What's a Right to Work State mean?

That's what I wanted to know! That's why I looked it up. Apparently it just means that in those states that have the law you cannot be forced to join a union to keep a job. At least that was the jest of what I got from that website I looked at, I posted the link if you're interested.

We accidentally went into the EZ PASS lane on our way home from Jersey. We didn't have an EZ Pass and it wouldn't let us pay with cash. About a week later, I got a lovely picture of my van in the mail with a ticket.

That sucks! We have those camera's here now to catch people who run red lights!

we have those red light cameras too..i've seen them go off at night when ppl run reds and have wondered if they see the flash behind them?

see how much you can learn here? I am humbled by your ablility to google MOG! ...I am tooo lazy I guess .... JK ....it is amazing I had just heard that Oregon was "right to work" and understood what it meant but never took the time to look it up ...but to be honest I will never pretend I am smarter than I am ..I just know that I love to see folks employed and never mind paying for someone else to do what I dont want to do myself ..that is why I worked my way through college (being paid to do what others did not want to do) and found a career and a job I love that pays very well ..it is win win to me if the money moves in a good direction!!! and I dont like to pump gas so I am happy to pay a little bit extra for someone else to do it for me ..but that is just me !!! and to be honest again I can not obesess on the price of gas because I have to buy it to function given the lack of good public transport in my area (and I love utililizing that when I can!) ..in fact Jen when I travel to Canada I park my car and do not move it again ..just walk, catch buses and the light rail where ever I go ...so much nicer to me to pay someone else to drive me around and support the public transport!

fact is I better get my Atkins assss out the door now so I keep my good paying job

LOL-- Good for you Heidi. I pump my own gas--always have since I have learned to drive. Just something you do and don't think much about growing up in rural Maine.

But-- Kudos to you- I think it is great for anyone to get so excited about doing something they would not do. Good for you -- to overcome that-- let's hope you don't have to do it again.

I just love life-- I get excited about the little things too-- 'cause I can.

I've always pumped my own gas, because I'm British lol. They make you do it yourself (but then again, they trust people enough to pump first, pay later...!)

I remember when I first came to the US in 2004, I was sooo confused about what to do that I conveniently got out of all gas pumping for 2 years lol. Made my boyfriend pump it for me because I didnt like the fact that you have to go inside the pay first.

I pumped my gas for the first time in June, when I drove to Miami and had no choice but to do it myself lol.

But even the nozzle confused me! Like, you dont have to hold it all the time..it's weird! You put it in and it pumps itself? I'm so used to having to press the handle on the nozzle to put the gas in...

Who would have thought that pumping gas would be such a drama?

I always pump my own gas. And I would throw a tantrum if anyone ever tried to take away my debit cards!! I love pulling up to the pump, sliding in my card, filling up and pulling away in just a few minutes!

Course it sucks when you get gasoline on your fingers and have no way to wash them!

Stephbob we drove to florida this year and that threw us off as well! My husband kept getting so annoyed...he'd stand there at the pump wondering why the h*ell the gas wouldn't come out! Must be alot of 'gas-and-dash' people perhaps?

Yep Sadie, especially now with the gas prices rising so fast and so high, there are a lot of people who will fill up and drive off w/o paying! We never used to have to pay first around here. You do now, but not if you go to your neighborhood gas station. Around here people still recoginize each other and if you're from the "hood" or stop at the same place often enough, they see you pull up and they activate the pump w/o making you walk inside. I use my debit card most of the time as well, easy peasy. Oh and we do have to hold the handle down to make the gas come out -- Florida is weird.

Another thing they are telling everyone is that if you don't have the kind of gas cap that locks that you should get one. We're having a flash back to the gas crisis I guess, apparently people are stealing gas right out of people's cars like they did back in the 70's!

I laugh watching all the British tourists trying to fill up their cars, but I give in and help them out sometimes. After all, I've been there, I know what it's like. And around here, nobody will come to help you if you look like you're struggling! They just watch you, laughing. Nasty people!

Ya know what, I still don't know lol.
First you have to go inside, pay for the gas, then go back out to the pump, and put the nozzle in, but you play around with the handle and then let it go (you cant hold it while it's filling)

It sounds easy enough, but it's just....different. I often see families huddled around the handle thinking "What on earth am I meant to do with it?" and 99% of them will go in compliaining that it's not working, or drive to another pump to see if that one "works" lol.

The only time I've had to pay before I pumped in the UK was just before the Severn Bridge, and it was 4am, I hadn't slept in 2 days, and by the time the woman instructed me over the tannoy that I had to pay inside first, I was crying lol

Give me Tesco's Express Pump ANY day! Means I can keep my slippers on too (Yes, I'm an old fogie...I drive in my slippers...)

The "not holding it whilst the petrol pumps" sounds confusing enough to me. What happens if you just want to fill your tank up but don't know how much you need to put in, or if you pay for more than will fit in your tank.
