Glad you're here Michelle! As you can see, we don't come here daily, only when we need to complain. Then, it seems we all need to complain!

        Hiya blazin'...

no kidding on the daily struggle. Honestly, maintenance is harder than losing the weight. Of course, if that weren't true then diets would actually work because people wouldn't regain weight. :P

I'm STILL struggling. I think today i'm going to just bite the bullet and join the gym at work. That way I can just go to the gym when i'm bored at work (sitting there for 8 hours with no one to talk to = bad for my health). So, that'll solve one of my problems. Still struggling with the carbs though. I shot down 3 pounds last week and only regained because i went to town on some nutella crepes the other day. So it's 3 water pounds, and not real pounds.

This whole return of the cravings is the worst part though. I think if i actually had some good carbs to eat then i could avoid the cravings. And by good I mean tasty.

Silly, could you post the recipe for the 3 bean salad? That sounds really yummy and souns like something I could do pretty easily... I think it was Silly, anyway, I am on the next page. :P

          Great thread.

Not close to maintenance yet but, I think reading all your thoughts on what to expect will help me finally keep this weight off once I reach goal.

Hi everybody, just thought I'd check in again, it's been a while! On the food side I did very well over Christmas. Back in November I paid over the odds to ship in Gary Taubes "Good Calories, Bad Calories" from the States and boy was it a good read. It was so good that it really enthused me to stay directly on plan. I really recommend it to everyone, has seriously put me off ingesting any sugar for life!
Unfortunately the excessive drinking of coffee and alcohol as left me feeling quite bloated but staying high fat has been a life saver, no gain on the scale and clothes still fit. I have decided this year to cut way back on the coffee and diet coke. I don't drink diet coke except with the Vodka but I am beginning to feel that caffeine might be spiking my insulin levels. After reading Gary's book the insulin is really where it's at. For some reason I didn't ever get this message from DANDR, but could just be my interpretations weren't accurate. Gary's book make's so much sense to me, get it if you can. Wishing you all a great and happy new year. Claire

Good to see you Condor. I read that book too, much too technical for me. I also just reread DANDR in the book challenge and I paid particular attention to the Diabetes chapter, which in the past I've breezed through. DANDR is ver informative about insulin swings and such. Much easier to understand.

At any rate, the good news is that we know about how insulin swings harm our bodies!

Sillygirl, with you on the breezing through the diabetes section of DANDR in the past. Maybe I ignored it because I don't have diabetes, but it is so relevant to the whole low carb approach, will now go back and read that chapter!

Condor, I think the caffeine is causing insulin spikes with me too. I don't want to cut it out either, but....gotta do what we gotta do, right?

I'm almost finished with Taube's book. It's very enlightening.

                    Hi, Claire

I love when you come by! I just got Taubes' book, and am starting Chapter 3. It is more technical than I usually prefer, but I sure am glad that I got it. You're right - it makes me feel even more confident about this way of living.

Hiya Claire!!! Nice to see you again and hear you're doing well.

Hearing all your comments (and others around the board) I'm thinking I must get the Taubes book soonest. Something to look forward to, even if it is pretty technical.

                      Mitzi... awesome new pic!

Nice to see you again Claire!! I too was thinking of picking up that book, but was worried about it being so technical, i think I may lose interest too quickly.

So how did everyone do over the holidays? For the first time i did very very badly. I normally have great self control, but just kind of gave up for a couple of weeks. Not every day...but more than i can count. So a few desserts, a box of chocolates and a bag of cookies later, here I am in confession . Don't think I gained much, but I am quite bloated. I'm back to induction levels to detox and I've cut out wheat and grains and starchy veggies for now.

One thing i found really interesting, and a good deterrent for that behaviour again, over chrismas I had a mouthful of canker sores, a cold sore, an upset stomach twice, and my joints are actually stiff. I've also been sooo tired. I've had the odd treat off plan without any consequences in the past, and normally I'm great at getting right back, but I guess this was just too much.

Food wise I'm back on track, but still not feeling the ketosis energy that i'm looking forward too...I really need to get back to my exercising etc. as well.

                          Jen,

Good Calories, Bad Calories is a completely eye opening read. It certainly reinforces every single word Dr. Atkins had to say.

I, too, have to get it back together. Over the holidays I had let in some foods that I should NEVER have allowed back in. It only led me to bingeing on completely AWFUL foods. This only happened over one weekend, but it was enough to put 14 lbs on me! That was mid-December and it's taken me almost a month to get it back together. I've still got 5 more pounds to go. It caused me to totally lose my exercise momentum too.

I'm listening to Condor and Gary Taubes...HIGH FAT, HIGH FAT, HIGH FAT.

I did what I did last year... stuck to plan mainly... but overate too often. It resulted in a 2 lb gain thereabouts, both last year and this year. Was also having more than my one glass of wine per day, which is lethal for me.
Gotta step back a little, for a while.

The holidays killed me, too! I lost my exercise momentum also and hadn't exercised for over a week until today. I have put back on 5lbs. The foods I ate were not off plan but the alcohol and quantity of food were more than usual. Oh well. At least I exercised today. Back to being consistent!!!
