    Re: Buddy List August 4-10

Good Morning and thanks for the warm welcome to the buddy list. I really appreciate it!

Now, for a question: About 6 weeks before starting Atkins, my hubby and I started bike riding. In the start I could not ride up my driveway, but quickly worked up to going 8 miles a day. (5 days a week) I had a few days of the induction flu the third day in last week, but that went away. But the lasting side effect I am still noticing is bouts of extreme weakness, especially during bike riding. Hills I could easily ride up before without stopping, I can no longer even get halfway up without just losing my strength. My legs just go weak. I've found this around the house too. Folding laundry the other day, I got halfway through a load, and my arms just went quivery weak.

Other than being 25 lbs overweight, I'm in excellent health, I don't take any medications, have always been active, and I am taking a daily multivitamin. Is it normal to have this happen during induction? I'm assuming it is, but I'm in the second week, and still having issues with weakness. Just want to make sure it's not something out of the ordinary! Other than that I'm feeling great. Should I cut back on the intensity/duration of excersize while on induction? Jen

Hi everyone! I'm starting to feel a little better so I thought I would see how everyone was doing. Welcome Jen!

sugarsack and caramella - I was nervous about going to OWL too but I'm so glad I did. You'll love it!

Not much is new with me but I think I may have gotten a new job as a graphic/web design person for a company that puts on dance workshops all over the country. I need something to do while I'm waiting to start the NYPD. Anyway, the cool thing about it is that I get free dance classes at broadway dance center, which is a huge dance studio that has all kinds of classes. I used to dance in high school and I've been really wanting to get back into it because its so much fun and such good exercise. Yay!

YAHHHH...I am back on! Problems in and outside with the internet. They had to replace something outside on the pole. Then some Y connection in the grey box was put on backward (that was done years ago) and then inside the guy said he has never even seen a modem like the one we had. He is saving it for coffee talk tomorrow.

f4n...thanks for the list of snacks...makes me hungry just looking.

Joe...I hear you...while holidays are great it does interfer with the routine. Keep chugging along!

caramella...that was one of the articles but she goes a step further about how the extended folk do not succeed as well. How after extended induction goes on for a while they end up cheating and then doing induction over again...or because they didn't move up the ladder they didn't learn the lessons that are needed to keep the weight off. etc etc.

sugar...stay strong. Now you know what damage a nut cluster can do...I liken it to an addict...you were 'clean' then you had your 'fix' and now you are back to fighting the cravings again. Try some tuna and mayo...some people say that helps. Don't ask me why. They will pass. If they don't check out your food ingredient in case there is something hidden in there that is keeping the craving alive.

Mike...now if that isn't a sign!! Now it is up to you to help yourself. You now that if you don't cave the feeling will pass and you will be okay. Remember it. I am happy for you!

Jen....it could your version of the induction flu and should pass but you may want to go to www.fitday.com and make sure you are getting approx. 30%protein/5%carb/65%fat during induction. Your protein needs to be up there especially because of your exercising.

Vanessa...buddy! Glad you are feeling better. I am stoked for you for the dance classes!!! Very exciting.

Bill....hope your power is back on and everything is fine. We are missing the Bazz family!!!

              Re: Buddy List August 4-10

Thanks for all the yummy suggestions! I find myself doing just what Mike was doing..wanting something sweet. I think it has to do with all the salty foods I eat (ie, bacon, cheese, pepperoni, etc) and my old habits was to grab something sweet instantly afterwards. I have fended it off for the most part...thank goodness!

I think the fear I have with getting out of the induction phase is that I feel like I didn't lose enough weight (as I have two more whole days till I'm at day 15). I know it sounds horrible but I am one of those people who want to see definite results as soon as possible. I know that I am in for the long haul here--I don't want to fail. I think that doing another week of Induction will be good for me because I want to learn to eat better without carbs. Adding them back right now seems a bit intimidating. My DH's sister did Atkins a few years back and she went all "hard core" and lost a lot of weight--which is great if you don't do what she did. She never got out of Induction...for 5 months she was in the induction phase and that resulted with her getting her gal bladder taken out. I want to be dedicated but with a healthy mind set. So it's one more week..then I think I'll be able to progress into the next phase.

Anyhow, my son's 8th birthday is Saturday..we are planning to go bowling--I'm glad I'm over my flu..or I wouldn't be able to lift a bowling ball!

              Night night everyone.

Robin...one more week of induction won't hurt. But am glad you are going to move on. You will lose weight there too!

Good morning everyone!! Hope everyone's doing well.

I just got an email at work that they are bringing bagels to our meeting this morning! UGH!!! Good thing I have some pepperoni and cheese in my lunchbox. Maybe I'll bring that with me, or have it after the meeting.

I have to rat on DH. He is so not exercising!!! I even tried to get him to play Wii Fit, but he keeps saying he's too tired. I have to say that he has lost a good amount of weight. In fact, his pants were too loose on him this morning. I guess since he's on his feet at work, walking, lifting and such. Maybe he feels he's getting his exercise that way.

                    Morning all:
I'm feeling really good today. I'll be out of town all day, but already have my meal plans made. Also, I did a sneak peek weigh in and things are looking pretty good - provided I stay steadfast 'til my Sunday weigh in.

Vanessa - so will you be joining the NYPD as an officer? The whole web designer to NYPD thing has me curious.

Elsie - glad you got your internet problems sorted out. I think there would be open revolt around my house if we lost internet.

Hope everybody has a good day - stay strong!

                      Hi everyone!

Mike - yes, as an officer hopefully. I know it sounds random but the next police academy class doesn't start until Jan. so I need a job in the meantime.

Robin - bowling sounds fun! One more week of induction won't hurt.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm still a bit under the weather but I'm hanging in there.

Hi Everyone - I am new and just started atkins, today is my 3rd day. I just went to the snack list and printed a couple of them, they look great. I don't mind dieting and limiting my foods but I hate eating the same things over and over and that is usually when I screw up and grab something I shouldn't. I'm hoping with some of these snacks I'll get variation and that will make it much easier.

Are lentils okay for the induction phase? I started this week and could not find any information on them. Thanks in advance!!

Carmella...just because they bring them doesn't mean you have to eat them. have your snack before they come so you are not tempted. As for DH maybe you two can do something together? A walk after supper maybe?

Mike...good for you for having a plan. You can do it!

Vanessa...glad you are starting to feeling better. You have been under the weather for a while.

Diamonds...Welcome! Planning is key. Good for you for planning ahead!

Minatieno...no lentils. Not until the legumes rung. sorry! Stay strong!

Not sure how the buddy list works. But i'll just say whats on my mind.

I'm not a happy camper. I'm on induction and lost 11lbs in 10 days, but the last 2 days the scale hasnt moved. To make matters worse, I did an hour of cardio the day before yesterday and still the scale hasnt moved.

                                HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Please read my intro here... I am looking forward to encouragement and this whole buddy system!!

BigSmooth, you can't really expect the scale to constantly always move. Just because you excersize an hour doesn't really compensate for 3,500 calories which is 1lb... But you really should keep your head up and be proud! 11 lbs is a LOT!!! Stay on track and I'm sure it will get better! It's only been 2 days of being stuck and AT LEAST YOU DIDNT GAIN.
So I won't hesitate no more, no more
