It was totally your hand, wasn't it? please?

I was reading this thread earlier and had to pause and get an applesauce cup[ for my toddler, I sat him down with it and his spoon, popped in a movie and ran back over to hit refresh. Well, Momma forgot to open the dern applesauce. But my fine little man did it all by himself!! He somehow managed to bust through the foil and ate a good bit of it, wore a good bit of it and painted his table with the rest. See, if I hadn't been all distracted by this run away thread I never would have known what he could do! Such a good boy!

Hey Melinda! I love food art! It looks like you have a son who knows how to get into a mess and be creative with it.

            Lucky you!

Ha! me too! His current favorite medium is chocolate ice cream. Though he gets limited quantities, he utilizes it well and makes the most of it! I need to buy stock in Brawnie and Pine-sol.

Re: 3 Day Carb Binge - Is It Okay?

I admit I didn't read all the posts in response to the original poster, but I have to put in my two cents here. Planned cheats are not the way to go. I know because I've done it in the past. It's so hard to get back in the Atkins game when you do it. Also, all that weight you're losing on induction...you'll have blown it. Each time I restarted, it's taken longer to get back into ketosis and therefore, less weight lost. Now, if you like starting things over, going through induction flu again, and have things go slower, that is entirely up to you. It's your body and your life to do with what you will.

I did notice though that in one of your posts you equated eating carby food to having fun. Now this is just my opinion and I don't mean to cause an uproar, but...was it all that fun eating all that food and waking up one day thinking to yourself that you need to lose weight? It sure wasn't any fun for me.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck in doing it. But please, read the book and if you're going to do Atkins, please don't plan any more cheats. It's just not worth it.

Re: 3 Day Carb Binge - Is It Okay?

My friends and I are going camping over the 4th of July weekend. Basically what this means is playing drunken horseshoes and bacci ball and eating a lot junk food. There is absolutely no way I'm going to be able to avoid carbs on this weekend. I'm over 2 weeks into induction right now, and I plan on staying on it until that weekend, after which I will go back onto induction for another 2 weeks.

So, my question is, what kind of setback am I looking at here?
Wow, who would have thought you would have gotten such a response!!!
So, your question is, what kind of setback am I looking at here?
Well, that all depends on you! Are you in control, or does the food still control you? For me it took well over a year of being cheat free to begin to even realize that I finally was in control of the food. I learned I did not, nor do I not have to eat something just because everyone else was, the food does not make the occasion......... YOU DO! I have learned that a few minutes of tasting something I used to think was so wonderful is point blank just not worth it to me anymore. So, see it all depends on you! What kind of person are you, you have to decide?

Experience (as I have been here for over three years) I would have to say the number of people who post they are going to cheat or have cheated and wondering what their setback will be are the ones we see come back time and time again, restart or we never see again. Hence the STAC forum. Yet many of them have learned from their mistakes and have answered your question in this thread already.

Just my observation over many many posts.
Now, on to Agreeing to Disagree and respecting each other.

Re: 3 Day Carb Binge - Is It Okay?

I understand your frustration right now. I too have bounced around the idea of "taking a break" for those special occassions. I also don't want you to be discouraged by some of the comments and not come back to this board. Despite this particular post, you wont always feel like you are being ganged up on (though I am sure that was no ones intention). I'd hate for you to even consider leaving the board as a result of this particular thread.
I also recognize the desire for normalcy and to "fit in" with the rest of the world that is not doing ATKINS. This will be more evident when you are with them during camping. You have two options though...to stay on the plan or to go off of the plan-its that simple. I recognize that you had already decided to go off of the plan before you even posted your message...it seems though that you were looking for some level of advice, direction, approval or understanding with that decision. I dont know though if you would necessarily get that "go ahead" here.
But personally though, I will say that I totally understand....I am fearing the 4th of July weekend with all of the carb loaded treats I expect to be up against. Can I promise I wont waiver? Nope....but just like an alcoholic or any other person with an addiction (carbs are definately an addiction), I can only say that I will take one day at a time.
So with that said....continue on your current path...one day at a time. You have done so well up to this point.
When you get to that weekend, which is weeks away, you may have a change of heart. You may see even more progress than what you have done so far and decide that the set back is not worth it. However, if you decide to go ahead and break your carb fast.... then recognize it for what it is and don't beat yourself up. This is not giving you "permission" but it is a personal choice and we are all adults here. If you decide to go off, then start again immediately. And as "Miss Phode" said, the physical withdrawls might be enough of a negative consequence. I would assume that going off ATKINS for the holiday and "NOT" starting again will be worse for you than going off and restarting. Obviously you sought out this board and ATKINS way of eating for a reason. Don't get discouraged...Give it the next couple of weeks before you make a decision....
                    Good luck either way.....
