And how do they pay them? By raising the price of the gas! No thanks!

I remember the days when we had people come out and pump our gas. I imagine it was a big pain in the tush for them to come out in all kinds of weather. It sure took them long enough to get out there sometimes! And then if there was one attendant and more than a few cars it took even longer, especially when they had to clean everyone's windshield. What do we have wipers and windshield wiper fluid for? Thanks, but I'll do it myself!

Now I pull into a spot, swipe my card, pump my own gas, and I'm on my way. I can't imagine going back to the old way.

Heidi, you practically remodeled your whole bathroom! What is your problem with pumping gas? It's simple. I have changed my own automobile's oil before. Don't you know, we women can do anything?!

You're absolutely right, they were SERVICE stations!!

And Piasa, I hear what you're saying. It is a pain to have to wait, if there is only one attendent and several cars waiting. And I can understand why an attendent would not like coming out in bad weather. However, since NJ and Oregon are two of those states that do not have self-serve, we have no choice but to wait.

Re: do you pump your own gas?

The beautiful thing is that it doesn't affect our gas prices so heck...let someone else do it. It may take longer but on a day like today with "ice pellets" zooming out of the sky it's worth sitting comfy cozy in my car. However, those stupid "ice pellets" seem to be comfy cozy on the ground so my tushie isn't going anywhere until it's gone. After working at a truck stop for many years the gas attendants (who I didn't work with but knew) never really complained much in bad weather. They bundle up and run to the "dog house" to get warm. They actually didn't mind so much because they usually make good tips on bad days. And no...I've never changed my own oil. I can check the air in my tires though!

Pias part of being a woman who can do anything is being able to set limits on what I want to and will do...and I am not doing this! You know the work I do and there are many people would not touch in a million years..the depth of what I do is sometimes very unappealing even to me...but I go out in cold weather to commute a long distance to work ...I have not missed a day of work in years...I do it with a smile and good service because as I said I can do it and I am good at it...I also am aware that people like you complain that I am not fast enough or did not do things as perfectly as they like...but that is the nature of work in general .....why not save my energy and frustrations to work in my own field ....instead of pretending I want to do someone elses potential work? ..I don't ..sure someone could teach me ..but someone could teach me and do teach me a lot of other things that I want to learn! and after a 16 hour day of taking care of people...I do not have it in me to want to do this ....

if you want to ..go for it...and while you are at it ...my car is pretty empty and I need someone to go fill it now...please?

                    I tip well

Bug you know I have said it before and I will say it again "I love Oregon"

Re: do you pump your own gas?

We don't have too many full service stations anymore, but their are a few, but usually i use my debit card and have to get out and go into the station to pay so that kinda defeats the purpose. I'll go to them odd time if i have cash on me and the weather is crap.

In the summer i was at a self serve station and put my gas cap on my bumper I drove all the way home from my cottage, 220 kms (100 miles?) on winding highway and thru construction, and I never lost it! was there when I pulled in the driveway..I'm still astounded by that. I bought a lottery ticket that day...but of course my luck had run out at that point.

I don't put the gascap down now...i doubt i'd be that lucky again.

Not sure if anyone cracked this one yet:

I'm sure we all know someone special who pumps their own gas . And apparently there are plenty of full-service stations - but you have to find them because they are not legal in most states - just the self service ones .

Sorry - I just couldn't resist the urge anymore....
