    DAY 5 Friday

    1. Share with the other Challengers, the positive coments you have received as you have lost weight and increased your exercise. Comment on how those remarks made you feel.
"WOW! You look good!" It's fun seeing eyes pop open, even now when I'm struggling to get going again. Currently, there's some concern by others about me doing things, like bike riding and mowing the lawn, but they can be sure I'm being very careful. They definitely understand why I'm trying to push myself just a little bit and will rest afterwards.

    2. Think of how you can be positive when negative remarks are made to you.
State your positive answers to the following:

"Atkins is a fad diet that doesn't work. Why would you choose to do that diet anyway? You know people die from eating no carbs."
"Doesn't work? I can point you to a LOT of people it has worked for, including me. I chose Atkins because I'm eating REAL foods without all the chemical junk in them. I was so sick on WW because of all the junk and high carbs in low- or no-fat foods which, BTW, tastes like crap! I'm not hungry, not craving foods 24/7, and don't want to drop from tremors when I am hungry because my blood sugar is stable.

"And that includes a LOT of vegetables. This is hardly a "no carb" way of eating; I eat more vegetables with Atkins than I do with any other diet."

"You've never stuck with anything. Why not just eat what you want and be happy?"
"I'm quite happy eating what I want, thank you very much! It's just not what you think I should eat and be happy with! If I ate what you think would make me happy, I'll be weak and sickly in no time. "
(Which is what is happening with the white and sugary stuff!!! )

"Your exercise is getting you nowhere. I don't see any changes whatsoever."
"I'm not doing this for you, I'm doing it for me. With that said, I feel the changes. My muscles are slowly stretching and leaning out, getting stronger. The blood is feeding my organs better. My joints can't freeze up as long as they're moving the way they're meant to. And a ton of different hormones are being released through the exercises that are very beneficial to the body and mind. "

"Come on, it's the best carrot cake ever made! It's made special from the Carbs-R-Us Bakery. One piece is not going to kill you."
"If there's sugar, Crisco, corn oil, and/or processed flour in it, forgetaboutit! They're all poison to my system. Not only that, but that little bit will kick in a strong insulin release and that'll keep me from losing any weight."

      • Re: I Am Worth It Challenge ~ Friday's Assignment

        Comments I have received:

"You are thinning down"; "You've lost quite a bit of weight." Nothing really special. However, I did get one from my mom which is kind of a two edged sword, "It looks like you've kept your weight off during this pregnancy, you actually LOOK pregnant this time."

It's nice to know that I've lost enough weight for people to notice. And coming from my mom, that IS a compliment. It makes me feel like I am doing something that is working with results people can see. I suppose the biggest compliment of all is when my mother in law decides to get me a new blouse or something to wear as a gift and whatever she picks out is too big .

"Atkins is a fad diet that doesn't work. Why would you choose to do that diet anyway? You know people die from eating no carbs."

My answer: You're right, eating healthfully is usually a fad. BTW- name a person who has died from eating salads?

"You've never stuck with anything. Why not just eat what you want and be happy?"

My answer: I do eat what I want to. And I'm 20lbs down, why wouldn't I be happy with that?

"Your exercise is getting you nowhere. I don't see any changes whatsoever."

My answer: Exercise isn't always about looking better, it's about feeling better. I don't huff and puff anymore when I walk anywhere and I can pretty much walk for miles now. Besides, all of this extra weight is hiding the ripped muscles I have underneath due to it. Once it's gone, everyone will see the results. Not exercising is certainly the key to getting nowhere - literally.

"Come on, it's the best carrot cake ever made! It's made special from the Carbs-R-Us Bakery. One piece is not going to kill you."

My answer: Thank you for your generosity. My loss; your gain (no pun intended, of course ). That just leaves more of the best cake for YOUR enjoyment!

          DAY 5 Friday

          1. Share with the other Challengers, the positive coments you have received as you have lost weight and increased your exercise. Comment on how those remarks made you feel.

I have to add that I took a year off from work to stay home with my baby and all my relatives and friends are in Texas. Pretty much, I have just received compliments from three people.
Husband "oh wow, you really have lost weight" (he's amazed that I actually did what I said I was)
My friend from work who comes to vist "wow, you look sooo thin" (I haven't been thin my entire life, are you crazy?)
My neighbor "wow, you got back to your pre-baby weight right away" (it only took me 8 months, what are you talking about?) LOL

          2. Think of how you can be positive when negative remarks are made to you.
State your positive answers to the following:

"Atkins is a fad diet that doesn't work. Why would you choose to do that diet anyway? You know people die from eating no carbs."
First of all, Akins is not a diet, it's a way of living- a lifestyle. Second, in Atkins you eat the healthy carbs. And no, I haven't met anyone who's died on Atkins. Have you?

"You've never stuck with anything. Why not just eat what you want and be happy?" Nobody has ever told me that except me to myself before I made a commitment to change my life around. But if someone would ever tell me this I would say. "That's the point, when I eat what I want, I'm not happy. I get fat and miserable. With my new lifestyle I also love what I eat, except it's healthy and I'm happy."

"Your exercise is getting you nowhere. I don't see any changes whatsoever." Again, no one has ever told me this. On the contrary, my husband is all pro excercise and fitness. If I ever get this from someone I would say, "You might not be able to see it under all these clothes and I'm certainly not gonna show you......daaa," but I can assure you I have more energy and stamina then ever before. I have more endurance and strength then the skinny gal next door."

"Come on, it's the best carrot cake ever made! It's made special from the Carbs-R-Us Bakery. One piece is not going to kill you."
You're right! One piece won't kill me, but the 50 grams of sugar in it will stop the fat burning mode I'm in and it'll take me a week to get it restarted. Thanks anyway but please, you go ahead and enjoy it for me.

"Wow, you've really lost weight, what have you been doing?" "Your face looks so much thinner!" "You've been doing well and sticking with it, I'm proud of you." "Mom, you're looking really great!" "You're wearing real jeans, Mom? I don't remember you wearing real jeans ever before!"

The people who don't see me often or know me well made the first 2 comments. It makes me feel that, yes, finally people can see a difference. Nobody said anything until I'd lost nearly 30 pounds, so when I finally did start hearing positive comments, I felt really good, proud and even a little embarrassed. I'm not used to people commenting on my looks.

My family made the last three comments. It helps to have support and affirmation from those nearest and dearest. It does confirm that they appreciate me and are admiring what I'm doing.

                        2. Think of how you can be positive when negative remarks are made to you.

Nobody has died from doing Atkins. If you're eating no carbs, you're not doing Atkins. I eat more vegetables now than I have ever before in my life. I've lost over 40 pounds, it seems to work for me.

"You've never stuck with anything. Why not just eat what you want and be happy?"

I really wasn't that happy being 80 pounds overweight, and I am eating what I want. I feel so much better and I'm happy now.

Actually I'm at a conference for the past couple of days, with customers who would not have seen me for a couple of months. Its been a real ego boost with some of the comments I've had!

Have you done someting with your hair, you look really well.
(no its just my face is thinner!)
                              Your skin is really glowing.
                              (All that lovely water!)
                              You've shrunk!
(Correct - 41" to be exact!)
You look so amazing, you must have lost stones.
(Not quite, but still I really think my scale hasn't caught up with my inch loss, thus I look like I've done better that I actually have!)
                              and my favourite
You must be nearly at goal weight, you don't have much to lose anymore!
(I wish! 40 odd more pounds to go!)

"Atkins is a fad diet that doesn't work. Why would you choose to do that diet anyway? You know people die from eating no carbs."

Atkins is not a fad diet to me, its a woe for life. I choose this woe because of how it makes me feel. Apart from loosing weight, my joint pain has disappeared since I cut out sugar. I am eating wonderful fresh, non processed foods and my appetite is under control for the first time ever. As for the no-carbs, thats just ridiculous. I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. I just say no to carbs that do not offer me any benefit other that provide lots of 'cushioning' for my body.
"You've never stuck with anything. Why not just eat what you want and be happy?"
Because if I do that, I'll be overweight, unhealthy and unhappy. As for not sticking with this woe? I'm happy to say that I've been on this woe for 2 months now and I can promise you, I have not even the slightest bit of inclination to stop. This is it for me now.

"Your exercise is getting you nowhere. I don't see any changes whatsoever."
My body thanks me for the changes. I notice the changes every time I look in the mirror, when I put my clothes on, when I walk up flights of stairs, instead of taking the life without needing cardiac support. Au contraire my friend, my exercise is getting me EVERYWHERE!

"Come on, it's the best carrot cake ever made! It's made special from the Carbs-R-Us Bakery. One piece is not going to kill you."

It may not kill me, but I may have to kill you if you keep trying to sabotage my choice in diet!
If I wanted a piece of carrot cake, I could have one, but why would I sabotage myself for a quick 5 minute gratification, when I am having this ongoing gratification of a healthier body by abstaining from sugary carbs?
Now offer me a bowl of Dom's Cheesecake and I'll love you forever!

I am happy. I don't need food to make me happy anymore. That's the great thing about the way I eat, I'm free!
