    Hi Brats,

Have you tried flax? I get cravings at night sometime. And one of the most wonderful things to stop my snacking, fill me up, and tastes yummy too is flax hot cereal. I use 1 splenda, 2tbls ground flax seed, 1/2 cup boiling water, and 1/2 tsp of flavoring. Usually vanilla but coconut is yummy too. Pour the boiling water over it, stir, let sit for a minute or so and enjoy!!! And it is soooo good for you. The nutrition board says 4 gr carbs..4 gr fiber!! But I count 1 carb per tbls. (Book said I should) lol
You will like it if you like cream of wheat. Tastes just like it. You can also add a few tsp of cream. Hope this helps.

Funny I just read your post as I was finishing up some cinamon toast. Toast meaning microwave flax bread. Although I enjoyed it I believe i did something wrong. The recipe says like a loaf will come out of the batter, I got 2 normal size slices of bread. My flax bag says 3tbsps 10 carbs - 10 fiber. I tried the cereal the other day and it seemed really like sticky kind of goopy. Maybe I did something wrong. Is it supposed to be that way?

It does have a goopy consistency..I make mine a bit thin so it doesn't bother me. It just reminds me of how oatmeal used to be when I used brown sugar.....Glad you have flax. I haven't ever made the bread. Is it good? How did you make it?

        Hugs,Tammy

Edited to say...seems all flax has different nutritional info. Thats why Book said just count 1 carb for 2 tbls. Either way..it's virtually no net carbs.

The bread was good, it was very similar to real bread in texture. Close enough it would make a french toast or a sandwich probably. As I said I think it was supposed to make a larger loaf but still trying to understand that one. I am going to try the cereal again, maybe if I give it a better grind it will help it out a bit. Thanks for the tip. I was trying those darn donuts with the mix but good lord I could become addicted to those things. Last night I even made like a popover with them good stuff. However, much more dependant on it and I'll be in the kitchen at 2 am. snorting the stuff. LOL Oh and the edit made me feel better cause I ate both slices containing a total of 4 tbsp. Either way I'm good but still....

Hi All: Just checking in for the week. And, I'm happy that I came in on the discussion of flax. I just bought some on Friday and made flaxcakes for breakfast the last two days. I loved them! I can't believe that I've been missing out on that little treat. Plus, there's the added benefit of keeping me regular...color me happy!

Tammy: I'm going to try your flax cereal next.

As for my kick-it up goals, I've been struggling this week. My department is talking lay-offs...AGAIN! I'm using that as an excuse, but I know that I really need to get back on track. My ab exercises are the first to go whenever I feel stressed. I'm still watching the carbs in the PM, but need to keep doing thoses ab exercises.

On a positive note, I hit the weights on Friday, and spent 4 hours painting my living room on Saturday. My entire body was in pain on Sunday. However, my living room is going to look lovely!

            Have a great week everyone!

              Hey Girlie,

Glad you got your living room painted. What color?? Thats hard over the head work. Should be good for working those biceps....back work too!!
              ouchy!! :sympathy

What kind of ab workouts are you doing? Thats where I need to start...I've been doing the WATP 2 mile for the last week, everyday. I even did it today and it was a rest day for me. But my belly (No, not a tummy yet) is really starting to get wiggly!!! I'm afraid to do crunches because of my back..but anything else that will help, I'm open for suggestions.

              You'll love the cereal :nod

Tammi, the one tape I have has an interesting lower ab exercise. Lay on the back feet on floor knees in the air. Take one leg and cross it over, like the ankle touching the other knee. Then you lift your legs rather then your body. It really is something you feel but no back stress. The rest of the tape kills me but I find myself just doing these leg lifts when I'm sitting in front of tv. I hate ab exercise normally so for me to have something good to say about one is like a miracle.

Oh my gosh...I just did 5 of those on each position (I switched legs) and my muscles are really feeling it. And it didn't hurt my back.Thank you so much brats...how many should I be doing to start with??

I have no idea. The tape I have is Denise Austin and although she works you out I have come to believe she is insane. LOL. She does like reps of 10 then switches legs and does more. I would just go with what felt right at first. Then work up, but I thought it was probably a good exercise for me cause I have the C-section gut and nothing else really seems to target that lower belly.

I know what you mean...I have the hysterectomy gut!!! I was able to get it back in shape for a few years after the surgey..but then the weight came on with a fury and I let myself go. Thanks Brats for the toast idea..and the ab work...Have a good night. Sweet dreams...

Hey Tammy: The color of my living room is called Filoli Antique Lace. It's a warm beige. It turned out great. And, it was quite the workout. I have 16 foot vaulted ceilings, so I spent the day climbing up my 16 foot ladder, very, very carefully. My entire house is white, so there are many hours of painting in front of me.

As for the abwork, I do a lot of crunches, around 100. I do 25 to the center, 25 to each side, 25 of the butt lifts. Then I add in a few pelvic tilts, butt crunch, with a center lift combo. So far, I still hate them all. Then again, that's why I still have the belly!

I agree with Brats. Do as many as you can, then add one more each night. Have fun!

Wow, Thats a lot of ab work!! My back would pack up, and divorce me if I put it through that...

Thanks for the tip...I can really feel it in my muscles. So I'm hoping that this will be the ticket...

(Granny, this is not in any way to be construde as an additional pledge in our challenge) :yikes Forgot Granny was watching this thread,...lolol

A comment on the flax cereal you'all were talking about...

Here is my newest discovery/recipe/invention... and it is YUMMY.

1 tablespoon ground flax seed (or flax meal)
                            2 tablespoons wheat bran
                            1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
                            1/2 ounce cream cheese
1 tbsp Da Vinci Sugar Free Chocolate or Strawberry syrup
                            Pinch of salt

I put the flax, wheat bran, cinnamon and salt in my little coffee grinder and give it a few whirrrrs. Dump in a bowl. Add the flavored syrup and enough water to make a fairly thin mixture. Microwave for 30 seconds. Add the cream cheese, stir, microwave for 15 seconds, stir again until the cream cheese is mixed in well.

Mmmmm MMMMMmmmm MMmmmmm -- Reminds me of the old fashioned chocolate pudding my mother used to make. Of course, my mother was a TERRIBLE cook, but still... Honest, it's good! And it doesn't have that "slimey" consistency that just flax alone has. And a great way to get in the fiber when you need it. I use this as a late night snack.

                              Joan,

Can you have wheat bran on induction? And will I find it in the same isle that I get the flax from? I am so confused about protein powders, soy isolate, wheat bran..never used any of them before and have no idea what is induction safe, other than the flax???
