healthy way.

A scale is a pile of bolts, metal, plastic or digital thingys and I think we give it way too much credit for dictating the kind of day we are having. You have confidence in Atkins and are having visable signs it is working for you ... so why fix it if it isn't broke?

Congratulations and keep up the amazing work! You will know when stepping on a scale feels right for you.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Re: 36 days on induction and I refuse to weigh

I am so glad that I read this thread (as well as many others!) I just finished 14 days of induction and lost 6 pounds. I was really hoping for more but I know I am headed in the right direction. I have been weighing myself every morning and some days it was really depressing to see the scale hadn't moved. I don't think I can ignore the scale completely but I am only going to weigh in once a week from now on.

I love the support from this site - I need all of the help I can get

I have been on Atkins since sometime in July and I havent stepped on a scale yet either. I am doing extended induction and have had maybe 3 setbacks. When I started I did take my waist and hip measurements and I lost 4"off my waist and 6" off my hips. These numbers dissappoint me. However I have dropped 3 pant sizes and two shirt sizes. I am very happy with that. Good luck to you...keep at it. I am glad that there is another person who hates scales as much as I do!

What a fabulous thread! Tim CONGRATS to you and your ever growing smaller frame.

I'm on my 14th day of Induction and will be extending it. Before I started, I weighed myself nine days prior and haven't touched the scale since. I have no urgency to touch the scale. I did measure my body and will go by the inches and how great I feel.
