  • Re: Mother's Day Challenge

Oy, what a week. Kids are on the mend, today was the first day since last Sunday that someone did not run a fever!!!!

I didn't take very good care of myself. I was supposed to ride my bike three times, but I only rode it twice. Today while out of town for two soccer games I ate an Atkins Advantage Bar and drank a Diet Pepsi. Very poor planning on my part!

    I will do better!

    Congrats on the loss, Steph!!!
Elsie, two more yummy looking recipes, thanks!!!
Catestar, good job staying on the tighrope! Falling off is just not worth it!
    Lisa, love the new pic!!

      Hi all,

checking in for Mon morning. Made it through the weekend- just! Did slip up & have some sausages on Sat night even though I know they have wheat starch in them - don't even like sausages normally - what is it about BBQ'd snags that is so appealling? Thankfully stayed in ketosis although gained a pound for my troubles. Will stay off the scale until Thurs.

Otherwise nothing much to report - still on strong meds for this ?@*^^& allergic reaction which is just not going away & has the docs stumped- so if nothing else, I need to focus on the fact that even if i'm not losing weight this week, I certainly haven't gained masses as in the past when I've had to take steroids.

Have a great Suday night guys!

I'd like to join up on this, all be it a little late - but here goes!

        1) Reach 165lbs by Mothers Day!
        2) Go to the gym EVERY morning after work
        3) Stop beating myself up because progress is slow

          Hey everyone,
well, this weekend was not a good one for me. I hate that i have to write that down. I have to be honest, though, and just pick myself up and stick to the rules. Why is it that the induction rules are SO simple and clear cut, but I try to fudge them a bit? Why is it that I (or we?) chose to not stick to the list of foods? I know what to do...Maybe i'm afraid of being at my goal weight? I wonder if that is the case sometimes b/c when i lose a few lbs., I have a hard time sticking to the plan/WOE b/c maybe I feel comfortable with where I am, even though I'm really not...Does that make ANY sense at all, or am i just talking a bunch of non-sense and trying to make up excuses for myself. I'd like to say that i'm just making up excuses as i'm typing this, but when I'm hungry, and during the hectic day with triplets and errands, and working out, and paying bills, making doctor appointments, cleaning the house, doing laundry, and making dinnner, somehow, I think that a few macadamia nuts won't hurt b/c they are low in carbs. BUT....they are not allowed in induction, so....i don't know. I guess i'm just brainstorming this morning before i hit the gym. I'm going to make some tuna and chicken salad so that when I come home from the gym, i'm not going to grab a protein bar for convenience, but rather foods that are appropriate. I guess i just figured out my "problem". I'm not prepared! I need to prepare some meals, that way I won't grab nuts or protein bars that are not allowed on induction. Something so darn easy that's just throwing my ketosis out of whack.
Questions: HOw do you measure your ketosis? Stix?
Do you eat Atkins bars or shakes on occasion?
How much water do you drink?
          How are your energy levels?
What do you grab when you are on the run?
Thanks for the help. Talk to you all soon.

Wonderwoman, you were not alone this weekend. I did not prepare myself for a busy weekend and I ended up having some frankenfoods! Totally lack of planning on my part. But it is not the end of the world, we just need to totally get it right again today.
I will answer your questions according to how they pertain to me.
HOw do you measure your ketosis? Stix? I use the stix, otherwise I can kid myself that I am in ketosis. Some people don't ever use them and get along fine.
Do you eat Atkins bars or shakes on occasion? I try not to, they kick up my cravings. One a week wouldn't affect me, but any more would and has stalled me. They are considered a Frankenfood by many.
How much water do you drink? My goal is 64oz. a day, but like to drink more if I exercise.
How are your energy levels? After my two week induction period was over, my energy level has been very high.
What do you grab when you are on the run? Bag of pork rinds and a bottle of water or Diet Rite if I feel like I just have to have it. (However this weekend I caved and had an Atkins bar and Diet Pepsi, as there was no Diet Rite in the store. ) Grab and go snacks seems to be a stumper, if you have stuff already prepared in the fridge it's great, but trying to pick something up once I'm out is difficult. I like to hear other people's solutions to that.

Stacy...so good to hear everyone is finally on the mend! I am busy trying to get DD in soccer this week...might not be able to as it starts this week. Will be our first time doing soccer.

Cate...you are doing great to even maintain while on steroids.

              Mellyissa....WELCOME!!!

Wonderwoman....how long have you been doing Atkins? Don't be afraid to move on into OWL if you have done more than your 2 weeks. I continue to lose while on it.

              Answers:
How do you measure your ketosis? Stix? I never have used them. I don't see a need to if I am following the plan it will come off. Sometimes fast..sometimes slow.
Do you eat Atkins bars or shakes on occasion? Nope..Never have. I have read too many posts about it stalling people.
How much water do you drink? Minimum 12 cups...usually 16 cups...sometimes more
How are your energy levels? When my ratios are balance and I am eating vegies, meat and cheese and all my water it is great.
What do you grab when you are on the run? I carry a couple of cheese sticks and have hotrods (slimjims) in the van. If I know ahead of time that I might be away from home when I will start to get hungry I make a whey protein drink (icetea) in a mason jar (I add extra water to it) and will drink that. Between that and a cheese stick I very seldom have to even eat the hotrod. I am at the stage now that I could bring a serving of nuts. Also could have pork rinds but they are a trigger food for me.

So I recommend to have the hotrods and some nuts(good reason to climb the rungs) in the car at all times. JMO

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome!

I know how you feel wonderwoman, you'd think that induction would be easier to follow because it's so clear cut. I think to myself sometimes "as long as I'm counting the net carbs and they stay under 20 then I'm good" - WRONG! I know it, just don't always do it.

I'm gonna have a hard time this week with the exercise challenge I set for myself. I'm working a 12 day stretch with no day off, so all I want to do is sleep.

                Okay, enough whining from me!

Here are my answers to the questions......
HOw do you measure your ketosis? Stix? I use the Ketostix for motivation, I usually stay in the medium to dark purple range. Although it doesn't mean I'm losing lbs. or inches.
Do you eat Atkins bars or shakes on occasion? Truthfully, being a single gal living by myself I barely have enough money to but the groceries I need to do this diet. I can't afford most of the Atkins brand products.
How much water do you drink? Usually the 64oz a day.... usually
How are your energy levels? Horrible, but that could be work related
What do you grab when you are on the run? Pepperoni and cheese. Makes me feel like I'm eating pizza, but w/o the bread, and it's quick on the run!

Good luck to everyone, thanks for having me. Talk to you all soon!

Hi everyone! My laptop power supply cord broke so that's why I haven't been checking in. I am not looking forward to having to post all the days of exercise for the 6 wk challenge hehe. JSJ please keep 152 as the goal. Sorry about the mistake! Elsie LOL you keep making me hungry with all those delicious-looking recipes! Well I have been staying on track, taking supplements, water, exercise and all that stuff. My answers to the atkins questions asked:

How do you measure your ketosis? Stix? I used to measure with the stix, now I don't really measure it.
Do you eat Atkins bars or shakes on occasion? Nope never. When I did they stalled my loss.
How much water do you drink? 8 cups a day or more
How are your energy levels? Typically high when on plan
What do you grab when you are on the run? Cheese, nuts/seeds, Cut Up veggies with dip, Hard boiled egg

I hope everyone is doing well and has a great day!

Okay, I've made a decision. I'm going to start my induction over. I feel like I need to do a clean induction, that maybe I've been a little too careless. I really want to make this work for me anyway I can. I know it hasn't even been a month yet, but I feel like it's better to correct your mistakes early on in the game.

So, with that said - I'm off to a new and improved start.

Hey guys sorry I have been MIA for a few days. Unfortunately, My Great Grandma just passed away and I'm taking it pretty hard. I have to go to Jersey for the wake and the funeral. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon and won't get back until sometime Saturday.

I have been staying on plan, and I will keep it that way. My weigh in day is supposed to be Friday but since I won't be here, I am going to weigh tomorrow and again on Sunday. I have my Diet Rite and my water all ready to go.

On a kinda lighter note, last year DH;s uncle passed away. Well, I had nothing to wear so I had to go and buy 2 new alphits. One of the pairs of pants are 16's and the others are 14's. I am wearing an 11 now. I cannot afford anything new, so I am wearing the pants a LOT lower with a belt to keep them on my hips, and got them hemmed to take care of the extra length. They look so much better now, but they are still huge on me. This will be the last time ever that I can pull these pants off.

Well, I will check in as much as possible, but I can't make any promises. I am so sorry to leave you guys for so long, but what can you do, ya know??

Take care you guys and stick with this, I know you can do it!!!

JSJ, am thinking of you during this time.

Hope you all are doin gwell, and keeping to the clean induction. I've been really good with my water. Also, for those of you who like diet rite but are trying to not drink it, this helped me at the store last time: I didn't go down that aisle, and i didn't buy it at all, so the only thing i can drink is water and what i do is put it in a sports bottle with ice, and it's just really refreshing! what a difference it makes too on the swollen hands and puffy face in the a.m.!
(That's a question for you all: Do you all wake up with it being hard to put on your rings in the a.m.?...are you slightly swollen in the a.m., or not? for some reason, i have always been that way in the a.m.)
Please let me know when you get a sec.
                                Thanks!
