Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

Yummy! I made this tonight and my husband and I loved it. There was one slight problem though. I made it using a 2 1/2 qt ceramic casserole dish. After 55 minutes it wasn't done on the top so I ended up cooking it 20 more minutes and the top still wasn't done (we microwaved the top). I'm thinking it was too thick so I'm wondering what kind of dish you all used. Was it bigger? More shallow? Metal?

I made mine in a metal 8 inch round cake place. I cooked it for 1 hour and 5 minutes and it was perfect!

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

I had my first whooshie! It's hard to say if it was the hamburger pie, the extra vegetables I'm eating, or exercise. All I have to say is another 3 pounds are gone forever! In one week, not on Induction, that's a whooshie for me .

This sounds so silly, but im terrified to eat mince, sausages, or anything like that from our supermarket/butchers, just because im scared they are adding carbs.. Where do you all buy your ingreidents from? im tired of eating bacon lol

Cream Cheese? Can you tell me how we can eat so much of it when it says it has 2 carbs per Tbls? Just wondering.

Making this right now and mmmm it smells good. I didn't use the horse radish because it is a known carcinogen and used garlic salt instead of garlic powder and salt. used ground up garlic clover, and baking it at 375 for 30 mins.

                        Hamburger Pie

                        2lbs of ground beef(lean)
                        1 package of cream cheese
                        2 tsp yellow mustard
                        2 tsp horseraddish
                        garlic powder to taste
                        salt and pepper to taste
                        dehydrated onions to taste

1st combine cream cheese, mustard, and horseraddish, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and dehydrated onions in a mixing bowl. Smooth it all out so when its done it will be a creamy yellow almost like the consistancy of the yolk of deviled eggs. Put aside, and split beef in half. Make a large hamburger patty and put into a round cooking dish(or square if you dont have round). Sprinkle with some salt and pepper and spread cream cheese mixture over the hamburger patty and take the other half of beef and make into another patty. Put on top of the patty with the cream cheese mixture and pinch the sides closed sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake at 325 for 55 min or until well done. Slice like a pie and enjoy!

I always get a whooshie after eating this!

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

SueSue, here are the USDA counts for cream cheese.
                          • 1.0 cup has 6.17g of carbohydrates
                          • 1.0 package, small (3 oz) has 2.26g of carbohydrates
                          • 1.0 cubic inch has 0.43g of carbohydrates
                          • 1.0 oz has 0.75g of carbohydrates
                          • 1.0 tbsp, whipped has 0.27g of carbohydrates
                          • 1.0 tbsp has 0.39g of carbohydrates

What cream cheese are you getting that lists 2 per TBSP? Perhaps it is listing 2 per 1 oz? 1 oz would yield about 2 TBSP or so.

Thank You for the info. about the cream cheese. I buy the WM Brand. I think it says 2 carbs. for 2 TBLS. That is why I have been avoiding it. But now I may go hog wild. LOL not really but I will use it a little more.

Perhaps the horseradish was part of what makes this the wooshie food for others? You mentioned it was a carcinogen, but meat and eggs cooked at a high temperature, tap water, hair dye, microwaved foods, lanolin (i.e. many hand lotions), sunlight, cell phones, artificial sweeteners, and caffeine are other cancer causing items.

Perhaps 2 tsp of horseradish is an acceptable carcinogenic risk for a whoosh. I know that if oatmeal reduces cholesterol and I decide to substitute the oatmeal with chayote, I *might* miss out on the benefit by not following the actual recipe!

By the way, I made this (as instructed) yesterday. I don't weigh in until Saturday, but I'll be your test dummy and let you know if it makes a difference in my weekly average!
