    I was reading in one of those "women's magazines" this weekend about an "ab diet". I blew off the actual diet, because it has stuff that's poison to me (wheat & bread products). However I did read something interesting it was saying about women who retain fat in their mid sections. I have that problem, and you had mentioned it. The article was saying that the diet worked different for women than men. If women had several (5-6) small meals or snacks a day of 500 or less calories, they had better results and slimmer bellies than if they ate the same food in 3 meals a day. I thought that was interesting, and thought I might try eating smaller, more frequent meals. I normally eat a good breakfast and lunch and more or less snack on veggies for supper.

    Anyway, thought you might find it interesting. It's not against anything Dr Atkins suggested, so I'm going to give it a try for awhile and see what happens.

      I know what you mean about pictures. I'm not sure what it is that looks so different from the way we see ourselves. I'm not sure I have any words that will make you feel better about them, but I remember some pictures that I saw for the first time of me that I thought were horrible. But somehow, after 10 years sometimes--when I look back at them I go, "Wow, I really looked pretty good then." I think we get hypercritical of ourselves and focus on things that other people never see. Don't be afraid to have your picture taken, they grow on you and you'll feel better about them in time. Also, don't deprive your family of seeing you as you are now. I wish I had more pictures of me with my dad through the years. Me avoiding the pictures deprives me of some comfort now.

      Enjoy your wedding and let your inner beauty show, that's the only beauty that really matters to the people who love you. You've worked so hard and come so far, be confident and show off. You look better than you think!

      Hope your appointment with "That EVIL woman" goes well, I'm not particularly crazy about mine with her this evening. I do have a lot of incentive to work hard to do it right, though, 'cuz what I did yesterday wasn't close to doing it right!

      Sorry I'm so wordy today, must be because of too much quality time with family! lol

        OK - So here I am feeling completely UNMOTIVATED to exercise today, I tell myself that I HAVE to do Start It Up. I have NO reason not to except for feeling lazy. Guess what? I couldn't find it. It got misplaced somewhere during the project I mentioned in my last post. So, instead of taking the obvious 'out', I popped in the only disc I could find....(insert foreboding music here)...Burn It Up. Oh my! Well, I do have to say that I was actually having fun but 3/4 the way through the squats I felt like I was going to fall over. That's all I was able to do. So, tomorrow my goal is to make it through the Warm Up and Squat sessions completely.

          Slimndown, Great job on Burn it up! I started it Monday and thought I was going to collapse before I was done. Fired it up again last night and did better than Monday. I was muttering under what breath I had left at one point that the squat **** can't possibly be human. I think she's a robot!

          I was admiriing my leg muscles last night. I have to say that they're right when they say you'll reshape your body in 6 weeks. I have 3 weeks to go, and I think I'm looking much better already.

          We went swimming last night, too. I really don't like indoor pools much, too noisy and the chlorine smell is too strong. We only stayed 30 minutes, but it was so cold that it was easy to keep swimming laps. It's also easier to swim with less body mass than last year.

          One possible downside of this exercising is my daughter. She's been doing it with me, and she's lost a half an inch in her waist. That's about the only part of her that had any excess flab, so she's looking really good. In fact, she's feeling so good about herself that she asked a boy to "go out" with her. He said yes! I know she's almost 13, but YIKES! I'm not sure I'm ready for this. Of course at her age I have tons of control over when she sees him, so we'll work it out. They're both on the brainiac side, so it's a pretty good match for her age. I'm glad her self esteem is better. I know how hard it is to feel good about yourself and your body at that age. Hopefully I'm being a good example for her.

            hey everyone! just wanted all of you to know i am alive and well...well sort of except when i finish that darn "burn it up". that is KILLER. i am doing it each day after work. i have been so so busy with the last week of school "stuff" and i have not been too good at reporting in but I AM HERE! i am ONE POUND from goal this morning. can't wait...then i think i'll shoot for another 5. hang in there gang...as much as we hate this it works!

              OMG - They really don't call it Burn It Up for NOTHING! OK, so I only did the warm up and the first squat section - about 12 minutes worth. That was ALL I could take, but I MADE myself finish that section. A year and a half ago, Start It Up was AGONY, but I wasn't in shape AT ALL and 20lbs heavier when I started. Just this month, Ramp It Up wore me out, but it wasn't quite agony. I wouldn't describe Burn It Up as agony but it certainly is quite the challenge. It's kicking my butt and I will probably be sore tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing my HUGE muscles when I lose my fluffy pillow shell. I can feel them - especially when I'm working out.

              The goal for me is to keep doing what I have done for tomorrow and Friday, then add in the next section starting Monday.

                hiya slim! yea the first time i did burn it up i thought i was gonna croak! it is SO FAST and that chick does not let up. even monday when i was doing it i remember thinking, phew i need to stop and catch my breath. those pull down to the side while you are pulling the knees up thing darn near knock me out. i might as well be jumping around on a pogo stick or something....but i am not giving up and it sounds like you aren't either!

                i know what you mean about the muscles. today my son came in from the gym from lifting weights and made a muscle and asked if i could see a difference. so i flexed MY biceps and he said "wow mom,,,,got a little definition there!" yea baby....something when the kiddos notice! (right caryl?) i'm off to deal with the pixie.

                  Miss South - not giving up here for sure! It SURE is something if your kids are noticing your definition, keep it up!

                  I just got back from dealing with the Squat **** myself and am proud to say that I stuck with my goal. I am surprised that I'm not sore today - but I'm not complaining.

                    Hey guys, I've survived 3 days of Burn it up. Boy, I definitely have no trouble sleeping after doing that. It's getting marginally easier, but best of all the scales have started moving again! I've lost 3 pounds in the last 2 days. I wore a new pair of pants yesterday and they were a little tight. By the end of the day, they seemed loose. Whatever's causing it, I'm really grateful. The pixie is worth it, even though I want to throw my hand weights thru the tv when she says "Now 8 more".

                    Congratulations, Misplaced Southerner, I'm so proud you're so close to goal! Are you doing pre-maintenance now, or going to wait until after the honeymoon? I've been staying on extended induction. I have so much to lose and I've been trying so many new vegetables that I haven't gotten bored. I'll probably start going up the rungs after the weddings this summer.

                    There are several things in Burn it up that I'm staggering all over the living room trying not to hurt myself doing. I still haven't managed to do the entire workout, but I keep trying and do more each day.

                    It is so great when you can impress the kids with your muscles. I had some before, they just didn't show up under all the fat. Now they're starting to peek through!

                    Way to go slimndown! This is tough, but I think we're going to see some major results. I don't mind working hard at this if it really helps. I'm surprised I really haven't been sore, either. My hip was kinda aching last night, but seems to be fine today. Does anybody else think of chocolate ice cream during the "double crunches" or is it just my obsession? I can't say I particularly crave it after doing them, thank goodness. I am totally exhausted after doing BIU, but I'm sure the endurance will build up.

                        hey slim and caryl! well my saga continues with the squat ****. i have 4 complete weeks left to go til the wedding. i am going to do burn it up for 5/7 days a week til then. i am out of school as of today so i have absolutely no excuse. i have been doing good but now i am gonna do better. i still hate it as much as ever but.....

                        i am gonna wait on any kind of maintenance until after the wedding. i have not weighed for a couple of days. i have not felt too good and did not want to bug myself over it but i will weigh in the morning. saturday is my official day so it is ok . i don't understand WHY it is bugging me so much...i KNOW I will get there....eventually. maybe because now in my head, i am going to call 155 goal #1. then i will shoot for 150...but first things first.

                        and those double crunches....i am too busy saying many bad words to think of much more.....i might be a double crunch flunkie....but i get an A for effort!

                          Hey, ya'll!
                          I took Thursday as a rest day, I was having aches and pains--too much wet weather here. Worked out Friday and swam laps for 45 minutes. Didn't work out Saturday, aches were back, but I did swim about 30 minutes. I'm feeling better today, so I'll Burn it up here in a little bit.

                          I was not doing well on my diet, not horrible, but I did have a couple of slips. I'm disappointed in myself. However, I'm not going to let it stop me. I found a journal to write my meals down. I'm not near the computer enough all the time to do Fitday. I'm going to start the journal and try harder. I still think the steroids affect me, even if they are eyedrops. I'm just glad I have this place to come to re-inspire me when I'm down on myself. I haven't gained any weight back YET. I just can't start cheating, though and expect to lose. It's good to have a place to be accountable and other people who understand and lift you up.

                          Well, back to the Pixie!

                            Anybody here?

                            Just checking in, everybody must be busy. We did Burn it up again. I am getting better at it. I'm actually doing the moves instead of just staggering thru it like at first. The scales moved a tiny bit today, so that was a thrill.

                            Today finishes up week 4 for me. I'm so excited that I've stuck with it consistently for this long. 2 more weeks to go!

                              hi caryl! i'm here! i am feeling totally discouraged this week. last week i was 1 pound from goal and the last few days ive been up to 158/159.......GGGRRR!!!! i did the workout sat, mon, and now again today......it is hard work and i am sticking with it and have not seen any additional results in about a week, including measurements.....but i am still here. my son said maybe i should add the half hour of elliptical to it also....i am darn lucky to get that hour to workout. and additional half hour would just be impossible....gotta break this stall. what do you think?

                                I'm sorry nothing's cooperating for you ((hug)). Sometimes it does help to switch out your exercise. Have you done all six weeks worth of SI6? If you have, maybe it would help to do just the ab workout (if that's where you want inches off) and do either the elliptical or swim or something you enjoy doing. I'm not an expert, but I have read that switching what you do can jumpstart results. I understand the time issues. Between working, swimming and burn it up, I'm getting behind on housework (not that that's ever been a top priority for me).

                                I gained a couple of pounds while doing slim in six, but I've got muscle tone that I haven't had in 20 years. Everything fits better, so take some comfort from that. Also, it does take your body a little time to rearrange things sometimes. You've lost quite a bit in the last month, so you could just be hitting a little resistance. Drink your water and relax. I know it's only 25 days to the wedding, but you've accomplished so much! Try to focus on that, and not those possessed scales.

                                I retain water in hot weather, so drink your water and put your feet up when you can.

                                I hope something helps, and I'll send up some prayers for you, too.
