      Re: Stalling Buddies

Hey BeanPole - sorry for your DBF's loss. In times like those it is difficult to prepare ahead even on Atkins so I can understand your going off plan. I bet you are retaining fluids - it would be difficult to believe that it is actual poundage. I promise (like I did with Charks) you won't be stuck this way and the weight will come off. I think especially for you since you are pretty small already the weight just takes a bit longer to come off as your body doesn't see you as "overweight". I really think we all need to put the scale back up as it is truly depressing each of us (I'm sticking mine up in the attic). Also it might be helpful if we each start posting a "sample menu of what we are eating daily" that might help those that have been successful at this WOE see if there is something we are eating that caused them to PAUSE in the past as well.

We are going to overcome this and get into our skinny clothes and without it Killing Us

Thanks. I just feel terrible for the family because the woman that passed away's mother died like three months ago. Its really been a huge blow for his family. I did manage to stay on plan at the last funeral, but we weren't gone all day long. I hope its just fluids. I feel like such a gross blimp. I may not have as much to lose as some people do, but I'm short and I really don't like the way that I look right now. I want to be comfortable in my own skin. Hiding the scales is a good idea. I can't bear the thought of getting on it right now. I'm going to wait until Sunday to weigh.

Heres my menu for yesterday(I cut my veggie portions in half to try to jump-start ketosis and I took out all of my dinner seasonings besides pepper to cut down on the salt):

Breakfast - Three medium eggs fried in canola oil with a slice of cheese

Lunch - 1 cup of lettuce with homemade dressing(4tbs mayonnaise, 2tbs heavy cream, garlic powder, and pepper) and half of a cucumber sliced

Dinner - salad with 1 cup of lettuce with a mixture of 2tbs canola oil and 1tbs unsalted butter poured over it and 1/4 cup shredded mexican cheese - 4 chicken tenders baked with pepper and then covered with 1/4 cup of shredded mexican cheese

I drink a half a gallon of water or more daily.

RBLWMN - Good luck! I hate public speaking, I'm people/stage shy. You're my hero for getting up there and doing it for the kids!

I need to run and get DS dressed for school. I'll try checking in with you guys again later. Today should be easier than yesterday and less busy, I hope. Stay strong everyone!

I completely understand about feeling comfortable in your own skin -- I haven't felt that in a while... but I will.

Todays menu (not such as good deal eating wise -- not enough food) but I was doing alot when I got home and now its really tooo late to eat.

Breakfast - pork rib and 2 ounces of cheese
Lunch - Salad with cheese, chicken breast and tomatoes ((Had meeting & lunch brought in)
        Dinner - none

Though.. this is my problem, I get busy and forget to eat and when I think about it not hungry... I will probably snack on a handful of nuts in a minute just for the carbs.

Sally asked why I took the skin off my chicken yesterday - I should have mentioned that it was KFC FRIED Chicken and as I know all too well - its coated with flour.. so only recourse was to take the skin off -- I had got some green beans to go with it but they were cold and I was too lazy to go upstairs and warm them up.

Last nights dinner ended up being taco salad as DH made taco meat

Tommorrow I have planned ahead and made my breakfast and lunch so I will be more on track.. but I will post it tomorrow and keep you all in suspense for tonight

Hope everyone had a good day.

          Re: Stalling Buddies

I ate the same thing yesterday as the menu that I posted and I plan on eating the same thing today. I think I lost some water weight from the funeral binge, but I'm not weighing till monday. I think the scales will start moving since I cut down on my carbs. I'm taking in about 8g of carbs a day. I will know the results monday. I got the idea from the 'golden shot' website. The lady mentioned that in the beginning she had to eat as few as 5g of carbs to start losing. I think my stalling is due to the continuous falling off of the atkins wagon and then getting back on. I'm trying her solution, except I'm eating a little more carbs. I joined both the pants and the swimsuit challenges. They're really doing good for my motivation! I found myself pushing harder this morning while working out because I want to put my pictures side by side when its over and really see some results. Keep on keeping on! We'll get there eventually!

I still wonder if eating too few carbs is making you body feel like it's dieting. Holding on to what you want to loose. And, I'm not going to be one of those that says "you don't need to loose weight, your so skinny!" lol but, I saw your swim suit pics & you look great. Maybe just tone instead of loose. Know what I mean?

Sounds like everyone is staying on track. I did much better yesterday as far as my water goes. I drank all 64 ++

            Here' yesterdays menu
McD's side order of eggs with cheese
            side order of sausage
I cut them up & mixed together & added a pack of salsa
            YUMM-O

lunch was a gyro salad with taziki (or however you spell it!)

dinner was grilled hot dogs with chili (no beans)
and buttered up califlower & brocoli.

Then a touch of riccotta, cocoa powder, splenda & spices.

            No alcohol yesterday

Oh & I did weigh this morning, first time since weekend 162.4 lbs

Thanks! Everyone keeps complimenting me and I think that I look terrible! Its very uplifting though! At this point, I'm just trying everything. I think my body likes where its at and is giving me a hard time about losing any more and just wants to gain. It doesn't make much sense because at the beginning of last year I had gotten down to 108lbs quickly without any trouble at all. DBF influenced me to eat non-atkins friendly carbage and I gained. It was a yo-yo cycle from there. I wonder if metabolic resistance can change drastically in a year? I lost 11lbs the first time that I did induction and now I don't lose anything at all if I do induction. I just want to be back down to where I was and lose the last three pounds. That was the weight where I was happy with myself and could look in the mirror without utter disgust. Until then, I'll continue working on toning up with my P90X!

                Re: Stalling Buddies

Hi all - well I believe I am back in ketosis as my mouth feels awfully gross and disgusting! Its soo bad I swear I can smell it myself ... but that's good news.

I did lose a couple of pounds finally ~ not enough to get excited about and enough to be encouraged that hopefully I will continue to lose.

                So far today I ate:

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with bacon and mushrooms
Lunch: 2 hamburger patties with slice of swiss and brocolli with cheese (love veggies)
Dinner - will be as its cooking right now: Chile Releno with salad.

Beanpole - are you fixated on the actual number of pounds or more the inches.. I know from the spring into summer challenge you want to get down to pretty small size -- which is more than doable for you -- you are exercising and keeping on track -- though I agree I think you ought to try one more time to increase your carbs.

I wish you all a visit from the Wooshie Fairy for tonight

Same menu yesterday and today as posted. I feel lighter today. I'm sure its water weight, but one can hope to lose some fat too!

FBG - As far as pounds go, I would like to be 110lbs or under. As far as inches, I would LOVE to fit a size two. I've never been that small before and I used to envy my friends that were that small. I'm also short so I think that it would suit me. Each to their own though. I know some people think that size is way too thin, but thats what I think looks good. I was happy at 108lbs and could've stayed there without a second thought so the size twos aren't too important to me. If I haven't lost more than what I would consider water weight by Monday, I'll up my carbs. I just need to rule out whether or not this works for me first so that I can pinpoint my stalling problem. How are things coming along for you? Hopefully those couple of pounds will turn into a whole bunch of pounds! We will have victory!

ok, I let a friend borrow my book so I can't go read up about stalls (pauses).

This Saturday will be 4 weeks no weight/inches lost for me. I was trying not to weigh except on the weekends but I gave in this morning. No gain just no loss.

So what does Dr. A say to do? Anyone remember? Do I go back on induction?

BTW, my dd is down to 149!!! From 166!!! I'm so proud of her. She was just jumping up & down. So like this week is a perfect example of how 2 people can eat the same food & have complete different effects.

                        Hi Ya RBLWMN!

My book is at home, but when I get there I will search for you. In the meantime - I tried to search this website and this is what I found so far

                        (1) When you start Atkins induction, your body dumps a lot of water
along with the stored glycogen, and there are other hormonal things going on
that promote water loss. So you lose several pounds of water, sometimes
more. You may even get slightly dehydrated at first. (2) As you continue on
induction, your body begins to adapt to the reduced carb intake. Water
retention is gradually normalized, so that you are no longer dehydrated. A
pound to several pounds of water weight may gradually return. (3) As the
small amount of water weight gradually returns, you're also gradually
burning fat. The water weight increase is offset by the fat loss, showing a
net slowdown or even "stall" on the scale, sometimes even a small increase
on the scale. (4) As you continue low-carbing, the gradual loss of weight in
the form of body fat will finally start showing up, and you'll start seeing
the scale moving down again. This whole process may encompass a period of a
month or more. Seeing the scale stop changing, or even a small increase in
weight is therefore pretty normal for many Atkins dieters, and is not a
reason to drastically change the diet or start doing a radically hypocaloric
thing. It is always a good idea, at any stage, to be careful about your carb
intake, to make sure you're correctly charting your carb intake.

If, after four weeks past induction, you are not seeing the scale start to
move, then you probably want to look at ways to get past the stall. A true
stall is not diagnosed, by the way, unless you've gone 6 weeks without loss
on the scale or in inches. Methods such as counting calories, stepping up
exercise, increasing or decreasing carb intake, cutting out certain types of
foods can be tried, preferably not all at one time (so you know what is
working and what isn't). Also be aware that on low-carb diets, many people
(not just women) seem to lose weight intermittently, rather than gradually.
They will go along sometimes for several weeks with nothing showing up on
the scale, and then all of a sudden, in one day or over a couple days, lose
several pounds. Nobody seems to know why, but this seems particularly common
to low-carb dieting. Patience is a good trait for low-carb dieters to work
                        on.

I hope this helps everyone!!!! I know MANY of us are in this situation like me right now!! Lets hang on and prove this theory PISS to be right on the nose! GOOD LUCK ALL MY FORUM FRIENDS!

Okay RBLWMN - got the trusty how to do it right bible out

after making sure that you haven't started any new medication, reduction in activity level, yeast and/or thyroid problems or food intolerances - make sure it isn't the carb creep and added more carbs than you realized) Make sure you aren't eating low-fat foods as they make up for flavor missing by adding high carb fillers and sugar; stay away from caffeine, etc....

Dr. Atkins recommends the spending week in close examination of what you are eating, and then try backing off your carbs slightly.. Take away the last 5 grams of carbs you permitted yourself as you may have slipped above your CCLL. If you have not been in lipolysis for a while and are now stuck you may want to gradually lower your carb level by 5 gram increments until you are back into ketosis. -- if all else fails go back into induction for 3-5 days that should kick start you back into weight loss... then add the carbs a little more cautiously than you did before. It's quite possible you have a fairly high metobolic resistance...

                            And most imporatantly EXERCISE

He goes on to state that we should not get discourage with the plateau or PAUSE that some individuals lose weight in a patter of plateauing for a month, then taking a dip of four or more pounds, plateauing again and so on. If you get discouraged and start to cheat before seeing reults you will sabatoge your success.

I agree I think he is talking about me here... The first time I was on Atkins I lost steadily, but this time if I think about it hard each time I have lost has been after TOM (2 weeks later to be exact) and for last couple months have been paused for few weeks before I showed 4-5 pound loss all of sudden... so maybe I am not being Patient enough.
