  • Okay I have a really big question

Okay someone needs to let me in on something that I am missing. I have read Dr. Atkins book through cover to cover many times. And, I have noticed in some of these post people doing low carb and low fat and low cal all at the same time. What is up with this. Did you not read the book. I know that you are trying to lose weight like really fast and all, and I know in order to lose weight your calorie intake does usually fall a little, but it does this naturally on the low carb diet from your hunger falling. Dr. Atkins didn't talk about doing low cal or low fat diets. He talked about not doing them. He like low carb because he felt it was not only healthier for us but it was also a way not to deprive ourselves. When I read over some of the menus you guys have through out your days, it is not healthy. And, it isn't Atkins. I am sorry, but it isn't. It is your own version of it. This isn't what the book taught us, have you guys even read the book? You have to remember that losing weight isn't the only goal here...true it is important believe me I want to do it just as bad as anyone, but we also have to learn how to eat properly and take care of our bodies properly. And what is right for them. Starving our bodies of food is not healthy. That is never the correct way to lose weight.

Re: Okay I have a really big question

It has been a very heated debate as of late (specifically about calorie counting). I think we have all agreed to just embrace our ADBB family members and to let each share their own opinions without getting into long ranting posts. We have most recently addressed the topic of in which forums these things are to be discussed so that those folks who are least familiar with Dr. A's concepts won't be discouraged, overwhelmed or confused by our discussions of his 'finer points'.

That being said, you're right about some people here trying things not exactly as prescribed by DANDR, 2002. But we aren't in Boot Camp so no penalties, right? Most newbies are just trying to really grasp the basics and even 2nd timers or old timers learn something new as we go. We probably all try things to see how they work and, I am betting, most of us end up back at or near where the book tried to lead us in the beginning.

You may have a point. I just hope this thread doesn't blow up...hint, hint to you all reading this

By the by, welcome to !!

Re: Okay I have a really big question

      Hi Christie

Low carb and low fat= low calorie by default. It doesn't need a seperate mention

I do stay lower in calories and use some lower fat products when I'm actively losing fat.

      Have I read the book?

      I can recite it.

I was never, ever in this to lose weight fast- just once, and I've mostly done exactly that in the last 4 years.

Dr. Atkins absolutely talks about lower fats as you progress through the stages. He never intended for this way of eating to be very high in fat for forever. - You might want to read Atkins For Life as well as DANDR. There's a follow-up it doesn't sound like you've read. You might want to do so before being so judgemental.

What may be starvation for you may well be more than enough for someone else. Nothing is one size fits all - and Dr. Atkins plan is very easy to work with to tailor to your needs.

You'll probably notice that a lot of those of us at goal weight or close to it *do* watch our portion sizes and intake more closely. We do it because we have to. If you're not that close to goal, then you wouldn't have the experience of the journey to understand why. If you are close to or at goal and you never had to do that - I think that's awesome, but I'm not one of them.

It's easy to jump up on a soap box- and it's fun to stand back and watch a board who has had a hot topic lately and then respark it on occasion too, eh?

I also thinks it's very easy to get confused and have questions chrisie, especially when you only have in 4 posts and are apparently trying hard to understand. Just follow your DANDR, you'll understand more as you go along. After 4 posts, I hardly think there's a soapbox anywhere. As you can see, the topic hits nerves. Just relax and check out some of the stickies in the induction section and follow the plan. It will all work out, and you'll reach your goal, after much work and learning your body. Don't sweat it so much. You aren't missing anything if you have your DANDR and are reading it and following it.

I'm still looking for any question or hint of confusion in the post. She wasn't asking a question - she was trying to make a point.

And LMAO - This didn't hit my nerves at all. If it had, I'd have been snarky. LOL The insinuation that it did or that there's a question being asked in the OP sorta does. Since when do you need several posts to jump up on a soapbox to make a point or to pick the single point of contention among the masses here and respark the whole shebang?!

I was just referring to the fact that her post said she had a question, and she started it off with asking what she might have been missing, that's all. Along with the fact that she's obviously rather new and that the other topics were tense, not you. Are you sure you're okay? I certainly didn't intend to get jumped on, since the nerves I was referring to weren't yours?

Re: Okay I have a really big question

Actually, I apologize, I could have worded that better in looking back. I just didn't see the soapbox, and I was guessing that she had read the other posts, I shouldn't have linked those together, it's late. My bad.

Re: Okay I have a really big question

Okay, this is me praying that this thread disappears or that someone locks it really fast!

I kinda have to watch my overall calories ( as in I plug into fitday and don't worry if I fed my hunger more on somedays than others or went way less as long as I feel good and am on any sort of down the scale slide - just close to or at goal I seem to need to tweek)...

BUT, who cares what I do? And why do we let these posts rile us all up? I think Jasmain tried to handle it nicely by attempting to post something that might assuage the poster and whoever else may come along rather than inflaming and engaging in negativity. She put a positive face on what could very easily have been a negative post.

We really should just let it end with that sentiment. ADBB rocks and even in all its greatness and loving support, there will be people who don't fully embrace its primary mission in the beginning (or maybe at all). As a more experienced ADBBer, I hope to cause these posters to look more closely at what they have said just by being positive. Jasmain does a pretty good job of that.

The question was a lead in to another stinkin' calorie debate. LOL Anyone else as bored with it as I am?! How about we all follow the basic rules of the program we've chosen and do what works for you?!

She's newer (since January), and has only posted 4 times now, but she's obviously been reading. I'm not a huge fan of stick-pokers. LOL

Me? Okay? Nahh - but that's a vent for another thread.

Jumped on you? Perhaps I misread what you wrote, or read it with/in the wrong tone. My bad, Jas, love

yep we be tense past present and future ones

Chrisie you will be surprized what you will see folk bring to ADBB that they think Atkins is cause their brother's girlfriend's mothers' cousin's cousin's friend did and lost weight calling it Atkins.

Even some big losers started like that and had to be convinced that that info they brought with them wasn't the right way to do Atkins
