Sorry this is my first challenge, didn't know I was supposed to post! I am on page 64 - chapter 7. I'm learning alot, except chapter 6 seemed a little repetitive!

Re: 2009 Read The Book Challenge

I have finished part one. I kind of feel like I will need to read it again in a few weeks though, and maybe I will understand better when I am deeper into the diet. Like Mizski I found the parts about insulin revelatory.

sorry, I have started, but not very far. Was away for the weekend, and no time to read...will be doing 'catch-up' the next couple of days. I definitely need to put it in my bag so I can read at work!

Starting Chapter 5 right now. Re-reading the book BEFORE and DURING Atkins is totally different. I actually GET IT now. HA!

Re: 2009 Read The Book Challenge

I've been reading the book. I've split the pages up this week for each day and will be finished with Part one as I have planned.

I read it in my doctor's waiting room yesterday. I kept the cover folded back, and when I saw people out of the corner of my eye trying to see what book I was reading, I would flash the cover.

                    I finished re-reading Ch. 14 last night.

Chapter 6, The Great Fat Meltdown, p.57

Lipolysis is one of life’s charmed gifts. It’s as delightful as sex and sunshine, and it has fewer drawbacks than either of them!
I really don’t understand why EVERYONE isn’t on Atkins.

A secondary process of lipolysis is ketosis. Ketosis occurs when you are taking in a low level of carbohydrates from the food you eat … Lipolysis results in the creation of ketones (that’s ketosis), a perfectly normal and natural function of the body.
I missed this explanation during my initial reads of DANDR. In fact, I thought lipolysis was just a fancy word for ketosis.

                        p. 58 Lipolysis simply means that you’re burning your fat stores and using them as the source of fuel they were meant to be. The by-products of burning fat are ketones. When your body releases ketones—which it will do in your breath and your urine—it is chemical proof that you’re consuming your own stored fat.
This is a great explanation and one I will try to remember when confronted by naysayers who tell me ketosis is bad.
