Yay, so glad I'm not out of the challenge. I didn't even log in this weekend because I hadn't finished my assignment! Went to the dr today, finished part 2 in the waiting room, and had blood drawn. I too was very interested reading about thyroid and learned so much! My hair has been falling out but I thought that was a side-effect of losing 92 (!!) pounds since starting last May. I am also constantly cold even though I still have a lot of insulation on me, haha. Dr will test thyroid among other things. It's going to be a long 2 weeks waiting to hear how things are looking in the health department for me.

The section about bingeing and eating off plan was the most interesting part for me because I'm a cheater! I didn't know that about myself before starting Atkins (I have always been a "rule follower") and I'm embarrassed that I can't say I've never eaten off plan. I have fallen several times and since reading about what to do if that happens, I realize that I'm really not alone. I don't feel like such a loser now.

Looking forward to a shorter assignment this week, though I am sooo glad to have joined this challenge and was forced to read every little part of the book so far. I NEEDED to have read all of this and feel newly empowered as I head into the second half of my weightloss journey!

          i have finished chapter 23.... exercise: it's non-negotible

anybody that says you don't need to exercise apparently has never been on any kind of diet plan. i don't care what you did, what you were on, how many diet pills you took, how you ate, counted calories, or not , it's always there, in bold, bright color or hidden in fine print.... exercise is part of the plan. atkins is no different.

do you know your THR zone? has it changed from when you first started exercising?
i have a note [from a prior time] that mine was between 99.6 and 116.2. it is now 98.4 and 114.8

You're right Jimmie about the exercise being non-negotiable. And Dr. Atkins prefers that we get at least 30 min. in one shot, rather than, say, 3 10 min. shots. I understand the point of getting our "furnace" revved up and doing something for 10 min. may not get the job done. I suppose it depends on WHAT the exercise is. 10 min. of jumping rope would definitely get my furnace revved, if I didn't fall flat on my face first, lol Whereas 10 minutes of walking wouldn't even warm me up!

Anyway, I was reading my book at the hospital waiting for my husband to have his ultrasound (kidney problems) and wishing I'd brought my highlighter with me! I'll just reread that part tonight and highlight my "starred" sections.

                Happy Reading

Finished part 3. I appreciated the psychology chapter. I know I have used food (especially sugar) as a drug for so long, I may have trouble with that. You can change habits but there is no way to replace a drug except with another drug which would be even more destructive. You have to learn to live without it. So I will have to work out a strategy for that. I expect the need will kick in as I increase carbs and get out of ketosis so I could probably cope by switching back to a lower carb level in times of stress.

hiya, challengers! it was good to read that a few of you have finished up part 3. i also like seeing the comments about what you are learning, what is being reinforced and so on.

i didn't read today. did paperwork some of the day, worked part of the day and cleaned a little. i'll most likely get part 3 done tomorrow.

Well, by mistake I read both Parts 3 and 4 so I guess I'm ahead of schedule. I didn't realize it til I turned the page and it said Part 5.

Not much in the way of comments other than why is so much of the population still convinced that low fat/calorie counting is the way to lose weight, avoid heart disease, control diabetes, etc?? There's so much bad information out there that has become publicly accepted.

how about you being done! you must have liked what you were reading!

you know, bizzle, i wonder the same thing. have you ever stood in the grocery line and looked at what the people in front of you are buying? i swear, i watch and i see very fat, obeses people throwing weight watcher food, low fat this, no sugar that, skim milk and all the other so called good for you foods. and i think to myself, what a waste of money. do they look at themselves and say "oh yeah, that low fat prepared dinner is really working on me now!"
and you know what else? watch the skinny people eat. more times than not, they are buying fresh vegetables, fruits, yogurts, fresh meats and usually not cereal and candy and doughnuts, low fat or not.

ack... i could go on but won't. i'm just glad that everybody here, especially my challengers, are reading that there is a better way, what i call the sensible way, to get healthy.

                        ---------
i finished part 3 just a little bit ago while biking. that would be a stationary bike for you who might be wondering.
not much to say on the subject of vitamins. i take 'em, have for a long time, will continue to do so. i start and stop a couple of things, depending on the time of year but have my daily, all the time supplements, too.

i hope to be filling in a few x's by the end of the day. most everyone is doing a fantastic job of reading. i like that!

i ordered the 1972 version of the book. got it yesterday and spent a little bit of time leafing through it last night. i have to say, i'm glad we don't follow that version, although, it is the version i did back in 1975. it will be interesting to read through and see some of the major changes that took place between 1972 and 2002.

Since I started Atkins, I've really started paying attention to what others eat, at grocery stores, at restaurants, at friends houses, commercials on TV, etc. You wish you could say something, or even when you do, it falls on deaf ears. Even friends and family who are having health issues related to their eating. But as Dr. Atkins said, be a living example of how well this WOE works. Not everyone has weight and other issues, either because of their life style or good genetics, but for those of us who do, low carb eating is the best for us.

I think this book re-read has helped cement how and why this WOE works, and why it's so key to do all the right things for me.

Hi Guys, Finished part 3 last night, will start part 4 today.
Today is my birthday and your comments on what people have in their shopping baskets made me think about the changes to my celebrations. Previously the day would revolve around food, presents would include chocolates, there would be birthday cake, friends would take me to lunch and my husband would take me to dinner. I would go to bed stuffed and uncomfortable feeling that I had had a great birthday but that I really must start a diet tomorrow. Now everyone who matters knows I low carb, I no longer get or want chocs or cake and nobody questions my food choices at meals. Tonight I am expecting to go to bed knowing I have had another great birthday and also I may have a little smile on my face knowing I have had a great Atkins day. Bad Carbs do not control my life now and I truely do not miss them.
