Re: Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

Have you not moved into ongoing weight loss phase of atkins yet forest? With only 20 lbs left you should really think about it. You need to give your body time to adjust to those new foods. Do you remember reading about it in the book? IN OWL you gradually add back things to your diet to see what you can and cant add and still loose weight. You have to do this while you still have weight to loose though. This phase is vital to maintaining this WOL after reaching your goal.

Refusing to answer a question is one thing - but actually trying to stop someone from being able to ask a question - that's a bit scary.

Some people made their disapproval of this course of action really clear, others tried to answer the man's question - some even did both. Those that wanted to stop him actually being able to ask the question and get an answer (either good or bad) about the atkins diet, on the atkins diet bulletin board - I don't think you had the right.

He asked the question on the main diet forum, not on the boot camp forum. The question was about the Atkin's diet. If his question irritates you then you can ignore it, but please don't try to stop him asking it.

        In my very humble opinion..

Everyone has to live a little, and as great as this diet is, and as much weight as everyone is gonna lose..

At some point, you gotta just gotta be a lil crazy. The emphasis on LITTLE.

5 days outta how many days he's been on the diet? 5 days of craziness and then back on the wagon.

I'm with him. When I go to Mexico (gosh knows when THAT'S happenin') I'm bustin out and eating tacos, drinking Pina Coladas..everything I want. Because a Vacation is a trip away from reality and rules.

That being said.. (everyone's probably mad as Heckola now) by then hopefully I will have learnt to WANT to eat less, so hopefully my brain will already say.. Yes body, I'll have that taco.. but not seconds. (cross fingers)

As mentioned by barb, not all the foods are necessarily 'illegal' if you were in OWL or premaintainance, which i think you should be. if you have the pastrami on rye, that would be a grains rung food (i love rye bread and do eat it in maintanance). do they have whole grain bagels? again not necessarily an illegal food. I'd avoid white flour sugar etc. try to stick to plan to the most part, and if you really must, try to stick to a higher rung food, the damage wont be as bad.
Thanks Sadie, I was giving up after that one....

Re: Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

So just to offer a different perspective on this.....if a person is doing low-carb, but they are having cheat days or not exercising, or not going up the rungs when they get close to goal, then technically they are not "doing Atkins", right? So technically, they are not cheating on the Atkins plan because they aren't actually on the Atkins plan.

So then my only issue is that posting these kinds of things on this board could be confusing to newbies who think these people are following Atkins and getting away with stuff when, in reality, they aren't following Atkins at all.

You know what I mean? Just a thought for those who come down hard on people who cheat on Atkins. If they aren't actually following the plan then there's no need for us (me) to get our knickers in a bunch right?

IMHO I think he's just flaming the boards, but I'll leave that up to the mods to determine! Right from the start he knew it would engulf into flames and looks like he's accomplished that!

Re: Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

Forest, have you read DANDR? Honestly, Atkins is FOR LIFE and if you screw with the plan it WILL screw with you.

BE PREPARED for bowel trouble, feeling very sluggish, bloated and downright nasty. It may not happen to you, but it might.

Why do we always put a heavy emphasis on FOOD when we go on vacation? Why do we have to have an all-out carb gorgefest like we aren't on vacation if we don't do that? Why can't you do what Hudson suggested and have a couple slices of the pizza you want one day, then go on plan the rest? Do the same with the other foods?

Honestly, though if you don't even know what a "rung" is regarding this plan, then GOD help you achieve permanent success. You should have climbed them all by now with only 20 lbs to lose.

Sorry, to be such a grump, but I am trying to protect you from feeling like total crud for your trip, when you COULD feel energized and vitalized if you stayed on plan. But I guess that pizza and deli sandwich are just too tempting...please.

Re: Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

I agree with you G-Mom. Making food the focus of our social life is what got most of us into this situation in the first place. Moochiecat used to say something like she's eaten everything there is to eat, or things that are similar, enough for a lifetime. I've had pasta. I know what it's like. I don't need to let it be my downfall. Same for bagels, pizza, potatoes. I would consider going off plan if, say, I was on vacation in the Amazon rain forest and there was a particular delicacy that you could only get there, and it happened to be carby, but it would be a once in a lifetime experience. Throw myself out of ketosis for a bagel? I'd rather be able to fit into my cute denim shorts next summer. But we all have to make our own decisions, right?

Re: Ok so Im GOING to be cheating!

Why I have a problem with posts like this.
                        by Bren

Ok, the original poster asked his question and got his answer. But, alot of others had input too.

Now, in a nutshell.............. does anyone here know Forest?

Does anyone here know Forest's medical history?

Did Forest have blood work prior to starting this WOE?

Do we know if Forest is a diabetic?

Do we know if Forest is pre-diabetic?

Do we know if Forest is an undiagnosed diabetic?

(check out the figures on the percentage of the population that falls into those three catagories.......will scare the you know what out of you!)

Do we know if Forest has High BP?

Do we know if Forest has heart disease?

Do we know if Forest has ANY medical complications?

I have looked and cannot find anything regarding Forest that would tell me I had ANY right to tell this man to go ahead and cheat (or for that matter, not to cheat).
I could go on for hours here!

We know NOTHING about this member! Yet, people have found it ok to tell him to cheat and enjoy his cheat.
ok, whatever. BUT....... the next newbie comes along ... reads this post and says "Hey, Forest did it, so can I" and then the next and the next etc etc.

I do not have facts or figures......... but take a look. Wonder why we have a second time around forum?
People cheat, and the majority have consequences. Having been here a good long time and read more posts then most. I will say that telling someone a cheat is ok and go ahead and do it is irresponsible and in no way HELPING that person. Doing this WOE is to some a "life and death" situation.

We are the ADBB......... where we stick to the Book. That is it "pure and simple". Dr. Atkins says "Cheating is the kiss of death". Pure and simple.

Many members have slipped up and cheated, learned why and how to deal with those mistakes and continued on to be a success or on their way to being a success. MANY are cheat free. MANY MANY MANY have cheated never to be seen of heard from again. I am a strong advocate on learn from your mistakes! And, I have seen thousands do so and to those people, you have my utmost respect.

ok, climbing off my soap box.
