      • Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Good morning guys! I am almost back on track in ketosis today after much pinapple upside down cake last weekend! The sticks are starting to show light pink again. I'm still going to keep on the induction through the rest of this week and one more, then start adding back in where I was on the rungs before my slip. (Okay, more like jump than a slip!)

Tracking foods, drinking lots of water, ran again yesterday (did intervals on the treadmill to make things a little harder with inclines and speeds up and down), taking my vitamins and no scale (still the hard one, but I kinda don't want to know!) I plan on running outside when I get home this evening with my daughter. She wants me to help her get her motivated to do exercise again. It'll be better for me as well to get outside where it feels harder going up and down the real hills.

I signed up for the 5K yesterday too! It's June 9th, so I'm going to be concentrating on getting ready for that with my running. Works out well for this too! Thankfully it's a pretty flat area we'll be running on so if I can do the hills by our house, I should be okay next month. I'm a little freaked but excited too!

        Have a great day everyone!

OH! One question - dairy. I look forward to getting my cottage cheese back after I start doing OWL again, but is there a good sign I can watch for if it's a problem? It seems like about the same time I added it was the time when I went 4 weeks with only 3 pounds loss after it having gone much quicker before that. Coincidence? I'm not sure how to tell if it's not agreeing with me. I always had some pink on my sticks, but it was always light pink. I didn't know if it was because I wasn't doing induction anymore or if something was affecting it. Thanks!

        Pam

You should be able to feel it in your clothes. At least, that's how I can tell a food doesn't agree with me. If I eat something that's "bad" I'll become bloated, have cramps, retain water, have gas, and basic abdominal/intestinal discomfort. Make sure when you're introducing new foods, you're ONLY introducing one food at a time! That way you can pinpoint the problem. Even if I did weigh everyday, the scale wouldn't be able to tell me if a food was bad for me--I retain water from strength training, from exercise, from all sorts of things, and how would I know if the food caused the water weight?

Listen to your body, and watch to see how your clothes fit. I think it's perfectly acceptable to add new foods, but I would be very leery of going up in carbs on a no-weigh challenge.

So Julie, I have 4 weeks left of the no weigh challenge. You think I should NOT move from induction to the rungs until after its over?

Move on up--I think you should go up to rung one.

I think 90% of people can tolerate rung 1 just fine.

I mean like for myself (since I'm eating a ton of carbs each day), if I were to do a no-weigh challenge, I'd stick with 75g carbs because I know I'm still losing. I'd wait to move up to 80 until after the challenge were done. I should clarify that I mean it's not the best idea to move up HIGHER rungs during a period of not weighing. And since you've done Atkins before, I'm guessing you'll have no problems.

Gotcha thanks!! I will stay in induction the rest of this week and next week, and then move up one and stay there the last 3 weeks of the challenge before moving up again.

trying--good idea! The slower you take the rungs, the better! It gives you a chance to try out every possible food imaginable, and you don't feel rushed. This is very good! It will be much easier to pinpoint "problem" foods if you go at a slower pace.

Check out Linda's site for great veggie recipes! I was so excited to get to RUng 1. Who knew another serving of induction veggies would be so exciting?! One of my favorite Rung 1 meals was spaghetti squash with tomato sauce and mozzarella. YUMMM!! So good!

Kiss -- You know how you can buy those little things to go in the holes of your Crocs? I found a couple of really cute turtle ones today, which made me more sure that's the kind of tatoo I want. I didn't even think about the fact that the shell could be colorful (like the ones I bought) -- that would be really fun.

Kim -- glad you've figured out a plan for at least starting to ease up the rungs. Julie's right about holding off on adding too much more while we're doing no-weigh. My soap-box comments earlier were more about fear of moving up in general.

Pam, congrats on signing up for that 5k! I bet that having that to work toward will really keep you motivated.

One of my favorite veggie side dishes is cauliflower with cheese. Steam a head of cauliflower, and then mix together mayo and mustard to taste (should be a pale yellow). Liberally coat the head of cauliflower (or you can break it up into pieces, if you prefer). Then, top with a thick layer of cheddar cheese, and bake at about 375 until it's light golden brown. SOOO yummy!
