    when I'm dying for nachos, I bake cheese in the oven until it's crispy (either pinches of grated cheese or small squares of it to make individual chips) and have it with salsa, sour cream & jalapenos. it's like the best part of nachos with NO chips!

    skillet pizza is turning into a lifesaver. it's so good, and so easy.

    I made the effort to get unusual ingredients for cake, and it's been totally worth it! now when I bring one of my low-carb cakes to family dinners (because I want dessert, hahaha!), they get eaten before all of the sugary, carb laden ones! and this includes kids.

    every once in awhile I crave chicken strips, I'm not one for deep frying though. otherwise I'd just make them with cheese, nut, or pork rind coatings.

    i think I've managed to get over most of the stuff I was missing. just like a bad ex.

        I miss milk! I guess there really isn't a good substitute for it other than cream which i only use in hot tea. I used to easily drink 1-2 quarts of milk a day- hey it does a body good... I think that was a major reason for a ton of my weight gain- when ever i was thirsty I would drink milk...

          I used to like milkshakes too. Now I have a tablespoon of cream, some decaf and ice and top it off with water as a replacement. It's not the same, but its okay.
          I highly recommend about 1/4 c cream, a cup or so of water, and Stevia to sweeten. If you really want it to taste like icecream, put it in the fridge for awhile. It's like melted ice cream, with very few carbs.


          I find I don't really miss much. I don't want that junk food, high carb food anymore. Maybe the day will come when I realize I've been holding back a dam, but it's been over a year I've been sugar free, low carb. I'm thinking I'll make it until it's time for a nursing home and then I'm not sure how I'll be able to eat. Fortunately, that seems to be a few decades away.

            Would mixing cream with water work? Add a little stevia for sweetening?

                I was skimming through and was going to avoid posting because there really isnt much of anything I miss... and then...

                Sushi.

                Oh.

                Yeah, sashimi is awesome also, but it's not the same. Although, spicy tuna handroll with no rice IS awesome.




                As far as the pizzaq thing someone said...

                Try THIS! It's Linda's Pork rind pizza... and I made it the other day (except I made mine square) and it totally felt like I was eating pizza.

                I used to miss stuff other times I've done Atkins, but this time I mus tbe doing something right, probably because I'm experimenting way more with food and cooking, but I don't feel deprived at all and I feel like there are so many more things I still want to try (induction friendly) and I'm not tempted to go to the next level yet.


                I do miss family functions dinner-normalcy. It's not a particular dish I miss though. But, tonight I went to my friends house and she was making dinner... she announced luckily what she'd be making ahead of time (potatoes and sausage) and I said, "Hey! Let's go to Kroger, there's some stuff I wanna cook too!"

                And we had a cookout, I made my awesome "breaded" chicken (put pork rinds in a zip lock an dcrush them finely - using a rolling pin or soup can, and parmesan cheese pepper, onion powder and garlic powder, dip the chicken in an egg, then toss in "breading" mixture and bake 7-8 min a side at 400) and just-like-stuffed-cauliflower and it was an awesome dinner, both Atkineers and carb-eaters alike enjoyed it!!

                I used to miss bread until a horrible failed attempt at making a "Muffin in a Minute" by accidentally using baking soda instead of baking powder, and let me just say it was DISGUSTING - and when I try to remember how bread tastes or pancakes or muffins even, I can only remember that horrible thing I ate...

                  I miss pizza. I have made a low carb pizza by taking a portobello mushroom,rub the bottom of the mushroom with some olive oil. add mozzerella cheese, pepperoni, cooked sausage and bake it in the oven for about 15 minutes. Its really good. I also miss potato chips. I take pepperoni and put in the oven on a cookie sheet 400 degrees for about 3 to 4 minutes. They come out crunchy, you can find them with zero carbs. I am always experimenting with different foods. Good Luck!! Hope this helps.

                    Cereal!!...Kelloggs Frosted Flakes, Honey Bunches of Oats, Rice Crispies...all of them. Before starting this WOE, I could easily eat a mixing bowl full!! I'm itching to try the Pork Rind/Cinnamon Toast Crunch recipe on Linda's site!...I hear it's good.

                      the recipe is in the Desserts forum, under "chocolate cake". I use some weird specialty ingredients, but to me it was worth it to use them and stay on plan WITH cake. I hope you give it a try!

                        I freely admit that I am a bread addict. And, like any other addict, I will always be tempted. It's a matter of trying to find other ways to make me feel better - exercise, hobbies, and whatever.

                          Wow, great thread.....

                          I miss my homemade iced coffee which helped me drink 2 gallons of milk a week. Have no substitue for that....

                          I miss milk as well, used to have a glass with dinner every night, sometimes for breakfast too.

                          I truly miss pizza and cannot ever eat only one slice, just would not want to. I do plan to try some of the pizza recipes posted here because I really, really miss it.

                          I definitely miss wheat bread and wheat pitas. I would ALWAYS clean my plate with a piece of bread. Now I use my finger to get the sauce or gravy up...just cannot throw it out and no one I know likes it when I lick the plate, LOL.....

                          I have thoroughly enjoyed every low carb recipe I've tried so far and really don't feel deprived....

                            I miss fried catfish. I found that if i season it with cajun seasoning and coat it with grated Parmaesan cheese and cook it in olive oil, it hits the spot. Usually when I eat fried catfish, I drowned it in katcup. Now I eat the parmaesan coated catfish, I eat it with homemade tarter sauce.

                              Meli and for all others who miss milk... once you get to the Dairy Rung (Rung 2, I think), you can have Hood Calorie Countdown 2% milk. It used to be called "Carb Countdown," but it's now about the calories, I guess, from a marketing standpoint... same ingredients/nutritional info, though. Just look for a milk made by "Hood." I think it's about 3 carbs per glass, if I remember correctly. The chocolate is awesome... and the plain is really good, too. The almond milk is okay, but this is a lot more like "real" milk!
