Hi all -- I posted an introduction ("Greetings from California from a 'marathoner'") over in the Introduction forum... I talk a bit about my background and how I came to be able to finish a marathon. I'm in training for another one (The Walt Disney World Marathon on January 11 next year).
I've been on Induction for the past two months, and I've started OWL recently having lost 14 pounds. I'm going to have to up the intake on carbs on those days I do my very long training runs, now that it's only 74 days away from the marathon (for example, this weekend I have to "woggle" [waddle-jog] 10 miles). I don't care if the Atkins Web site says "fat-loading" is better than "carbo-loading," but I need to take electrolyte drinks with carbs so I don't totally bonk out. [Of course I'll still stay away from the traditional no-no foods]
I'm sooooo happy to see this thread! It really cheers me up that everyone is trying to stick with it. It takes at least three weeks to develop a habit, and community support is all the better to help in exercise efforts!
If you are interested in keeping track of your mileage, I strongly recommend Running-Log.com. It has wonderful features -- and you can see at a glance how well you've done in a month. They have a setting so you can make your log public, so you can share your progress with friends, too.
I am NOT NOT NOT a fast "runner" at all -- I espouse the philosophy of John "The Penguin" Bingham from Runner's World magazine, who writes a column for and about people who become "adult onself athletes." Heck, there are WALKERS who can speedwalk faster than I can jog! It's just one foot in front of the other, one step at a time.
If you have any questions about jogging or exercise, though (I also go to Spinning classes and lift weights), I'll be happy to help!!

. In middle and high school I played football and stayed in decent shape. I was always a good runner then, though I never really did it outside of the field. When I hit college I became sedintary and ballooned up a good 25 pounds or so during my beer-binge days. So when I left college at 21, I neededa change. I joined the Army. And there's 3 things the army loves to make you do... run, situps, and pushups. After I very quickly shed my weight, I had my 2 minute mile down to about 13:30. Not bad at all. We were running maybe 3-4 days a week, maybe 3 miles when we ran.
