    Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

I like this plan because it looks like the least likely to cause injury. I am taking the 10% rule and using his light and recovery weeks to create my own plan through since I am already running 4 days a week. I've also been looking at the holloway 10k plan.

Okay, enough staring at the rain; time to run since it looks like it's not getting better.

That looks like a nice and slow way to double your distance. I think I would have to do things in minutes rather than in distance. I have no idea about distance. And a car would not be able to go where I like to run. That would mean start by adding 3 minutes to the 30 minute run that we end with on week three.

Hope your splish splash run went well. When I was in Norway I ran in sort of sleety weather. Have not have to do it since.

I was lucky. It stopped and only started to sprinkle toward the end of the run. I was afraid I would get out the door and then it would decide to rain since it smelled like it and rained quite a bit this morning.

25 minutes of slow methodical jogging. Can't say I enjoyed it much but the other day I was running and a deer was on the center medium and ran with me for a few yards before pulling ahead and crossing the street into the park. Then it stopped and stared at me for a few seconds before disapearing. I do wonder what the deer was thinking lol

I made it through week 7!!!! I was a little worried since I added the power 90 and I'll admit the runs are harder now but it feels great and my legs are already stronger from the power 90 so no more shin ouchies!!!! I sat down and figured out my runs through summer using the 10% rule and one recovery week a month so I should be ready to start the marathon training program september 1st... if I am still alive by then that is

Week 8 is a little scary since the last couple minutes of todays run was so hard but I know I can do it. Oh and I found out how to prevent my shoes from sliding around and pulling my socks down...

Those extra lace holes, at the very tops almost to the sides of my ankles, weren't just for decoration. Who woulda thunk it

Great Quo. So is that your goal? To be able to run a marathon one day? It sounds like an excellent plan.

I was thinking about what my goals with further running was. I wanted to be able to run because I thought it was a form of exercise that was easy (just put on shoes) and that I would enjoy doing. That part seems to working out great. I think I would like some more length (running one hour would be perfect) and speed.
            Is your schedule sharable ?

I ran my last week 7 as well. I ended up running more like 30 minutes than 25. I thought I'd rather run the last bit home than walk. Like last time I tried to increase the speed some in the second part. It was a chilly and windy day but not bad for running. (... well wogging)

I've always wanted to be able to run a marathon but I don't know if I'll ever get there. That said, I am going to give it my best shot. I would like to run the Napa Marathon before I leave the Bay Area in '09

I've been running 4 days a week so my plan is based on that. But I followed two rules in calculating my plan. I added 10% mileage each week and every 4th week went down in mileage for a recovery week. That said, pod intervals is doing an interval program for 10k. I saw it in my itunes when I was uploading phedippidations.

                Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

Sorry I've been so scarce! Been working lots of hours, but tomorrow will be the last 10 hour day - woot!

Since I was only able to run on Monday and Tuesday of last week, I am going to repeat Week 4 this week. So this morning, I completed Day 1, Week 4, C25K.

                Specifically:

                Brisk 5 minute warmup walk
                Jogged 3 minutes
                Walked 90 seconds
                Jogged 5 minutes
                Walked 2.5 minutes
                Jogged 3 minutes
                Walked 90 seconds
                Jogged 5 minutes
                Walked 5 minutes
                Jogged 90 seconds
                Walked 90 seconds

(Modified it a little bit from the website... I wasn't home yet, after finishing what the site called for, so I added some walk time and another 90 second jog interval at the end)

Sounds great Mitzie. I always have a cool down walk at the end of my runs or I end up stiff and sore. Usually about 3-5 minutes and then a quick stretch. I don't stretch before though since it makes me sore to stretch when I'm cold. What are your goals for finishing the C25K?

Quo, when a friend of mine and I did an exercise DVD trade a couple of weeks ago, I got the Slim in 6 set in the deal. It has a segment called "Slim N Limber" that is a 14 minute stretch/cool down, and I have been doing that after each run. I LOVE it! I don't ever stretch before, either. The brisk 5 minute warmup walk has been good enough so far.

Goals for finishing C25K - LOL... well, since I can't seem to go very many weeks without some kind of interruption to my flow, I haven't put a specific timeline on when I will get finished with it. I'm not planning on entering any races... I just wanted to be able to run around my neighborhood. I am amazed at how well things are going. I mean, it's not like I'm running any great distances or anything... but, I NEVER in a million years ever thought that I would come as far as I have. I'm so glad that I like it.

Ran this morning. A little bit pressed for time so I did not warm up walk. I just ran really slow for the first ten minutes and then added a bit more speed. To my surprise that worked very well. Ran probably 35 minutes. I think I am ready add a bit to my usual stretch of running. Make the path longer somehow. I am ready to add a few more minutes. Perhaps the last run this week.

Nice to see you back Mitz. I know what you mean. To think that it is possible to learn how to run is pretty amazing to me.

I do a few stretches after running.

I'm in the same boat liv. I feel like I could run much longer and it's hard to hold back but I know it is necessary because muscles and lungs get used to running faster than bones and ligaments. But my goodness, it is taking all my self restraint!

I did something a little different this morning after my run that had amazing results. Usually after running I do some stretching but I am often a little sore for several hours, especially since I do P90 right before. This morning I stretched in the hot shower and aimed the head for which ever muscle I was stretching (pointed it at the back of my legs for calf stretches etc). It doesn't feel like a exercised at ALL!!!

So are you saying it would be better for me to wait? I could always add some other exercise when I come home if I feel like I have more energy.

I think it is better. The pounding from running builds bone mass but if you rush it you can get stress fractures and stuff. That's why they say not to add more than 10% a week.
