The rep thing has changed since I was in the back room so I can't really answer any questions on it. All I remember was it is a 'calculated' value and there wasn't any clear explanation from the software vendor on how the number was derived.

Just enjoy it! So the comments aren't anonymous anymore. Is that a bad thing? And I can understand why you can't keep rep'ing the same person over and over. Sure, some folks deserve frequent reps, but that feature just makes reps more valuable. (IMO, of course)

That's so true Perry - thanks for that!

Just out of curiosity... I'm guessing mods can allocate whatever number of points, right? (I noticed my points total going up 30 and a couple of days later another mod giving 24)
Also, do the points vary between different members? (I've noticed the total for each person sometimes vary: I've been given 1, 2, 5, even 15 points)
Like I said, I was just curious

        Re: reputation

        Hey sweetcheeks!

Mods do not determine the amount of value in the rep. The administrators change the default settings in vbulletin to determine that. As a moderator, my rep does carry more weight than another member's. It's one of the glamorous perks of the job. That and fuzzy slippers.

That's cool Perry, IMO at least, for whatever that is worth. Contrary to my usual response to things, I really don't care one way or the other. I think its kind of a silly childish feature anyway.

Lets just leave it as a fun thing, I think that is all it was intened for anyway!
I think the problem stems from at least one other board that alot of members here belong to as well, where they put alot of stock in the rep thing, and actually use it like a sort of contest/competition thing. IMO it just dosen't really fit the atmosphere here, and that is neither good nor bad, just the way it is!

rep power and reputation points are two different things according to the explanation given back when the board was first experimenting with the rep power. there is a formula very complecated that takes in time as a memeber and number of posts and reputation points were in it out of it back in it who knows now that figured it. I'm sure you remember when the board switched to vbullet Admins used to get 20 points 10 boxes automatically and mods got 10 and 5 boxes just cause they had that title but that was changed so everybody started from scratch.

Does it really make it more valuble that a member has to go out and give out X number of reps to tell some one wow that was another great post and deservs rep points. alas i can't rep you again cause i haven't fulfilled my quota of other worthy posts yets so let me go pass out reps to the next x topics I read so i can come back and rep you causae you deserve points for that.

I'll just use Cleo as an example of why i think rep points and the frequent rule think is wrong. Cleo has made many posts that were thought of so highly by the members and ADBBstaff that they were stickied, but in order to rep her for all of them you'd have to just pass out many many reps wheather the topic and person deserved it or not.

ReputationYour reputation on this post is Positive.
Comments on this Postfor perfect attendance in Amuk class.

I hardly think perfect attendance in running amuck deserves any rep points and this since it was the acutal post that now has the positive rep
                roflmao good one MOG
some one who will remain nameless thought of all the posts I've made or were made that day by others that deserved rep points. ( yep i went and looked so i could make this point)
My rep points jumped but not for anything that should have received reputation points so now I have a positive reputation for running amuk and my numbers are artificially high.

LOL, 2big your fighting a losing battle. I like giving rep point to folks who have anniversarys and so I just click on their last post and give it from there. Thats the only way I can do it. Most of these folks have been with us for over a year, some two years, and I can tell you most have maybe one or two rep points. Can you imagine.

                        I deagree Perry

complaining about the negative points part of them them got that part turned off on ADBB

complaining about them being annonymous by Brook got them to no longer be annonymous.

seems voicing concerns about them gets things changed.

                          Fair enough.

But, even after those changes, you're still complaining about it!

What's so hard about just ignoring them? You don't like them, don't read them and don't give them out, easy peasy IMO! Same way you handle posts and or posters you don't like!

but if they were tweaked a bit more to or the code changed to not say add to ___________'s reputation then i would use them.

Besides it seems mine grows every time I discuss them as I now have gotten 2 more green boxes.
