  • Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

Lets rock OHR!!!! I don't want to miss too much time since I ran less than I wanted to over the last week. The first three weeks are just 30 minute runs so... Tomorrow morning I am on I'm so excited and since I'm dropping down to three days a week I'm going to do my runs on my weight training days since P90 Sweat right after is a killer and I am about to move up to the next level on that as well. Weights make me sweat way more than cardio but I am a lot less tired on those days.

Mitzi, I used to watch a youtube video occasionally but never would have imagined making my own until Low Carb. I'm also finding the youtube community is great for support and it's neat to see people. It makes them see more real somehow. I have a ton of ideas for more videos but I have to learn to edit first.

liv, I don't know why I wanted to document it like that but it seemed fitting. I love to run but getting started is always the scariest part since I have asthma. As a teen I wanted to run track really bad but I was too afraid to even try to run at all. I would walk the track during PE and just stare at the 6 minute milers and wish. But with one another's support, we did it! Tons of people start the C25K and never finish.

LOL... I know, I'm spoiled. I just wish it was closer to my house! It costs me $5.00 in gas every single time I go there.

I treat myself at least once a week.

My next run is on Sunday, and it's closed on Sundays. So, I'll be pounding the pavement then.

            OHR D1W1

The first three weeks are 30 minute runs. I'm sure the theory is to build strength in the joints and tendons but dang it was hard to hold back. I did though. Ran with my camel pack instead of my water bottle and had a lot less shoulder pain. My shoulder hurts a lot from typing while looking sideways and down at work so that was a huge deal. It was sweaty on my back though and I didn't squeeze the air out of the bladder so I had to suck the water out. Next time I will fill it correctly and see how it works. I ran a different route and I'm finding that is key to avoiding boredom. Today was also the first day I ran without some sort of noise. Just me, the quiet and a watch. It was perfect.

I did it. Fun to start a new program. I hope I like OHR as much as I liked C25K. Loved the run - especially the last part of it. It seem to only get really going after 20 minutes or so. It will be interesting to see if the speed improves a bit after having done this distance for the next few weeks. I love how good it feels afterwards too.

A bit cool today again. I warmed up a bit inside (knee lifts) before heading out. Really wanted to run right away or I would freeze.

I am a bit annoyed with my socks. I think I will look into investing in a pair of running socks. I found a pair of Nike trainers that I love. They are the tight ones and very comfy (although not all that flattering )

Congratulations Mitzi on your run. That first 25 minutes was sure a bit of a victory for me. First time I really felt like - I can run.

Quo. I run without water but I loved that bottle of yours on the utube. Pretty cool. I actually like doing the same path. It is like a friend. I am starting to know every inch of it. The times I have run different places it has just not felt right.

I just got new shoes!!!! The guy had me try on a bunch of shoes and I ended up with the Adidas Adistar Cushion 6. I think they are just perfect, of course I have to run in them to know for sure. Then on my way out of the store I saw something I had to have. A little nike running skort. It looked so cute and cool and still like I would feel covered. I picked out the large and got tried it on when I got home. I'll have to get a medium in a month or two tops! The waist was perfect maybe even a little loose but the thighs told me the medium wouldn't have been comfortable yet. I felt much better covered than when I tried running shorts so now I don't have to roast!

Congratulations. New shoes how exciting. So do you have a highish arch then? I think mine is more on the flat side.

I sure like the nike running pants that I have so if the shorts are anything like them, you'll enjoy them.

I have a nice arch, not too high or too flag. My problem is that I am a pigeon toed underpronator (my feet roll to the outside) and most shoes right now have stability cr*p in the wrong spots that end up injuring my ankles and knees. We tried one shoe with light arch support and I couldn't take them off fast enough. They actually hurt when I simulated a run.

Here is the skirt I bought, of course I paid 60 bucks for the thing and now that I am not blinding my the pretties in the store I see them much cheaper. When I tried it on, it felt very light but not ... nonexistent like most running shorts. Up till now, I've been running in heavy winter running pants, or yoga pants which are just hot. Which pants to you have? I would definably invest in running socks. They really work with your shoes and help so much. Most people overlook them or just go for inexpensive but test of a bunch of different types. My toes rub and get super hot so I use injinji. They have toes and a lot of longer distance runners like them because thy don't get blisters. I also love the socks with cushioning in the ball of my foot and were certain foot bones are. I wish injinji made a toe sock with more strategic cushioning *sighs* Cool max is mandatory of course. Check out KillerSocks.com. Plus, I like to buy running or work out gifts for myself when I reach certain goals and testing out new socks is much cheaper than all the other stuff *ducks*

I love your C25K picture; Can I steal it!!!!!

Mitzi, what do you wear to run?

I loved the sock web page. Cool. Not sure if I would like toe socks but they looked nice. I sometimes check out Runner's World.Com : Running, Racing, Training and More. for reviews and ideas for things.

Do you guys use Body Glide? I saw it discussed in one of the threads here.

My pants are dri-FIT from Nike (they are tight fitting ones) Feels a bit like running without anything. (There is a thought )
I have a pair of LuluLemon shorts for warmer days. (lululemon athletica | yoga-inspired athletic apparel & yoga clothing is a Canadian company - they make great yoga stuff)

I just ran in the new shoes and skirt. Liv, you're right. Dry-fit is an awesome material though they would be better with a zip pocket instead of an origami pocket. I've never used bodyglide since I've been using pants. The shorts seem long enough that I don't think it will be a problem until I am doing super long runs. I like the lululemon site! They have some super cute running skirts *looks all bouncy* Maybe when I am all skinny and my thighs look better I'll be able where shorts without freaking out

One more down. We had some rain this weekend so the ground was nice and soft. Felt good to run on. It feels like I am running faster but I am not sure. I enjoyed it though. Beautiful morning.

                            Hi, Liv and Quo!

Quo, I am SO EXCITED that you were able to get some new shoes! They will provided some kick-a$$ motivation for you! I just can't believe what a difference mine have made. Best money I ever spent!

It's run reading about your workout clothes. I run in biker's shorts and a tank top over my sport bra. I'll take a pic and post it when I can persuade Barry (DH) to do it. I'm still wearing my gear from this morning's run, so maybe if I ask real nice... I get all of my workout clothes from Walmart (best value for what I can afford right now). At least since it's cheap, I have 4 pairs of bike shorts, lots of tanks, and 3 good sport bras. I'm in business.

OK, today was D1, W7, C25K for me. I ran at 7:30 this morning in my neighborhood. Up until now I have been training by time rather than distance because it was easier to keep up with the intervals that way when running in my neighborhood (and that's mostly were I run). Since I only have 1 interval to keep up with now, and this week's interval calls for one 25 minute session or 2.5 miles, I measured out a 2.5 mile run on www.mapmyrun.com and just set my timer to see how long it would take me to run the full 2.5 miles. I finished in 28 minutes, 45 seconds. I'm no speed demon, but I have always made a very conscious effort to maintain good form while I run. Some of the joggers that I see out there have their body slanted at a angle... they're leaning forward a lot. I've tried to maintain the form that is described in Switzer's program.

Oh, Liv! I meant to tell you that I enjoyed seeing your pic on your blog. I love pics.

                            Have a great Sunday!

Yeah that was some $$ motivation I didn't look at the prices when I was trying on shoes and ended up picking a 120 dollar pair So now I have to use them considering how broke I am.

I am using runningahead which is similar to mapmyrun and my 30 minute runs are only 2.5 miles. You are way faster than me!

I lean from my ankles as described in chi-running but I see a lot of joggers flopped forward from the waist. Core muscles are so important and keeping them engaged is the hardest part for me.
