Part two is the section of my book that's all dog eared, scribbled in and paper clipped! It's my favorite part of this book.
I am such a lucky girl! I just happened to have books due back at the library on the same day they were having a book sale. I got two, good as new, hardbacks and one new paperback for just a few cents (all the books I could shove in a grocery bag for $3). I didn't even own the 2002 edition before then (had 1999). I can have them all over the house and in the car, too, now!
Sunny! :reading:

Talk about a last minute request. I was wondering if I could be apart of the challange. I was looking for this challenge in the exercise challenges and I think my blonde seeped into my head.
Anyway, today I read part 1 and did the homework as well. I will start part two this week. If it's ok with you, I would be honored to be part of the discussions.
thx,
PS. In part one, I realized that my attitude about Atkins was all about Induction. Now, I understand Induction, but, I have a renewed respect for OWL and maintenance. Thank you for this challenge. I am understanding more about my relationship with food on a daily basis.
Whew, homework is done!! Took longer than I thought it was gonna (to read the book) due to my little "excursion" to Tampa this past weekend... hopefully no distractions will keep from the book for the next go round!!
Sunny.... my thoughts are with you and your brother.

buffy, i would never tell anybody that they couldn't join such an important challenge.
i know that reading the entire part one in one day was too much and probably some things did not soak in but i'm glad you made the effort.

ah... i love OWL! it's the reason you don't want to stay on induction (if you don't have so much to lose) or go back to it if you can help it, imho. once you've had the more veggies, the nuts, the berries and so on, induction is just too restrictive. a good reason to keep strong and steady on!
i was biking while i read so some of my underlining was a bit haphazzard.
one note i made for page 148 was in the section on Measurements. one thing i failed to do is get those measurements at the very start. i did get some along the way but always wonder now what my waist was back then. i know how many inches i had to cut off my belt, though! i underlined the part {quote]And exercise, if you go at it vigorously - and I hope you are following my advice to get moving - can csuse some weight gain because it increases muscle mass....[/quote]
how often we forget that! i've seen this with goalies including myself. many have ended up adjusting that wonderful "goal weight" because we continue to exercise and build our muscle mass. all the statements that Dr. Atkins tell us about reaching our goal weight really should be taken to heart. it isn't all about the number. how we feel, how we look, our age, our maturity (i'm 54, not 24, and i am not going to be able to maintain 102 pounds) all these things and more should be how we determine our goal.
concerning the body mass indes chart: i'm pleased to say that i am at a healthy number now.
on page 162:
....derive the majority of you carbohydrates from the vegetables low in carbs.
one of our very recent goalies, mitzimarie, will say it like this.... that's half plus one.
and on the following page, 163, i want to point out the phrase (emphasis mine)
...know that if you get into trouble , you can always return to Induction for a few days to get your metabolism fired up again.
he didn't say go back to it for 2 weeks or 10 days. he said a few days. why? we learned from earlier chapters that these nasty carbs will be gone from our bodies in 48 hours and then ketosis will return.
good reading! looking forward to chapter 14. i have news to impart!
please feel free to comment on the parts you come across that excite you, confuse you or otherwise. this is all good learning!
