Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

when i was in middle school, my brother said my thighs were huge. I said that "that's not true, they're the same size as most people i see in magazines and stuff" and he goes "yeah but they're full grown women!!!!!!"...right in front of all of my friends.

Another time i was at the beach, i was probably like 14, and i was wading out into the water while holding a box of wheat thins and my dad made some comment about how i could at least put the wheat thins box down before going swimming.

My brother has always called me fat, from "beached whale", to "chubby wacker" before he knew what it really meant.

some 11 year old twig in Old Navy whispered to her mom that I shouldn't be buying a bikini when we were in line.

after i had lost 16 pounds my boyfriend's friend goes "you look good, you've lost at least 60 pounds" and rather than hearing the compliment i just thought "wth!! how fat did you think i was?!"

I was taking supplements for thyroid health, and my brother said "your thyroid is fine, you're just fat and lazy"...ironic coming from someone who eats Mcdonalds everyday and works out about 1/10th as much as i do

Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

      Hugs to you all

It is horrible to hear these things. Whenever I see a fat character in a film or show being made fun of (Shallow Hal, Friends, Norbit, etc) I think it is like the last sterotype it is ok to laugh at. But it's not ok.

I was never really overweight, so I didn't come in for much stick. Once though I found out someone from my uni had been talking about me behind my back and described me as 'fat and ginger'. I felt soooo upset, and I was most upset about 1) how I realised it was actually noticable (i'd been pretending it wasn't) 2) That this ***** had upset me.

And what really annoyed me was that we both had underactive thyroids, so she should have understood weight gain a little more. Sometimes I think I'd love to see her now. But maybe that by thinking I showed her means I am subscribing to the idea that see was right to judge me - know what I mean?!

Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

thought of a couple of WORSe things that have been said to me than what I mentioned before.

My husband used to tell me that I would be really pretty if I just lost some weight. That was before he gained a lot of weight himself.

Also when I had my youngest daughter (20 YEARS AGO), I weighed 213 pounds. it was my all time high at that point and I was 9 months pregnant. i was having cesarean and the anesthesiologist came in to do the epidural. Right in front of my husband, he asked what my weight was. So I said 213 pounds. And my husband yells in shock " You weigh 213 pounds????" Anyway they gave me the epidural and the nurse who was assisting and monitoring my blood pressure starts reading off number rapidly to the anesthesiologist and my blood pressure is dropping with each number. In between each reading my husband is saying stuff like"213 pounds! I can't believe you actually weigh 213 pounds! How could you weigh 213 pounds?:"
And I'm lying there thinking, my blood pressure is dropping, I actually think I might be dying and all he cares about is 213 pounds!" Anyway, it turns out that my daughter was actually lying on a main arteryand with the anesthesia it constricted the blood flow so they actually tilted the bed for the surgery until the point where they lifted her out and I survived to gain again and now I wish I weighed 213 pounds (or less).

oh here was a nice one from my brother "you could get anyone you wanted if you dropped about 50 pounds"

it was like the only compliment he's ever given me and masked in a huge insult.

also, i once got "another hef for the heffer?" from a bartender who thought he was being funny cause i was drinking hefeweitzen.

This is totally random...About 5 years ago I used to have long kind of frizzy brown hair, and this homeless dude on the street stopped me and told me I looked like Sam Kenison...That's good for the ego...

Oh my lord! I could go on and on about this. My ex-fiance was mortified that I gained weight. It wasnt enough that I was no longer allowed to go to family functions, funerals, ride in the same vehicle as him, sleep in the same bed as him, just basiclly be seen in public with him...that he woke me up one night at 11:30 pm and asked why I wansnt working out? I replied with "um..I worked 8 hours, went to school 4 hours and cooked your dinner and have been taking care of our son, I thought after all that today that working out for 30 min was good enough." His reply was " If I cheat on you dont be suprised, consider yourself warned!" I was so shocked that I looked at him and said "we have been together 7 years, I have loved you and given you a son. I have not changed only my pant size has!" He says to me " I would rather be with a ugly skinny girl that be with a fat pretty girl, so lose it or else!" I left him about a year later. I am now married to a man who loves me and my fat.

I have been called some pretty rude and ignorant things in my day. The one I hate the most is "Big Guy" from someone I dont know or I just met. But I take every thing people say with a grain of salt and consider the source of the comment. I am a jokster myself so I usually hit'em with "oh yeah I might be fat, but I can loose weight. You will be ugly forever" That usually turns the tables real quick and the then the joke is usually on them. Just my 2 cents.

Wow, my heart breaks with each post I read. Nobody should have to put up with that kind of meanness. After each post, I've been looking down at you guys progress and that makes me smile. Everyone is doing great. We'll show 'em
Dan, I've actually used that line a few times. Then they called me mean and fat I'm like you, though, I try not to let it bother me but sometimes it just gets so persoal you want to crawl under the covers and cry.

Re: What is the worst thing you ever heard someone say about your weight?

It is sad that we have all had to deal with this, but reading others stories for me anyways, makes me feel better because I know that I am not alone in the hurt. I lost my Mom a year ago and I love her with all my heart, but she could hurt me the most and the quickest. She would introduce me to someone and say, "This is my Daughter Susan, she once was a pretty girl until she let herself go like this and get all fat and blubbery." She never meant to scar me, but it really really hurt and I only wish I would have started this sooner so she could have seen me thin one more time, but I know that she can see me from where she is now and I hope I can make her proud and make my goa, I am sure going to try.
Have you ever sat in a chair and had it break?
Well, here goes... one night in a bar (yes I used to drink and party) I was sitting on a 4 spindle legged chair one of those flimsy ones, you know the kind. I noticed that the leg was loose and I actually thought, "Oh my I sure hope this chair does not break because everyone will say look what the fat woman did." So I was sitting very carefully on it. I had no more than had the thought when my Daughter cam running over to me (she worked there in the restaurant) giggling and laughing and jumped in my lap. Remember, my girl is on this Plan with me because she is not thin either. With a huge crash the chair came down then me and them my shocked girl. I was in pain as my tail bone slammed on the concrete, but I laughed it off and tried not to be too embarrassed, tried. I could of crawled under the nearest rock and died. Everyone there was really nice about it. It was not a good night for the heavy people about a half hour later a man fell off of his stool and had to be sent to the hospital for a head injury. It was the owner.

SueSue, I'm glad you started this thread. Reliving those times and reading about everybody else's experiences has given me new motivation. I've been in an extended cheat the last few days, but this has helped bring me out of it. I want to be looked at as the tallest guy around, not the biggest, and I know if I stick with this I can get there.

i just found this thread to read................i really can NOT believe the stupidity and hatefulness of some people! having been overweight, i think i am much more sensitive to how people feel about their weight and ever since my kids were little, i have threatened them with death for ever commenting on the weight of people we see out and about (as kids sometimes do!)

i can't really think of any comments made directly to me but my ex-MIL used to talk all the time about weight loss and all her daughter's "darling friends" (who weighed 95 pounds soaking wed)....in front of me, making the direct implication that i might be much more acceptable if i was a "darling girl" too!

what REALLY struck me was, after losing 70 pounds, the comments people would make like "is that REALLY YOU?", "wow you look SO much BETTER!".....and what i wondered all the time was why didn't people see ME then! i suddenly became "approved of" and "acceptable" when i was thinner. why was i not good enough when i was fat? their extreme comments made me realize that i must have looked terrible before, worse than i thought!

YES! I know exactly what you mean! I didn't think I was that bad before. It made me feel a bit sad for all the times I'd dressed up and gone out with people who said I looked nice, but then were amazed about how much better I looked.

I guess it is hard to give a compliment without making a comparison to the previous 'you'.

By the time I am thin, fat will be in!

I was previously married and my ex husband would say - "your going to wear that out, it makes your hips look huge" At the time I was 140, amazing how that still sticks with you!

I was on a flight and asked for a cranberry juice (bladder infection), the flight attendant told me on my second one that it has a lot of sugar and I should dilute it with water. I was humiliated!!

Ok, I will be honest... my worst one ever...
I bought a Teddy size 20 (mind you that was 6 sizes ago) because I wanted to look sexy for my husband (who is 99% of the time the sweetest, kindest most caring man you could ever meet, but for some reason not this particular moment) I made a nice supper, the whole thing and then went and put on my Teddy and came out to show him, and he
                                laughed!
I ran to the bathroom and took it off and never wore it again. I cried and cried. ( I gave it to my Daughter after she got married) My husband swears that he was not laughing because I was big and trying to look cute, but he says it was because I (the tomboy) had something lacey on. I don't know which was true, but in either case I never tried again. I went back to my granny gowns and to this day that is what I wear or I wear a big T-Shirt to bed. That is the worst one ever for me. Snivel, snivel.
