I am reading the OWL section. I have glanced at it before but since I'm still on induction I hadn't read it properly. I also looked at some of the OWL sticky posts here on the forum because I plan to move to OWL next week and it all seemed so complex ... it's been hard enough trying to get induction right, so I thought how the heck am I going to make sure I get all the right number of carbs from the right things when I start adding new foods?

So being a person who likes things to be well organised, today I sat down and devised a week's menu full of things I like, starting at induction levels, measuring net carbs and cups of veggies and fat: protein:carb ratios etc in the software I use which is like Fitday. Then I did another version adding another 5 carbs of veggies that I can use next week for OWL 1.

I'm sure I will not follow it exactly but I feel way more confident just knowing I have a plan and a basis to work from

"Try not to weigh yourself every day, and, if possible, aim for just once a week."

Now, if I can just get myself to adhere to this I know I would be much happier. I need to quit bowing down to the scale god.

Oh, and I need to go upstairs and take my measurements right now! It's not something I did when I started 2 1/2 wks ago, but I will now.

done with chapter 14 but have to scoot to work.

i will add this note though. after such a long cheerleading section and then the particulars of induction, i truely do wish he would have spent more time on OWL. that is the phase where most people lose it.

Hi -- back (somewhat) and checking in -- I'm on Chapter 12 and hope to get a couple more Chapters read tonight.

Since I've had such a slow time of everything it's a great review of what I am doing and what I should be doing better! Great challenge!

Read Chapters 11 & 12. I'm on the road so not able to do much commentary. I guess I blew by the Blood-Sugar Symptom Test when I first started. I was so focused on eating the right things and taking the right supplements that I didn't pay much attention to this. Now that I'm in OWL, I think this test is important. I wish it was available as a download...thinking of making one up in Excel and making a PDF of it so I can have it to use when I try new foods.

with the week half over, i hope all the challengers, with the exception of bizzlekitty and including myself, are getting to the home stretch of part 2. like i said in the previous post, part 2 was lengthy and required a couple chapters a day if you were spacing it out for the entire week. BUT, if you are getting behind a little bit, please don't give up. just keep reading and by the end of next week, you'll have part 2 and 3 finished.

kudos to everyone that is reading along!

finishing chapter 14 this afternoon....hope to get more reading done. I had blood work done before I started.....4 months after (my reading went up) then again last month -- triglicerides were done for the first time in 5 years but my LDL is up again. Frustrating but I'm still trying to keep my head up and going forward.

                            i've always wondered.......
                            1. how many folks actually have the blood work done prior to starting
                            2. if anybody actually memorizes those rules "as if their life depends on it".
                            3. if everybody measures?
I actually had bloodwork done way back when, but don't remember ever getting the results from it! Guess one needs to be proactive and follow up with the doctor...as my dear daughter says time and again

I've never memorized the rules for Induction but feel that I know them fairly well. Great to review though, because he mentions fibre and psyllium husk, "#12. If you are constipated, mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables." Please note...drink the psyllium husks immediately or it will thicken to glue...most unpalatable.

As far as measuring...measuring ourselves? which I did, or measuring our food? which I do for things like cheese and greens, actually for most things except meat, unless I'm dividing a piece of meat, then I weigh it. I actually weigh food rather than use cups. But I do fall down when it comes to tracking, even with Fitday. In fact I believe I'm almost a week behind...probably cause I just didn't feel like putting in the foods I was able to eat when I was sick. I should head over there right now and input my last 3 days

I'm on chapter 13 now, just a little behind, but I've been re-reading some sections, I'll catch up

                            Have a good day everyone,

yes i meant measuring ourselves but you bring up a good point about foods.
and thanks for the tip on the psyllium husks. i have never used them so didn't know this little gem of information.

not to worry about being just a little behind [which we girls are almost always wanting, btw] the next part is shorten than part 2 and any catching up can be done then.

isn't it hard to get a handle on the numbers? i was a bit frustrated over my higher cholesterol but my HDL was so good that i was told not to worry about the other numbers, the ratio was really good.
