      • a BBQ with non Atkins food?
-There is ALWAYS Atkins acceptable food at a BBQ, and I can always volunteer to bring something! (legal hee hee)
      • a friends wedding?
-No-one will be looking at what I am eating anyways...that is not the point! Either choose on the invitation (you usually have a choice) or sneak in some nuts and pretend to eat the food!
      • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner?
Bring on the turkey! and salad...skip the stuffing
      • a day of overwhelming chores?
-PLAN PLAN AHEAD...Take a bath (or a bracing shower) and forget about food...
      • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday?
        -Tough one...next question please?

At the bar-b-ques I always try to bring something legal that I can eat. Because there is always meat, I just ask to leave off the sauce or bring my own from home that I've made. When it comes to weddings, I usually eat before I go so I'm not tempted to eat what's there. Thanksgiving and Christmas we have at home. Turkey for thanksgiving ,and because I love mine with lots of gravy, I use arrowroot to thicken it up, and I make sure there's a relish tray and lots of deviled eggs. For Christmas, it's the same, only I bake a big ham. As far as a full day of chores and I'm super tired , the family is on their own. I'll fix myself a salad that I always have on hand and throw whatever I have in the fridge on it. Eggs, cheese, turkey, olives, bell pepper, you get the picture, yummy! On vacation, If it's driving, I always pack a cooler with lots of legal food, or find a sizzler and have me a big juicy steak and hit the salad bar. Breakfast on the road is usually a side of three scram, bacon and coffee. To keep up with exercise on vacation we're members of the Holiday Inn where they have a gym and pool on the premises. Also have been known to take long walks to check out the sites where ever we may be.

Sorry I'm late for the discussion - I had to finish my final first!

Becky - great job of planning for your hospital stay. Most of us would not do that but we should care enough about ourselves to do just that!

            2. After the discussion, answer the following in this thread and in your journal:
Keeping in mind, that you are committed to getting to goal and you are WORTH IT, and stating the postitive things this WOE has done for you, how would you plan to stay the course for......

a BBQ with non Atkins food? - I always take a veggie tray and/or deviled eggs to BBQs or get-togethers. There's almost always some sort of meat I can have.

a friends wedding? - Eat before I go!!! And even if there is nothing there for me to eat, weddings are so hectic no one will ever notice that I don't eat anything or have cake

the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner? - there's always ham and turkey at both my and DH's families. And there's usually a veggie or two I can have as well.

a day of overwhelming chores? I like to use my timer. I have to take breaks every so often and sit with an icepack so I don't overdo it with my back and that is a good time to have a bite.

a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? - coolers!!! We normally drive everywhere so taking a cooler is easy. And if we stay in a hotel we always get a frig. Now if I had to fly, I'd take nuts and protein bars probably. Maybe some tuna in a pouch too.

keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars - walking can be done everywhere! I like to take a workout dvd just in case there's anywhere to do one. DH always has his laptop with him so I can even do it in the hotel. I guess if we were in a car all day we would have to make frequest stops and I would be sure to do lots of stretching.

            • I Am Worth It Challenge ~ Thursday Assignment

              DAY 4 Thursday
We looked at some Positive things about ourselves and our WOE and WOL.
We have discussed how to Plan and things we can do to be prepared in certain situations.
Now we're going to Learn from others by looking at their motivation, outlook and success.

Can you think of a member of our board, someone who seems to be always at the top of their game in any situation? They think positive, they seem to plan everything that would influence this WOE and WOL.

              Your boardwork for Thursday:

              1. Think of a member of the ADBB that you believe is a positive influence. Find one positive post of the member and quote it here. Make sure the post has some "meat" to it and not just a word of Congratulations.

              2. Find 5 positive remarks in the signaures of other members and quote them here.

              3. Make a post, if you have not already done so, in the What excuse do you have...... thread. Be sure you read the first post so you know what kind of excuses are being asked for.

As with all the other assignments, record you entries here and in your journals.

                • Re: I Am Worth It Challenge ~ Wednesday's Assignment

Becky, that was an awesome post and very eye opening. I would never have thought to do that and Im sure I wouldve fallen right off the wagon. Hospital stays are horrible.

Im in a hurry so Im going to have to "bunch" as well. I dont really find it diffucult to find legal things to eat anywhere. Im in OWL so its getting easier all the time. BBQ's are never a problem for me, we go to our local metropark with our family often and I always bring my own legal food to toss on the grill. Also, salads are very easy and I usually have one on hand. Im getting ready to go to a wedding soon, so all of these posts have been helpful in relation to that. Ive already seen the menu (its my brother in laws wedding) and there are a few things I will be able to eat. I suppose I'll eat something before I go so Im not tempted to pig out. I really dont have much of a problem with sweets, so cake wont be a problem. As for road trips and such, Im really good about taking legal snack foods with me, and if for some reason I dont have anything handy, I just fill up on water until I can get to something legal. It works really well for me.

When we go on road trips I usually have to stop often (I have a bladder the size of a peanut) so I usually stretch and walk around a bit at the rest stops. As for hotel stays, I go out of my way to book a hotel with a pool. Swimming is my favorite thing to do and it takes alot to get me out of the pool.

I do have to work on the hard day of chores thing though. I always forget to eat during busy days and then I end up feeling REALLY hungry when I finally slow down. I need to make more of an effort to keep easy snack foods on hand and take breaks to eat something.

Great homework assignment! Very thought provoking!

Keeping in mind, that you are committed to getting to goal and you are WORTH IT, and stating the postitive things this WOE has done for you, how would you plan to stay the course for......

a BBQ with non Atkins food? ~
I bring my own atkins legal foods to share. Occasionally if they can leave me a non-marinated piece of meat, I'll bring the marinate!

                      a friends wedding? ~
Usually they'll have the menu available and I can check my choices. Otherwise, I've eaten before hand. The last wedding I went to was perfect. Everything was great, I had two slices of the roast, caesar salad (sans croutons), the grilled veggies, and I skipped on the bread and potato.

the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner? ~
I always have those at my house, Turkey for thanksgiving and Leg of Lamb for Christmas. There's always either artichokes or asparagus. I pass on everything else... even my favorite, the yams. If for some crazy reason I were to eat elsewhere for those holidays I'd ask ahead about the menu and bring legal foods to share.

a day of overwhelming chores? ~
Never a problem, I always have the house stocked with snacks that are legal.

a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? ~
There's always something good to eat anywhere you go. If you are going to a foreign country you can always look up the local foods ahead of time and see what ingredients are commonly used. Although for the plane, I usually plan ahead and bring my own legal snacks.

keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars. ~
You'd be suprised how many hotels have gyms, if not just walking around the hotel for an hour should do it. The car situation could be difficult. I suppose if you couldn't leave you might try some small isolated exercises like gyroscopic wrist exercise (sounds crazy but it really is difficult).

                          • a BBQ with non Atkins food? I have always found the meat at BBQ's easy fare for eating, and I always bring a side dish or two! Most host/hostesses love the extra food and no one knows it's low carb.
                          • a friends wedding? Eat before attending. That way if there is nothing legal to eat you aren't tempted at every moment to cheat. Bring a bottle of water and keep filling it up.
                          • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner? Turkey and ham...yummy! Bring a few legal foods for yourself and others to enjoy. There's always a relish tray with fresh veggies. My family doesn't think twice about it because I have a vegetarian aunt who brings many foods to satisfy her diet and I bring Atkins friendly foods.
                          • a day of overwhelming chores? Grab an ounce each of cheese and nuts. Take a rest break for a quick lunch and go some more.
                          • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? I pack several single serving size legal foods, like nuts, cheese, berries, bottles of water. Usually have no problem finding restaurants that will accomodate.

Of course there is always walking/running outside. A good way to get exercise and see the nearby attractions!

i've thrown peace with food away many times, but this time, it's the bigger picture, keep seeking the higher way, the bigger picture and you will move past this place and it will never hold you back again!

                              • Re: I Am Worth It Challenge ~ Wednesday's Assignment
                                • Hey everyone a little late to the party but I wanted to do my homework like a good girl Not much to add to the above really.
                                • a BBQ with non Atkins food?
I haven't had a problem with a BBQ,as sald and burgers are usually there.

                                • a friends wedding?
I have one of these coming up and it is a formally served sit down silver service affair. I figure I'll just decline potates, gravy and anything else like that. If I can't eat anything suitable I just won't eat and say I'm ill or something. I will have snakcs ready in the car.
                                • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner?
I am at my parents this year so I can just eat plain turkey and vegetables. I think making a dessert to share is a great idea too

                                • a day of overwhelming chores?
This is rare! Lol! I'd try and force myself to have time for a snack a least and there is usually some leftover salad in the fridge.
                                • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday?
I had this this year - I took lots of legal food with me and we were staying in a self catering cottage. In a hotel I'd make sure they served full english breakfast, not just continental. Restuarants would be vetted for salads
                                • keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars
I take my running shoes, shorts and sports bra on small trips so I can run. If I have to travel light I do squats, lunges, situps, press ups etc in my hotel room.
