    7. Read chapter 11. Post a sample INDUCTION menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner using the ACCEPTABLE FOODS and provide the carb count. Do not use the sample in the the book and be as specific as you can. For example, state 1/2 cups, whole cups, ounces, etc. These can be actual menus that you have used or made up menus. Counting all the carbs or just net carbs, either way works for this assignment.

    Breakfast (it is my favourite breakfast)
    Scramble of 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, cheddar cheese (1/4cup shredded)
    with the following sauteed veggies:
    2 mushrooms
    1 slice onions
    5 snowpeas
    1 ring red pepper
    1 floret broccoli
    olive oil
    total net carbs 6

    Lunch
    Tuna salad (1box water canned tuna) 2 tbs mayo, 1/2 stick celery
    1/2 tomato, 3 leaves of romaine, 2 slices jicama
    total net carbs 3.2

    Supper
    fried beef 8 oz
    salad out of
    2 slices red pepper
    1 stalk celery
    7 slices cucumber
    1 leaf romaine
    1/4 tomato
    2 tbs ranch dressing
    total net carbs 4.2

    total net carbs 13.4

    8. Nitrates.... why did Dr. Atkins prefer us to use nitrate free bacon, ham, etc.?

    9. Are there any other points or comments you would like to discuss concerning Induction?
    I never figured out the point of the cups (except perhaps convenience) If 20 carbs is the limit why would it not be OK to count the carbs (using fitday for example) rather than measure with cups. Because when you get to OWL you have to start counting the carbs - those cups won't cut it anymore.

      my first answer would be, for example, that when when you have
      1/2 of a tomato, it might be 1/2 cup or it maybe not, depends on the size, the way you cut it [diced, sliced, etc. ] i think a better way of measure is grams and i've seen many members prefer that way of measureing.

      maybe eli or sherri could share some thoughts on this. or any member as far as that goes.

        some of you are so on the ball that you can take the next couple days to scour through your book. since we aren't reading every chapter, this might be a good time just to brush up a bit.

        for anyone who has yet to post an assignment, i would encourage you get those done. you can find the assignments by clicking on the link in my signature.

          1 cup tea w/ sweetener 1
          Total 8 net carbs

          Total 5 net carbs

          Dinner
          6 oz. roasted chicken 0
          1/2 cup green beans 3
          salad w/ dressing 4
          total 7
          Total for day 20

          They are known carcinogens!

          The thing that I never understood was why I stalled on induction but started losing again when I moved up to OWL!

            Jimmie, I will be leaving on a trip tomorrow which will entail 2 days of driving for 10 hours each. I should have access to a computer and I will try my best to post but I might be a little late sometimes. If I miss an assignment, can I make up for it when I return on Tuesday?

              there are no scheduled assignments till sunday or monday. just take your book and read whatever strikes your fancy.

                  veggie/egg scramble

                  item weight carb count
                  red pepper .5 oz .4 gr
                  zuchinni 1.2 oz .57 gr
                  celery 1.2 oz .8 gr
                  green onion .4 oz 1.2 gr
                  3 tbsp olive oil 0 gr
                  eggs 4 2.4 gr
                  bacon 7 pc 0

                  total carb count 5.37 gr (this is divided in half for hubby and me)
                  carbs for individual servings 2.69 gr
                  Lunch:

                  Greek Salad

                  cucumber 3.3 oz 1.16 gr
                  tomatoes 12.3 oz 12.92 gr
                  red onion .7 oz 1.63 gr
                  feta cheese 2 oz 0
                  3tbsp olive oil 0 gr

                  total carb count 15.71 gr (this is divided in half for my hubby and me)
                  carb count for individual serving 7.86 gr

                  Supper

                  swiss chard 7.6 oz 1.33 gr
                  baked trout 8 oz 0 gr

                  total carb count 1.33 gr ( again divided)
                  carb count for individual serving .67 gr

                  total carb count for individual 11.22 gr

                  I know we need 20 gr of carbs daily but this is todays main meals. I haven't included snacks or beverages.

                    Whew, what a God-send! I'll get at yesterday's assignment here in a bit. I've been working OT the past two days with possible mumps/shingles/something... Totally wiped out.

                      i don't pretend to know the science behind this, but it's something that happens quite often. we often see people stuck on extended induction and the some of the ways to get the weigh loss active again is 1. drinking a bit more water 2. increasing exercie or simply changing the exercise routine and 3. upping the vegetables and/or carbs

                        i am seriouly going to have to refer back to this thread for daily menu ideas. some of the stuff y'all posted sounds great!

                        i spent part of my time of the dr. office rereading chapter 11, till i got too loopy to focus.

                        i'm off to work, i think, so long as there is something for me to do but i hope to see a few more updates when i return this afternoon.

                              I personally find it sad that many people totally focus on the amount of weight they lose or don't lose. I personally have enjoyed the energy boost & the clearing of my brain fog! For me this is truly a new way of eating/life & it really is a learning process every single day!

                                Nitrates contain carcinogens. Too bad it's so darn hard to find nitrate-free bacon and ham.

                                Of all the different attempts I've made at Atkins, I would develop asthma like no tomorrow. Some of it may have been from sugar substitutes. Anyway, this time I'll be controlling dairy products (miss my cream cheese already) and see how it goes this time, as l had learned recently our family has allergies to it and may be the cause of my asthma. I'm also not going to sit on induction very long - two weeks, that's it. Sounds like people have more success once they start going up the ladder.
