                Hi

Can i ask what is probably a stupid question...is it american style mustard in the recipe? I'm so used to English mustard...just want to make sure...oh yeah and what sort of cream cheese would you use?

Sorry to seem thick but I'm never sure what the UK equivilant of US foods are!

                Thanks

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

Tried this today, it was great!!!! I'll have to see if I get a whooshie, but I had to use creamy horseraddish so I may not lose weight from it.

Not sure about the mustard...but I think the cream cheese you can use is Philadelpha (or a similar kind).

All right! Now I know what a "Whooshie" is!

Going to head out and buy the ingredients for this "pie". I'm desperate for more foods with protein to eat for breakfast and supper. I'll report on the results in the morning.

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

Reporting early on the Hamburger Pie.

There was a lot of grease from the meat swilling around and carried much of the cream cheese mixture with it. I think next time I'll bake the two patties, remove the "juice", then add the mixture to them. OR, after cooking the patties and removing the "juice", just top each one off with half the mixture, bake it a bit more, and then eat them.

It also needed more horseradish. I had added one more teaspoon than the recipe called for and I still wanted more "kick" to it.

As a note, the cream cheese mixture is close to a potato chip dip our mom makes. Much more horseradish as well as worchestershire sauce was added to it. From what I see on the bottle I have, worchestershire sauce isn't Atkins-safe.

In any case, that cream cheese/horseradish mixture would be good on celery!

Now to see if I get the "whoosh" from this meal...

I made this last night at 1st it was a bit strange by the 3rd bite i thought it was okay. I've never been nuts about horseraddish i think that's the thing it you did not like horseraddish you would not like this. I did use the sause as a pork rinds dip it was tasty. I CAN NOT stand mustard i made it without that. It is something I will make again. Don't know if i got a woosh from it won't weigh till tommorw.

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

I may have gotten a nice weight loss from this recipe (1.5#) but I also ate more food which may have been a factor. I may not have been eating enough prior to yesterday.

What may work best is just cooking a hamburger pattie and topping it off with this mixture, then nuking it a bit. It'll be easier to figure out the amount I'm eating, too. Trying to add it to FitDay accurately was a pain. And I'm stuck with leftovers that I'm already getting sick of. One more meal out of it today.

Re: Hamburger Pie - Whooshie food!

Since I am a bit of a cook myself I decided to make this recipe with a southwestern twist. I made my own taco seasoning with Chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and a little onion powder and mixed it into the ground meat. I mixed salsa (with no sugar) with the cream cheese along with some mexican oregano. I used a square baking pan and cooked it for 55 minutes like the original recipe calls for. I served it with a cup of salad with a little cubed avacado and a lime vinegarette dressing that I made. My wife topped hers with a spoon of sour cream that I skipped since I am on induction.

It was outstanding so give it a try if you like southwestern food.
