  • Under 30 Club?

No, not age, pounds to lose. I see the majority of the people here have a considerable amount of weight to lose, and they seem to get such fabulous results very early in the diet. And they say the less you have to lose, the slower the loss. I think that's very true.

So, who else has a goal of less than 30 pounds to lose? I started at 147, and my goal is 126...21 pounds. I've lost about half that, but it's been very very slow. I read all the posts where others have lost 15 pounds or more in the first month, and after two months I've only lost 11.

I'd love to hear from others in the same situation. It would help me a lot to know my ridiculously slow progress is normal.

BTW, thanks to all the members for their support!

I agree, the less weight you have to loose the longer it takes. I'm on week 9 and have only lost 10lbs of my 22lb goal. So for me I am averaging a loss of 1lb a week... Feels like it will take forever to reach my goal...

Hi Penniedo!! We're just about the same...pounds and start date and age!

Our age DOES have a lot to do with our weight loss! Us over-40 gals are struggling to take a pound off a week!!!

it isn't that smaller folk lose slower it is seeing the same percent change in yourself that is harder.

for example with 30 pounds to go 30 pounds is your entire needed to lose weight or a 100% change for me it was just a 20% change in the amount of weight I needed to lose. 14 pounds for me from day one was the same as 3 pounds for you.

Celebrate the chang in your % of fat needed to lose with every ounce you lose and don't worry about comparing yourself to the superheavyweights. you Know many of us would have killed to have just 30 pounds to lose. We superheavyweights envy the closer to actaul goal weight the flyweights are.

it is hard to be happy with what we need to do to fix our bodies when we see others having perceived by us better results.

        Happy low carbing.

          Re: Under 30 Club?

Some people may need to lose 40-50% of their current weight, and others (like me) need to lose 15% of their current weight. Of course it's not as noticable, but a pound is still a pound, and it's only natural to compare my minimal loses to others who have more signifigant numbers. And I'm sure that we 'lightweights' may be viewed as vain because we don't have that much to lose, but according to my body fat ratio, I'm considered obese at my current weight, and so my need to lose weight is certainly not vanity.

And I in no way want to take away from those who are achieving amazing amounts of weight loss and sticking to their diet. Everyone who achieves better health through this diet is a winner.

Chupa, I agree with you about age. I remember in my 30's I could drop 5lbs in a week! Those days are long gone!!

2big, thanks for putting the percentages out there. It helps to keep things in perspective!

It sounds like a good idea. Obviously, the diet is going to be very different in speed of results for you folk with smaller amounts to lose.

Lucky, sensible people doing something about it before it gets to be a huge problem.

                          Re: Under 30 Club?

I started with 31 pounds to lose and I've lost 22 in a little over 3 months. It does seem like it's slow going sometimes. I seem to go a couple of weeks with no loss or very little, like maybe .5 a pound, and then one week I may lose 3-4 pounds. These last 10 pounds are really hanging on for dear life. But with the way things have been going, I'm really hoping to see a pretty nice drop by the end of next week. I'm going to increase my water intake, the intensity of my work outs, and keep my fingers crossed.

Yup poppie, it's the Goat Sucker. I have a cute avatar that I need to resize.

I got so tired of choosing names, I change depending on what kind of board I'm on. Fitness and Cruising I'm Chupacabras. Other less appropriate boards I have other handles *wink*

atkinsagain, I'm finding the same thing, little spurts of weight loss with dry spells in between. I'm in a serious stall right now. Nothing for two week!! And I do mean nothing...no pounds, no inches, nada.

I didn't mean you were vain or any thing. I was just telling you that even though you think you are losing slow comnpared to others you aren't cause you are losing the same percent of your needed to lose weight. different prospectives on those number give different views was all.

it is too bad sclaes only weigh in pounds unless you get an expensive one cause even losing ounces is a big event to celebtrate too.

Dr Atkins knew how impatient folk could be about seeing weight melt off and defined stalling as 4 whole weeks of no inches nor pounds so you still have hope before you are officially stalled. I can remember my first one I went nuts making all the changes folk who had been there done that had dones and after 7 weks just went back to basuics of what had gotten me to their to begin with and poof the pounds moved again. I have anouther 2 month one and a 13 weeker that the board had fun assisting me with breaking ideas some pretty radical like the exercise slug one. Weigfht loss isn't a constant linear effect just as weight gain wasn't.

Hang in there you are morphing your body as you burn off the body fat add lean muscle tissue and keep your fluid mass in a constsant state of flux.
