Re: Okay I have a really big question

Okay I didn't " jump on any soap box" and I have read the book many times thank those of you who said I haven't. I wasn't trying to put anyone down. I was simply trying to understand why put all that strain on yourself when a simple low carb diet works and it is easy. And healthy. I am sorry that I think that counting carbs and calories is a bit much. I do not think that is fair for for this thread to be "locked" and I do not think that just because I am "new" that that should devalue my opinion or make it any less true or inacurate. The simple fact is if you go back to the book he tells you not to count calories and the only way that fat is really mentioned a whole lot is if you have a metabolic resistance in which you would need to do the fat fast and he tells you it is extremely DANGEROUS to those who really don't need it. I think that this forum is wonderful. I think that y'all are great. I do think that some of you get offended to quickly. I was simply asking a question. And yes, that is what it was even if it was stated in opinion form. I don't understand why you would do something so crazy as to mix something up so cruel as a low carb and low cal. We naturally intake lower calories as we reduce our carbs. But to dramatically reduce them. I can't see that you understand the way a low carb diet works. Where are your bodies getting fuel from. If you are reducing carbs, calories, and fat. On a low calorie and low fat diet we get a fuel from carbs and on a low carb diet from fat and we always get them from calories of course, so if you are cutting out everything you are cutting out your bodies fuel. I don't understand how you say you are doing atkins when you clearly are not. I never meant to offend anyone. I DID NOT KNOW THAT I WAS ON ANY HOT TOPIC. I WAS NOT TRYING TO GET ANYONE RILED UP. This is a forum and I am free to vioce my own opinion.

Re: Okay I have a really big question

the issue with those folk reading the book is the terms low fat and too high protein. what is too high and what is too low? We all bring our own prejudices to the program baseed on our life experiences with weight loss. if you have been eating a low fat plan with only 10% of your cals in the form of fat then 30% fat is now high in your mind. if you were already doing a low carb protein plan then 50% protein is low to you.

Folk who don't understad that there is over a 300% difference in the amount of fuel needed to process carbs and fats in the body use those machines and chartsd that tell them how much they burned yup working out and they think they are taking in too much fuel for the amount they are burning from their preivious dieting experience.

It takes time and patience to teach them how to do it right and to unlearn the things they thought they knew abouit Atkins. I can remember many long discussions back in her early days here with one of our popular losers who thought her way doing Atkins wasa great and the right way. She finally saw the light about the over consumption of frankenfoods, the need for the veggies and real foods. Some of her opinions we didn't change but at least now she knows the right way to eat and is having success morphing her body. As she rkeeps running into trouble using those parts she didn't change hopefully the light will shine. In the mean time every new to ADBB Atkinseer needs the same teaching so they can learn to do it right too.

Re: Okay I have a really big question

Personally I've started to count calories as I've moved to pre-maintence. It's because since I'm dealing with a smaller body, I need reality checks like fitday to show me what I'm putting in my body. It's been so long since I've been hungry that I would probably just pass it off as a stomach ache at this point- or cramps

pineapple that is really a blessing for you then cause one of the big scary issues of premaintneance is apetite does return as our ketosis lightens from the increase in our carbs and the slight lowering of the fats. Dr Atkins says since we have been practicing controlling our carbs and food intake by feeding our hunger in the other 2 phases we know how much to now eat. This is why it is so important for us to learn the huger feeding starting in induction.

Of course, your opinion is welcome. I can't speak for everyone but until this post I didn't know what your actual question was. I think I understand.

I've been here long enough to see so many people struggle doing Atkins as instructed and they are just trying to find a combination that works for them - something that they can live with for a long time. Why do so many people fall off and then come back? It may be because they don't understand. Coming back to learn it a positive step. And, posts (threads) like yours bring out the discussion which may actually help more people than you realize.

                Please don't feel discounted.

                Happy low-carbing!

Re: Okay I have a really big question

Thank you Perry it is nice to hear someone be positive. I am sorry that you didn't understand what I was questioning in the beginning, from now on I will try to be a little more clear with my words. I tend to ramble a lot...lol. If you just talked to me in person you woud see oh so clearly. I just feel that Dr. Atkins intentions are not being used as much in some of these diets. I am not putting them down really. I just don't agree with them and simply they are not "atkins".

I understood your question perfectly chrisie_20, unfortunately I don't know the answer. I'm still new to this myself.

I said this is very different from the posts full of support and love for one another, that wasn't an insult to anyone - it's different that's all.

Bren I am NOT trying to be ugly in any way, BUT I think you are trying to make a joke out of what I posted and I don't think it is a joke. I am very serious about this topic and I don't like my opinions being made jokes out of. I truly want everyone to come together OPENLY and talk about this...not jokingly or angerly.

Actually, what Bren is doing (in my opinion) is deflecting some of the negativity that could creep in from some other posters by injecting some humor. Read the posts very carefully before you judge so that you don't immediately grab on to a defensive way of thinking and I think you will see that. Whether you have read about this topic before on here or not, it has gotten VERY ugly in the past and ended with people feeling awful. We value the discussion and what can be gained from it. I don't think Bren was at all trying to insult you - rather, her humor allows the discussion to continue without all the hurt feelings by taking it down a notch.
