Need Help about how many carbs are in this...

    1606 calories doesn't seem like very much ...

      You would add up the total net carbs and then divide by the number of servings.
      Ok, so I've made the soup and I'm second guessing myself about trying to figure this out correctly. I have entered in everything in Fitday and this is what comes up for the entire pot of soup:

      Calories 3,059
      Fat 164.7 – Calories 164.7 - % of Cal -1,470 - 48%
      Saturated – Cal. 28.6 - % of Cal – 255 – 8%
      Polyunsat. – Cal. 26.1 - % of Cal 234 – 8%
      Monounsat- Cal. 75.4 - % of Cal 671 – 22%
      Carbohydrate Cal- 57.7 - % of Cal. 213 – 7 %
      Dietary Fiber – Cal – 18.6
      Protein – Cal 326.0 - % of Cal. 1,377 – 45 %


      So given the totals above, I'm suppose to subtract the Carbohydrate from Dietary Fiber to figure out what the total net carbs would be correct? If that is correct, the number I come up with is 39.1....is that correct?

      Then, I take 39.1 and divide it by the total servings...which would be about 14....that gives me 2.79 carbs per serving...is that correct?

      Sorry for all the questions but I have never figured out soup before.

        You are subtracting dietary fiber from carbohydrate... but yes, 39.1 net carbs for the whole soup is correct.

        Then, I take 39.1 and divide it by the total servings...which would be about 14....that gives me 2.79 carbs per serving...is that correct?

          Terrific, thank you for your help with this Georgiana...I really appreciate you going over this with me.

          The only other question I have is this...if I'm keeping track of my food in Fitday each day (which I am)...how do I enter just a serving of this soup for my log to be accurate instead of the entire pot of soup....is there a way or no?

            You should simply divide all the numbers above by 14. So this would be

            Calories .... 218.50 kcal
            Fat .... 11.76 g
            Saturated .... 2.04 g
            Polyunsat. .... 1.86 g
            Monounsat .... 5.39 g
            Carbohydrate .... 4.12 g
            Dietary Fiber .... 1.33 g
            Protein ... 23.29 g


            per serving.

            By the way, your numbers are correct only if you are eating the meat and vegetables in the soup.

              Ok great....thank you for showing that to me....but I have to ask...what do you mean by only if I eat the meat and veggies...do you mean if I have the broth as well it would be different? I did add spices so I know that will change the carbs as well but not too much I don't think???

              I didn't measure the spices...I should have but didn't.

                Nope. If you have the broth, then it will be correct. For it to be correct, you will need to have everything you added in soup (meat, vegetables, spices), plus the broth.

                  I mentioned this because the broth alone has different nutritional info.

                          1 x tbsp of Onion Powder contains 5.57 grams of carbs....could that be true?!?!?!?!

                            Did you subtract fiber?

                            Onion itself is a carby vegetable, so grinding it down would make a carby powder!

                              Sarina, I've found the easiest way to figure the nutrient counts for something like soup in FitDay is to enter the whole thing as a custom food. Where is says "1 serving", change that to be the total amount (eg 14 cups). Then, when you eat, say 1 cup, just enter that and FitDay will do all the math.

                                oops.. my math skills and reading skills aparently need work.. lol so it turns out with that bmr formula plus the 250 it is 2477.. I am really going to have to figure out how to eat that many cal's in a day...This is going to be very hard... I am going to work at it though.. I really want to do this right and succeed! bah.. any suggestions are welcome about how you get cals in.. I am def going to do the butter on my veggies thing.. but I can't get that many more cals in a day with that alone.. bla.
