Re: 10 More Pounds To Go and Moving On Down

I'm enjoying this thread immensely! Rooting for you Don!!

Re: Pastrami.....the brown sugar.....the meat is corned (like beef) and then smoked over barely-burning brown sugar....at least that's the recipe i have as i make my own to avoid nitrates. Anyway, the actual sugar in the product is therefore miniscule.

I don't know what is happening, but I have seemed to kick this thing into another gear. I got on the scale this morning and even another pound is gone. I AM ONLY ONE POUND AWAY FROM GOAL!!! I feel like dancing away that other pound!!!

Mitzi, that is going to be my goal picture! Me in my new tux! BTW, that is the same murder mystery that we did with me in the tux (sans jacket) on the far left a few years ago. It will be one very interesting contrast!

        Woohoo
        Nearly there

We are all breathlessly awaiting that tux picture, Don!!

Re: 10 More Pounds To Go and Moving On Down

Hey, there you guys are....so many new people on the board post Jan 1, I had a hard time finding the "old timers".

Don, Mitzi - you two have used the low carb protein shakes (if I remember correctly from your menus). How did those work for you?

I need to restrict my evenings a bit and mentally I think this might be the way to go. I just wanted to hear about your experiences with them.

Thanks in advance. Not trying to hijack your thread, Don, but rather trying to find a few specific people in one place.

Thanks Elizellen! I will get the picture up some time this weekend.

Titian, I didn't have any problems with the shakes like some people, so it worked just fine. I used to drink them each morning before my workouts because they gave me the protein that I needed to fuel my muscles before lifting weights. Lately, I haven't been drinking them, but that has more to do with how much they effect me financially, rather than physically. They have really gotten pricey.

I found them for 5 bux for a four pack at Market Basket. So just over 1$ for a dinner. I don't know - if they work, mentally and physically, perhaps they are worth it. Thanks much for the input. I am curious to hear what Mitzi says.

Up just a little, but it is oh so close. I am weighing every day now. It has been a long long journey and I feel a bit like a kid in a car that has been traveling for awhile. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Not that I'm anxious or anything! LOL

Just saying that made me think of the song by the Hollies and it reminded me of the support that I have had with all my friends here on ADBB!

                Why not share

                And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
                (and my own words)
We ain't heavy, we've lost our blubber!!!

It must be sheer torture to be 'almost' there, but not quite. I remember how long it took me to get to 199 from 203. It felt like forever. We are all holding our breath for you, too! It's hard to type and walk with all my fingers and toes crossed!

                    Hi, Muffy

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Yes, I added the shakes when I entered Pre-Maintenance. I have one every morning at 6:30am... for a long time I was going without food until at least 10, sometimes 11am. Although I wasn't hungry until then, I knew that I shouldn't be going that long without food. This was perfect, as I am an early riser and busy, so I didn't want to have to fix anything.

I think the shakes are a "your mileage may vary " sort of thing, affecting each of us differently. Thankfully, they didn't affect me negatively at all. One thing you may have to watch - if you are one who watches percentages, you will note that the shakes are "protein heavy". People who eat mostly chicken and fish may end up with too much protein for the day... I have seen a few posts lately about people having a hard time getting in enough fat, and a shake would only make that worse. While this could be a problem for many, it is actually a plus for me, because my protein percentage is always low. On days I don't have a shake, my protein has been as low as 21%. The shakes give me a nice little protein kick.

While I have the shakes, I stear clear of the bars for a couple of reasons. The main one being, I avoid sugar alcohols and most of the bars are loaded with them. I can't stand when the nutrition info on a product doesn't make sense.... When they say a bar has 22g carbs and 10g fiber, yet state that the net carbs are 2g. That funny math is a red flag to me to avoid the product. The shakes don't have sugar alcohols, and the nutrition info makes sense on their label. Another reason I don't do bars is because sometimes I can't stop at one.

A little warning... I have gotten some sarcastic comments about having the shakes... that I ought to "know better". Whatever! I think that I have done all right.

Oh, Don! That is sooo cool that you have a before picture, set in the same scenario as your new picture will be. Take a pic without your jacket on, too, so we can see those next to each other. This is so exciting! You are a very good-looking man, and I am so happy for you that you get to enjoy that fact. Good for you!

Re: 10 More Pounds To Go and Moving On Down

Well, it is official! I hit my targeted GOAL weight this morning!!! Yippee and Hallelujah!!!

It took 18 months of diligent work to do it, losing 156 lbs in the process, but I am finally there. Now the real work begins. Maintaining this weight for the rest of my life. However, I didn't just learn how to LOSE weight in the past 18 months, since joining ADBB I have really learned how to actually eat and I now have the confidence that I can live this WOE.

Happy Valentines Day to all. I know for me, that this one will be extra special.
