  • Re: JANUARY Weigh?? No WAY!! Challenge!!!

Half-way there -- thank God! Well, actually, I'm not quite half way b/c I signed for that %#@& board-wide challenge. What the heck was I thinking??

That's cool about the pants, Julie. My "before" too-tight pair of jeans that I could barely button in December I've actually worn out in public a couple of times now. They aren't loose by any means... they hug my curves... but they do indeed fit! And the suit I wore yesterday and the pants I'm wearing today are now officially to big to wear again, I think. I gotta get some stuff altered...

This morning, I was VERY tempted to weigh at the gym. I even thought to myself, I could just do it and not tell anyone... But, honesty and commitment and fear of wet noodles prevailed and I held on to my resolve.

Have a great no-weigh day, guys.

Well done on the resolve people!

Is TOM bloat, so no point weighing anyway at the moment.

I love the cartoon - very reminiscent of all maths exams I've ever had. Shudder.

Juli- didn't you take your measurments before the challenge? I hope you did because that can help when you are feeling "low. Its a no weigh challenge and not a no measurment challenge, right?

Maggie I did indeed take measurements...but I was feeling so huge that I was afraid to even measure myself!!! You know what else I realized? I was feeling a little down yesterday...and I think it's because I didn't exercise! I didn't have that endorphin high on my day of rest...isn't that funny? I'm now addicted to exercise.

Oh me too! I love exercise - it makes me feel so much better! I NEVER thought I'd say that. If someone like me who has always hated sports and running and anything like that can change enough to say I love exercise, then anyone can!

If I have a bad day the gym always makes me feel better. One thing that worries me is that I've felt like this about exercise before (when I was studying before I couldn't cope without a daily run) but then I let it slide. I guess signing up to lots of exercise challenges will stop that happening!

Edit comment - I must be hyper from the gym right now - I never usually sprinkle exclamation marks so liberally!!!!!!

              January 18, 2007: DAY 18

Here's your SCALE SCOFF for the day, 1/18/07:
              The Weigh Scale
Two kids went into their parents bathroom and noticed the weigh scale in the corner. "Whatever you do," cautioned one youngster to the other, "Don't step on it!"

              "Why not?" asked the sibling.

"Because every time mom does, she lets out an awful scream!"

I hope everyone is NOT weighing and feeling OK about it! I alternate between being horribly panic-y and obsessively thinking about my progress, and having a zen-like confidence that the plan is working and I'm losing as I should be.

Wow -- I beat Julie here today. I want to report that this morning at the gym, I had to wait for a shower. (So what, you're thinking.) Well, what's important about that is that I had to stand there, next to the scale, with time to kill.... I kept looking at it. It kept looking at me. I didn't step on it, but MAN was it tempting.

Tomorrow is my normal weigh day. I think I'm going to skip measurements b/c my dear uncle TOM is here. No sense aggravating myself.

                Have a great day, guys.

I am really struggling with this challenge. I almost weighed this morning! I was just going to step on it and get it over with.

I didn't weigh, but it was very tough not to. I didn't want to come in here and confess that I had failed.

Thanks, everybody for keeping me accountable.

QUOTATION:The bathroom scale knows nothing of extenuating circumstances. ATTRIBUTION:Mason Cooley (b. 1927), U.S. aphorist. City Aphorisms, Eighth Selection, New York (1991).

I am not tempted to weigh this morning! Yesterday I was though, because my boyfriend stopped, looked at me, and said "Wow. You look REALLY skinny. I mean, even since yesterday, you look thinner today." However, he said this at about, oh, 7pm, and I certainly DON'T weigh any other time than right off the bat in the morning. Tomorrow I will take measurements to see if I've lost any inches.

Floyd, congrats on fighting temptation! Step away from the scale, I repeat, step away from the scale.

                        January 20, 2007: DAY 20

Here's your SCALE SCOFF for the day, 1/20/07:
Did you hear about the heavyset guy who had tried every diet in the world in an attempt to lose weight? He tried the Scarsdale diet, the Navy diet, Weight Watchers, and many more. None worked.

Then, one day, he was reading the Washington Post when he noticed a small ad that read:

                        Lose weight, Only $1.00 a pound, Call (202) 555-0238

The man decided to give it a try and called the number. A voice on the other end asked, "How much weight do you want to lose?"

                        The man responded, "Ten pounds."

The voice replied, "Very well, give me your credit card number and we'll have a representative over to your house in the morning."

About 9:00 am the next morning the man gets a knock on the door. There stood a beautiful redhead, completely naked except for a sign around her neck stating, "If you catch me, you can have me."

Well, the hefty fellow chased her upstairs, downstairs, over sofas, through the kitchen, all around the house. Finally, panting and wheezing like a dog, he did catch her. When he was through enjoying himself, she said, "Quick, go into the bathroom and weigh yourself." He did just that and was amazed to find that he had lost ten pounds, right to the ounce!

That evening he called the number again. The voice on the other end asked, "How much weight do you want to lose?"--to which the somewhat-less-overweight man replied, "Twenty pounds."

"Very well," the voice on the phone told him, "Give me your credit card number and we"ll have a representative over to your house in the morning."

At about 8:00 am the next morning the man receives a knock on the door. When he opens the door he sees a beautiful blonde dressed only in track shoes and a sign around her neck stating, "If you catch me, you can have me." The chase took a good while longer this time and the man nearly passed out, but he finally did catch her. When he was through she told him, "Quick, run into the bathroom and weigh yourself." He ran to the bathroom and found he had lost another 20 pounds!

"This is fantastic!" he thought to himself. Later that evening the called the number again and the voice at the other end asked, "How much weight do you want to lose?"

                        "Fifty pounds!" the man exclaimed.

"Fifty pounds?" the voice asked, "That's an awful lot of weight to lose at one time." The man replied,"Listen buddy, here's my credit card number, you just have your representative over here in the morning!" and he hung up the phone.

About 6:00 am the next morning the man gets out of bed, splashes on some cologne and gets all ready for the next representative.

At about 7:00 am he gets a knock on the door. When he opens the door, he sees this large gorilla with a sign around his neck stating, "IF I CATCH YOU, I CAN HAVE YOU"

I almost wandered onto the scale, half-asleep again. But luckily I had just woken from a dream where I was taking measurements--so I did that instead this morning. My measurements weren't quite as good as my dream (in my dream I had lost 2 inches in my biceps!) but I did manage to lose 2.5 inches this week. Not too much longer, and we can say we made it 31 days without being a slave to the scale!!!

I like the scale scoffs - especially day 19's

No weighing - but not for a good reason, because I went totally off plan on Saturday at an official dinner thing and feel like the pasta, cake and yorkshire pudding I ate has puffed up to 8 times it's usual size and is just sitting in my stomach - I really don't want to know what I weigh. Back to the plan now.

I like day 20's scoff, Julie.

FG, great job for resisting. I have to admit that lately I've been thinking... I could just step on the scale, no one would know.... But, I'd be lying to myself just as much as to you guys -- how dumb is that? It's funny -- the reason I've been wanting to weigh is b/c it's TOM (nearing the end, thank God) and I feel heavier -- like I've gained 10 pounds. So, I want to weigh to reassure myself I haven't. When I feel skinny(ish), I'm curious, but not nearly as tempted.

Congrats on the 2.5 inches Julie -- that's like 10 total for you just this month, isn't it?? I skipped doing measurements this Friday -- felt way too bloated. I'll do it this Thursday before I go out of town. I'm also going to recommit myself to Fitday this week -- I've been slack the past two weeks... which is dangerous when I'm not weighing.

Here's your SCALE SCOFF for the day, 1/22/07:

I go up and down the scale so often that if they ever perform an autopsy on me they'll find me like a strip of bacon - a streak of lean and a streak of fat. ~Texas Guinan

The closest I've come this month to actually weighing myself was yesterday. I tried on pants that I haven't worn in years, some size 14, some size 12, and I found many that fit--so they were promptly moved into my closet to replace the 16s that were sitting there. Ohhhhhhhhhh I wanted to weigh so badly! But I knew how I would feel so ashamed if I'd done that, since I promised to do this challenge...let me tell you, it was HARD to stay off the scale!!!
