    Re: Maintenance Frustration

Okay, since I'm now two weeks down with my little high fat experiment I can report I am now 10lbs down! Tomorrow I will be upping the proportions with higher protein and adding in a few glasses of wine, I'll let you know what happens this time next week!

Wow good for you condor! Those are great results.

I've been keeping my carbs pretty high still, probably around 80 day. haven't tracked much the past few days been too busy. I'm thinking i may try dropping my carbs back down, now that i've had my carbs high for the past couple of months. I'm hoping that will shakeup my metabolism a bit and maybe i'll start losing again? If it works then i'll slowly add back the carbs. I would even love to see 5 lbs gone at this point!

        Re: Maintenance Frustration

I think I am down another 3lbs for the week but as TOM is around its a little hard to tell, usually gain anything from 4-5lbs around now. I upped the calories but still kept protein around half the amount (in grams) of fat. Obviously I'll know a more true amount lost by the end of the week. I did also add in wine a few nights. Overall my body feels a lot "leaner" that it has before, even with TOM. My hope is that even with upping the calories the higher fat experiment works. In a week I plan to go back into OWL/maintenance, do you think I should go through the rungs? I feel confident I could go back to maintenance and maintain.

Condor, I don't think you should start at the veggie rung as you've been losing steadily. Maybe go back to Berry rung and work your way back up over a few weeks time?

            Re: Maintenance Frustration

Condor, I had good success with the process you're trying-- lost 9 pounds in 6 days-- but when I increased my carbs, I gained (water) weight. I'm now working that gain off by moving through the rungs. I began at induction levels (for only one week) and am now on berries...and my weight is still higher than I like it!

            Just FYI.

Yes I think I will go straight to Berries, love those strawberries! Thirteenlbs I have had little ups and downs with water weight but I have just taken an average weight for the week to even things out. I am definately coming to the conclusion that for someone like me who always struggles with the last 10lbs after the new year, this higher fat, lower protein is the way to go. The best thing is there have been no cravings and I feel very energetic with the high fat, sleeping better at night etc. I will stay with this one more week has it also is helping with all TOM side affects and then lower the fat a little and introduce the berries. More next week.

Condor, my intention wasn't to discourage (or discount) your method, as I've used it as well. I just wanted to point out that when I tried to make a carb leap from "fatkins," I gained water. It sorta sucked to see those losses dwindle once I increased my carbs. As always, YMMV.

                Congrats on your losses!

I'm a little miserable right now, and can't seem to lose any more without starving. I am back to Induction after a mysterious 3 pound gain that means no more of my pants fit.

Thank you, and I"m glad things are working for you!

I can sympathize with you...I'm a little misreable as well i've had a bit of a gain, but it's my own fault. I've been too busy with a house reno to hit the gym..so i've been slacking. not sure of what my gain is in lbs but the pants are getting tighter. Not going back to a full induction, but i'm dropping my carbs down while still keeping my yogurt etc. also going to try to get a run in every day, if i can't get to the gym there's no excuse why i can't run outside with the dog! We have a long weekend coming up this weekend, which isn't going to help i'm sure

UGH, me too. Just returned from Seattle, my pants are so tight! I'm back on 100% today, drinking my water etc. Enough is enough.

                          Re: Maintenance Frustration

Hi folks. I am a bit late reporting this week but as TOM was around I wanted to wait until the water rentention left. Anyway I upped to berries and slightly more protein (this was useful around TOM). I am 2lbs up from my lowest. HOWEVER, instead of the usual scales' influenced discouragement I got out my skinniest size 4 jeans and my goodness, they not only zipped up with ease, there was no muffin top. Now my measurements haven't changed much but I decided to try on another load of stuff that has been impossible to get in to and everything is fitting like never before. I have been working very hard in my twice weekly pilates sessions and I am coming to the conclusion that I am in a muscle building (water retaining) but fat losing mode. At the moment I am very happy with the kinds of foods I am eating and the very high fat is keeping me extremely satiated. Hope this is useful to everyone. Welcome any opinions!

                            Condor, that's FABULOUS!!!

I think I figured out what my problem was. Lipton iced tea from their new machine. It's a yellow "machine" that "brews" this tea.

THE UNSWEETENED has high fructose corn syrup and corn syrup in it! THE UNSWEETENED!! GRRRRR! I've been drinking that 5 days a week for 10 months.

I'm down to 187 lbs this morning from 194 last friday.

Validrouge, the HFCS are absolutely awful, I won't eat or drink anything with them in any more, and I don't trust anything outside of my kitchen that I haven't either examined the label to the tiniest detail or quizzed the chef! For years I kept drinking crystal light and couldn't work out why a calorie free drink could be such a problem, this formum certainly helped me with that one.
Well done for the weight loss. I am glad you found out what was causing the problem, isn't that great? My sweet tooth has completely disappeared, I even have whipped cream as a treat without splenda now.
                              Keep up the good work!

Great going Condor! It's really interesting to follow your high fat 'trial'.

Joy... isn't it just so unfair when they say something is unsweetened and then load it up with carbs! Glad you caught that and have started losing again.
