  • Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

Yeah, December was a wash for me, but reInducted yesterday and down a pound already. It was so, so easy to fall back into good Atkins habits, and I enjoyed my hamburger and MUP for lunch so much. I just feel better without sugar. I do. Especially beverages. I wasn't drinking soda (that's just too over the top sweet), but honey in my tea or sugar in my coffee was just kinda ewwww. It was very funny though, this morning I almost stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a hot chocolate on the way to work before I remembered that I don't do that any more.

Started on Augmentin for an ear infection today...so everything is going to start tasting awful anyway.

Happy New Year, Steppin' back crew.

        Hello

MUP stands for "Mitzi's Ultimate Pumpkin", and it is a delicious way to get in some veggies.

About the pumpkin - I use Libby's canned pumpkin that is probably located next to the baking items in the grocery store. Make sure to read the label carefully so that you pick up the 100% pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling, which is also made by Libby's and looks a lot like the pie filling, which has sugar in it. Here is the recipe for what I eat:

In a bowl, I mix 1/2 of a can of pumpkin (which is .88 cups) with 2 ounces of cream cheese. I put this in the microwave for 45 seconds then take it out and stir well. I then add a few drops of liquid Splenda, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons of allspice and stir. I am in Maintenance and eating up to 50 net carbs, so up until this week, I also added 1 ounce of almonds, which is about 22 that I cut in half, so I could have 44 nuts . (I've recently cut out nuts for at least a couple of weeks, though - control issues). I then put it back in the microwave for about 50 seconds, stir, and it is done. I find that the warmer it is, the better it tastes. And I really, really love this stuff. Beware, though! This concoction contains 15 net carbs. So anyone who doesn't want to use up that many carbs can leave out the nuts and/or cut back on portion sizes of the ingredients. (some people put less cream cheese than I do in it.) It is also has a high fat percentage since I use a lot of cream cheese, but I don't stress over that. This makes a pretty good amount, too, so you may not need to make this much. My husband always talked about how good it smells when I make it, so I made it for him one day. He couldn't finish it all because it is kinda rich. Cutting this in half would have been enough for him. I always finish mine.

This recipe is very versatile... you can add different spices, in different amounts. I've added unsweetened cocoa to it before, and some have added coconut. Play around with it... you're sure to find something you like.

            Hi, Muffy

Thank you so much for the compliment!

SF maple syrup... I've never thought of that - sounds interesting!

Hey, are y'all going to start posting here again? I kinda assumed everyone had mover over to the New Year, New You challenge. I try to spend as much time as I can in Journal Chats, so I haven't even had a chance to browse through that challenge thread, to see who's there. I've been posting my menus and totals in my Journal Stats.

Wherever you are, good luck to you!

I am not sure that I am up for a challenge right now, but would like to keep comparing notes with other experienced folks who are stepping back/reinducting/etc...

What's the best thread/forum for us?

I know that I have been having a struggle actually logging in my meals still. I know that I have to do it, otherwise it will get out of hand. It has been three weeks now since I have been logging my meals on the calorie counter and I need to be slapped for being sloppy with my recording.

                      OK, Don... here you go.

LOL... that was just in fun. There's no way I could slap a sweetie-pie like you.

I definitely understand where you're coming from... I went for just about a week without recording, and it became apparent pretty quick that I need to be accountable, even it is just to myself. I've been back at it this week. Once you get past the first couple of days, it becomes second nature again.

I'm still here in this thread, Titian.

I had joined a challenge but I think I'm going to bow out of it, because I don't want to weigh until February, and weighing is a crucial part of the challenge.

I'm not re-inducting, but I'm indeed stepping back, as I gave myself too much leeway with higher rung carbs over Christmas break.

Julie, if the 08 challenge is what you're talkin about dont worry about it, i made the rule of - you must weigh every monday - to keep people accountable to the challenge, ive had a few people PM to say they only weigh monthly, thats fine, i just want people to post weekly so that we know theyre there and to support others, as long as you post in there each week its fine, you dont have to weigh in! tis up to you honey!

I have been in a holding pattern. I weighed on Monday, and stayed exactly where I was at 211. Only 11 more pounds to go. Of course it would help if I got back to being serious!!! Still have not logged in any of my meals! Also, I need to get back to the gym. They switched over the equipment and I have to relearn all of it. It is really a poor excuse. I am going to call right now and get an appointment with a trainer, then I am going to log my meals from yesterday. No more excuses! It is a new year and time to get back after it!!!

Here is what happens when I stop logging my food. I start to get really sloppy and before you know it, it gets out of hand.

                              For Example: Here is yesterdays!

                              Breakfast
                              2 eggs
                              1/2 cup cottage cheese
                              1/2 cup blackberries
                              1/2 cup soy milk
                              1 cup Kashi cereal
coffee with 2 tsp of cream
NOT TOO BAD SO FAR! LOL

                              Lunch
                              2 cups brocolli
5 oz of chicken in mushroom sauce
                              Still not to bad!

                              Dinner
                              8 oz of ham
                              2 cups of salad
3 tbsp on blue cheese dressing
                              2 roma tomatoes
                              still not doing too bad!

Snacks spread out over the day (TIME TO HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS!)
                              10.5 oz of red wine
Crab dip (estimated 2 oz of crab, 1 oz of cheddar cheese
Wasa cracker with 1 oz of cream cheese
1/2 large apple with 1 oz of cream cheese
2 oz of assorted nuts (mostly picked the almonds, pecans, and macadamias)

A whopping 2601 calories, 144 grams of fat, 170 grams of protein, and 123 grams of carbs minus 36 fiber.
